Logical Recovery
Best for: Deletions, formatting, corruption
Software-based recovery for drives that are physically healthy but have logical damage. We scan for deleted files, rebuild file systems and extract data without opening the drive.

Before Anything Else
More data dies in the panic after the failure than in the failure itself. Five rules, in order of how often ignoring them costs people their files.
Stop using the device now
Every minute a failing drive keeps running, the operating system writes logs, updates and temp files over the space your deleted data occupies. Idle is safe. In use is not.
Never install recovery software onto the affected disk
The installer itself can overwrite the exact sectors holding your files. If you try software at all, install it on a different drive and scan the patient read-only.
Clicking means power off, immediately
A clicking or buzzing drive has heads hunting across platters they may already be touching. Each additional power-on grinds away recoverable surface. Unplug it and leave it unplugged.
Do not run chkdsk or fsck on failing media
Repair utilities fix file systems by writing to them. On damaged media they routinely finish the destruction the failure started. Diagnosis first, repairs never.
Do not open the drive
Platters tolerate no dust and no fingerprints. A drive opened outside a controlled environment turns a routine head swap into an unrecoverable surface. Curiosity is expensive here.
What to do instead
Power down, note what happened and what the data is worth and talk to a lab before acting. The free diagnosis exists exactly so the first professional opinion costs nothing.
Straight Talk
SSDs changed the recovery rules and marketing has not caught up. Here is where deleted data actually stands on flash storage.

| Files deleted on an internal SSD | The TRIM command tells the drive to erase freed cells within minutes and TRIMmed data is gone at the physics level. No lab recovers it and anyone promising otherwise deserves suspicion. |

Array First Aid
A degraded array is one wrong command away from unrecoverable. Each of these rules exists because somebody learned it the hard way.
Never rebuild onto a degraded array
A rebuild writes to every disk. Started on the wrong member or with a second disk failing mid-rebuild, it converts a recoverable array into scrap. Rebuilds come after imaging, not before.
Label the disk order before pulling anything
Parity math depends on member order. Photograph the bays, mark each disk and never let them travel loose in one box. Reconstructing an unknown order is possible but you pay for the hours.
One failure means backup time, not luck-pushing time
RAID 5 with one dead disk has zero redundancy left. Running production on it gambles everything on the oldest surviving drives. Image first, replace second.
Every disk gets imaged, every recovery runs on copies
Our RAID work reconstructs the array virtually from per-disk images, so the original members are never written to. Wrong guesses cost nothing and the right answer is provable.
Keep Your Money
Labs earn their fees on hardware failure and complexity. Plenty of data loss is neither.
Deleted files on a healthy HDD
A drive that works fine minus some files is the textbook software case. Scan read-only from another disk and recover to a third. Most people succeed on the first try.
A confused partition table
Disk shows as RAW or unallocated but sounds healthy? Partition repair tools rebuild the map without touching the data. Low risk if you image the disk first.
The backup you forgot exists
Cloud sync trash folders, OneDrive and Google Drive version history and old Time Machine disks quietly hold more rescues than any lab. Check them before shipping anything.
Ship it to a lab when the drive makes noises, is not detected, took physical damage or belongs to an array. Those are the cases where software attempts make things worse.
