BUSY Data Recovery Toolkit by Univik for Windows

BUSY Data Recovery Software Get vouchers, ledgers and masters out of a damaged .bds company folder

Univik BUSY Data Recovery Toolkit includes BUSY data recovery software for Windows. It opens a damaged .bds company folder from BUSY Accounting Software and works around torn pages and lost layouts. It lists what it got back with a trust label on each item. BUSY is not needed on the PC.

Damaged FilesTrust LabelsRuns OfflineBUSY Not Needed

*Opening and recovering are free. The free build saves at most 10 items per section, and a licence removes that cap. A 30-day money-back guarantee covers purchases. The Personal licence is for 2 PCs.

  • Torn Pages: Zeroed, torn and duplicated pages are worked around. Rows that survive are kept.
  • Honest Labels: Each item says Healthy, Repaired, Inferred or Borrowed, with a confidence.
  • Copy Stays Safe: Repairs happen on a working copy in memory and your folder is never written to.

 Key Features

What Univik BUSY Data Recovery Software Does Six recovery jobs for a company folder that no longer opens cleanly

Torn, Zeroed and Foreign Pages

A page that was wiped, half overwritten, copied in from another file or repeated is spotted from the file's own pattern. Rows that survive on it are kept and the rest is marked.

Lost Table Layouts Rebuilt

When a year file loses the page that describes a table, the software borrows the layout from a sibling year file. A built-in list covers some tables when no sibling exists.

Bad Copies Put Back in Shape

Bytes added or lost in the middle of a file and files changed by a text-mode transfer are re-aligned in a working copy. A cut file still gives up the rows on its partial last page.

Lost Vouchers, Lines and Names

A voucher without its header is rebuilt from its own lines, the tax summary and the index pages. A lost master name comes back from the second name index.

Checked Against the Daily Ledger

Debit must equal credit in a voucher and its day must match the ledger. A flipped amount or account is fixed only when the ledger agrees and is labelled when it is.

A Label and Note on Every Item

The voucher window has a Recovery box and a Line source column. The Excel and CSV exports add a Recovery notes column so a reviewer sees what was worked out.

 The Core Problem

Why Not Fix a Damaged BUSY Company in BUSY Itself?

Because the vendor's answer to lost data is a backup, and many damaged companies have no good one. Two things make the search harder.

Trap 1: No Backup Means No Way Back

The vendor's data lost FAQs say deleted data can be retrieved only when a backup sits on a drive, a cloud folder or an email. They also say entries made after the backup are typed in again by hand.

Trap 2: A Big Percentage With No Method

When we checked on 11 October 2026, a paid BUSY recovery service quoted a 99.4 percent success rate and showed no test behind it. A rate means little until you know what was damaged and how it was counted.

The Way Out: Recover From the Damaged Copy Itself

Univik BUSY Data Recovery Software reads what the damaged .bds files still hold and says how sure it is of each item. Our view: restore a good backup first, then use this software for the gap between the backup and the crash. If the only copy is the damaged one, start here.

Company missing from BUSY's list and not truly damaged? Check the data path first, as the company not showing guide explains.

 Damage Types

What Damage Can BUSY Data Recovery Software Work Around? Symptom, likely cause and what the software does about it

What you seeWhat may have happenedWhat the software does
A whole year shows empty or will not loadThat year file lost the page that describes its tablesBorrows the layout from a sibling year file and reads the rows again
Vouchers appear without lines or amountsPages that held the lines were zeroed or overwrittenRebuilds lost lines from the index copy, the tax summary and the daily ledger
The file stopped working after a pen drive or FTP copyA text-mode transfer added or removed line-end bytesDetects the shift and puts the bytes back in a working copy
The file is smaller than its sibling yearsThe copy was cut shortReads the rows on the partial last page. Rows past the cut stay gone
Day totals do not match the ledgerA date, amount or account was flippedFinds the voucher that breaks debit equals credit and corrects it only when the ledger agrees
Account or item names look blankThe master record was lostRestores the name from the second name index and the monthly totals from the folio table

Causes are the usual suspects and not a diagnosis. Without the file we cannot tell which one hit yours.

 Three Steps

How to Recover Data From a Damaged BUSY Company Folder

Copy the folder, let the software work on the copy and read the labels before you trust a number.

1

Copy the Whole Company Folder

Take a copy of your company folder, whichever company code it carries. Place the copy on the PC's own disk. Keep db.bds and every year file beside it, for example db12022.bds. Leave the original where it is.

2

Open the Copy and Let It Recover

Open the copy in the software. It finds the damage, repairs a working copy in memory and loads what it got back. Your folder is never written to.

3

Check the Labels and Save

Review each item with its label and confidence, then save the result as an Excel, CSV, JSON or PDF file, which needs a licence. The Excel file gets a Recovery notes sheet.

 Our Test

How Well Does BUSY Data Recovery Software Work? Our own numbers, with what they do not prove

Internal test

We built a test engine that damages healthy BUSY company data on purpose: 56 kinds of damage in 92 scenarios, at low, medium or high strength. The base data holds 3 companies and 6,411 vouchers that all balance. The software then had to get the rows back.

On average it recovered 95.0 percent of the rows. Reading the surviving bytes as well as possible gives 96.3 percent, so the gap is small. Before our latest fixes the average was 82.2 percent. It did not crash or hang in any scenario.

The catch: 11 rows were shown as healthy and were wrong. That is why every item carries a label. The scenarios are ours, on one set of data, so treat the figures as a guide and not as a promise for your file.

 Limits

What BUSY Data Recovery Software Cannot Do Read these before you buy

Gone

Missing Bytes Stay Missing

A file cut at 60 percent keeps about 60 percent of its rows. Nothing can restore what the disk no longer holds.

Zero lines

Free Lines Leave No Trace

A lost item line with a value of zero changes no total, so the software cannot prove it was ever there.

Output

No BUSY Company Is Written

Results come out as Excel, CSV, JSON and PDF. They are for review and re-entry and cannot be loaded back into BUSY.

Scope

Tested on BUSY 21 Data Only

We tested .bds folders and older .mdb files. A company kept in SQL Server was not tested and no other release was checked.

Memory matters too. A damaged file peaks at four to five times its size while it is recovered, so a 500 MB file needs about 2 GB free. If the PC runs short, the result says so at the top of the warnings and does not drop records quietly.

 Who It Is For

Who Needs BUSY Data Recovery Software?

Accountants With a Broken Client Copy

The copy on the client's pen drive will not open and no newer backup exists. Recover what the files hold and hand the client Excel sheets with the doubtful rows marked.

Owners After a Crash or Power Cut

Restore the last backup, then recover from the damaged file to see which entries were made since. That saves re-typing a week of vouchers from memory.

Firms Taking Over Old Books

Only the data folder of a closed business remains and one year file is damaged. Read the other years as they are and recover the broken one beside them.

 Questions

BUSY Data Recovery Questions

Univik BUSY Data Recovery Toolkit reads the .bds files and notices which pages are zeroed, torn, foreign or missing. It works on a copy held in memory, keeps the surviving rows and rebuilds the rest from other tables and year files. Each item comes back with a label that says how far to trust it.

Yes. The software reads the files by itself, so the PC needs neither BUSY nor a BUSY licence. Keep a full copy of the company folder on the PC's own disk and open that copy.

No. The software returns your records as Excel, CSV, JSON and PDF files and does not write a company that BUSY loads. If you have a good backup, restore it in BUSY first. Use the recovered sheets to find the entries made after that backup.

Zeroed, torn, foreign and duplicated pages, damaged page headers, lost table layouts, bytes added or lost in the file, a file cut short, a copy changed by a text-mode transfer and flipped dates or amounts. The damage table on this page pairs each one with what you see in BUSY.

Every item is labelled Healthy, Repaired, Inferred or Borrowed with a confidence. The voucher window shows a Recovery box, a Line source column marks lines that were worked out and the Excel export adds a Recovery notes sheet. Check the Inferred rows against your paper records first.

No. Bytes that are physically missing stay missing, so a file cut at 60 percent keeps about 60 percent of its rows. A free item line with a value of zero leaves no trace in any total, so a lost one cannot be found.

Get the folder back first with the Windows Recycle Bin or a file recovery program. Then place a copy on the PC's own disk and open that copy here. The software recovers damaged data inside files and cannot undelete files.

The software learns the table layout from the intact part of a file and from its sibling year files. When a year file loses its layout, a sibling supplies it. A built-in layout list covers some tables when no sibling is there, but a full set of year files gives the best result.

Plan for four to five times the file size while a damaged file is recovered. A 500 MB year file needs about 2 GB of free memory. On a 31 MB year file in our lab, a damaged file opened in 2 to 5 seconds.

We have not tested that. Univik tested .bds company folders and older .mdb files taken from BUSY 21 data. Send a folder from another setup to the Univik support team to find out if it opens.

Restore a good backup first, because it gives BUSY a company it can open. The vendor says lost entries are re-entered by hand after a restore. Use the recovery software for the gap between that backup and the crash, or when no usable backup exists.

Yes for opening and recovering. The free build saves up to 10 items per section. Paid licences begin with Personal at $99 for 2 PCs, then Business at $199 for 10 PCs and Forensics at $299 for 50 PCs. A 30-day money-back guarantee applies.

No. The software works offline and the installer is digitally signed. Your books stay on your PC, which matters when the company belongs to a client.

No. Univik is an independent software maker. The BUSY name belongs to its owner.
