Convert HP Autonomy EAS PST Exports to Any Format

EAS outlived its makers. Somewhere a server still running ZANTAZ-era code holds mail nobody dares delete. This Windows desktop tool reads the PST and EML exports that archive produces (IDOL metadata fields and journal envelopes included) and rewrites them into MBOX, MSG, PDF and 10+ formats with a future.

  • Reads Autonomy EAS full-content PST and EML exports directly, including IDOL metadata fields and eDiscovery case PSTs.
  • Converts to Outlook PST, MBOX, MSG, PDF, HTML and 10+ output formats.
  • IDOL metadata preservation: Autonomy IDOL custom fields carried through as X-headers and PDF document properties.
  • 100% offline: archived mail is processed locally with no upload anywhere at any point.

 What Survives

Everything Your HP Autonomy EAS Archive Contains

Sixteen-year-old mail deserves to arrive intact. Here it does, field for field.

 Capabilities

Built Specifically for HP Autonomy EAS Archive Exports

The tool was built around EAS specifics: ZANTAZ-era quirks, IDOL fields and all.

Export from EAS, not the mailbox Where you export from decides what you get Export the Exchange mailbox EAS shortcut stub → points to the archive EAS shortcut stub → no message body PST full of stubs Export from EAS itself Admin GUI → folders kept intact EAS Discovery → case exports PST with full content

Stub-Aware Conversion

HP Autonomy EAS stubs archived messages in Exchange mailboxes. An export run from EAS itself retrieves full content from the Autonomy content store, while a plain Exchange mailbox export copies only the stubs. This converter tells the two apart cleanly, so a stub is reported as a stub and an archived body comes out whole.

IDOL Metadata Preservation

HP Autonomy EAS uses the IDOL (Intelligent Data Operating Layer) search index to enrich archived messages with custom metadata fields. The converter reads IDOL-derived metadata embedded in the EAS export and carries it through to the output format. IDOL custom fields appear as X-headers in EML output and PDF document properties.

Journal Store Coverage

Autonomy EAS journal archives contain the original journal envelope with BCC recipients and full SMTP routing data. The converter preserves this compliance-critical envelope data in all output formats. Required for banks, law firms and financial institutions under SEC Rule 17a-4 and CFTC recordkeeping obligations.

eDiscovery Export PST Support

HP Autonomy EAS Legal Hold and eDiscovery exports produce PST files per custodian. The converter processes these case-export PSTs preserving custodian identifiers, legal hold tags and case-level metadata in all output formats. Compatible with Relativity, Nuix and other eDiscovery review platforms.

Many Mailboxes, One Run

Load all per-mailbox PST exports from Autonomy EAS at once. Converts the entire organisation in a single pass outputting one file per mailbox. Handles the large enterprise deployments typical of Autonomy EAS customers: banks, law firms, government agencies and large corporates.

No Cloud, No Upload

Once the PST files are exported from Autonomy EAS and copied to local disk, no HP Autonomy server, IDOL server, EAS server or network connection is required. All conversion runs locally. Sensitive archived data never leaves the secure conversion environment.

Header-Level Fidelity

All email headers survive: RFC 5322 standard headers, Autonomy EAS X-headers, IDOL-enriched metadata headers, Exchange transport headers and SPF/DKIM/DMARC results. Critical for maintaining legal admissibility of Autonomy EAS-archived evidence.

Inspect First, Convert After

Walk the mailboxes, folders and messages before converting a thing. Check IDOL metadata, structure and counts, then filter by date range, custodian or subject. Previewing costs nothing against the trial cap.

Repair Broken EAS PSTs

Autonomy EAS PSTs occasionally have structural anomalies from legacy storage tiers that cause Outlook import errors. The converter reads PST content directly without Outlook, bypassing scanpst.exe issues and extracting all recoverable content.

Micro Focus & OpenText Compatibility

HP Autonomy EAS was sold to Micro Focus and subsequently to OpenText. The export format (PST and EML) is consistent across all versions. The converter handles EAS exports from HP, Micro Focus and OpenText-branded Autonomy EAS deployments identically.

Conversion Audit Log

Generates a detailed report listing messages processed per mailbox, IDOL metadata fields preserved, journal envelope summary, eDiscovery case metadata and any conversion errors. Essential documentation for HP Autonomy EAS decommissioning projects.

No Autonomy Infrastructure Required

No HP Autonomy EAS server, IDOL server, Autonomy Content Infrastructure or any Micro Focus / OpenText software needed on the conversion machine. It reads the exported PST and EML directly, so any ordinary Windows PC becomes the conversion machine.

 The Orphaned Archive

Who Owns EAS Now?

Support for EAS moved four times. Your archive never moved with it. That gap is the whole reason this page exists.

The EAS ownership trail Four owners in sixteen years. Your archive stayed put. ZANTAZ creates EAS Autonomy acquires ZANTAZ, 2007 HP acquires Autonomy, 2011 Micro Focus takes the product, 2017 OpenText acquires Micro Focus, 2023 Each handover thinned the expertise. The mail inside the archive is unchanged and still yours to extract.

If finding anyone who still supports your EAS install has become the project itself, skip the trail. Export the mail through the EAS console or Discovery tools and convert it to formats no vendor can orphan.

 Ask Away

EAS Conversion Questions

Everything people ask before finally shutting EAS down.

The PST was exported from the Exchange mailbox instead of from the archive. EAS replaces archived messages in Exchange with shortcut stubs that point to the archive store, so a mailbox-level export copies the stubs. Export from EAS itself instead, through the EAS Admin GUI or EAS Discovery, so the full messages are written from the archive.

HP Autonomy's IDOL (Intelligent Data Operating Layer) enriches archived messages with custom metadata fields during ingestion: entity extraction, classification tags, sentiment indicators and custom fields configured by the organisation. EAS exports embed these IDOL fields in the PST or EML output. Univik HP Autonomy EAS Converter reads and preserves all IDOL-derived custom metadata fields in the converted output. For EML output they appear as X-IDOL headers. For PDF output they appear in document properties. This IDOL metadata is particularly valuable for organisations that used Autonomy's classification capabilities for regulatory hold and retention management.

Yes. Autonomy EAS journal archives contain the original journal envelope with BCC recipients and full SMTP routing data. The converter preserves this envelope in all output formats. For banks and financial institutions under SEC Rule 17a-4, CFTC and MiFID II, this BCC and SMTP data in journal envelopes is a regulatory requirement for email archive productions.

Yes. EAS began at Educom in 2000 as Exchange Archive Solution, was renamed Enterprise Archive Solution under ZANTAZ in 2004, then passed to Autonomy in 2007, HP in 2011 and Capax Discovery in 2014, with Zantaz Data Resources maintaining it today. The PST and EML export format stayed consistent through every owner, so the converter reads exports from all of them.

No. Once PST or EML files are on local disk, no HP Autonomy EAS server, IDOL server, Autonomy Content Infrastructure or any Micro Focus / OpenText software is required. Conversion runs completely offline. This is essential for organisations where the Autonomy infrastructure has been fully decommissioned or is being retired as part of the migration project.

Yes. Convert per-mailbox EAS PSTs to MBOX. MBOX output imports into Google Workspace using Google's migration tools or BitTitan. IDOL metadata is preserved in MBOX X-headers. Journal envelope BCC data is preserved for compliance continuity in the destination platform.

Yes. EAS PSTs written from older Autonomy storage tiers can carry structural quirks that scanpst.exe chokes on. Because the converter parses the PST itself instead of asking Outlook, those quirks stop mattering: intact items convert and anything unreadable is flagged in the conversion report.

Any Windows from 7 to 11 runs it. Plan on 4 GB of RAM or 8 GB for big enterprise batches, about 50 MB of disk for the install plus space for output and .NET Framework 4.8 or higher, which updated Windows 10 and 11 already include.

Free trial converts the first 25 messages per archive. All features fully functional: IDOL metadata reading, journal envelope handling, eDiscovery case metadata, all 10+ output formats and preview. No time limit.

Use the route that fits the job. The EAS Admin GUI exports mailboxes to PST and keeps the original folder structure. EAS Discovery is the right path for e-discovery cases and legal hold exports. Storage Manager can also run copy-to-PST tasks, but its output is grouped into date folders rather than the mailbox folders. Copy the resulting PST or EML files to local disk and load them into the converter.

The HP Autonomy era of the product ended long ago: HP announced end of support for EAS on August 30, 2015 and sold the product to Capax Discovery in 2014, with Zantaz Data Resources maintaining it today. Most HP Autonomy EAS deployments still in the wild are legacy systems held for their archived mail, which is exactly why converting the exports to open formats matters.

EAS, the Enterprise Archive Solution, is an email archiving platform born at ZANTAZ and carried through four owners: Autonomy bought ZANTAZ in 2007, HP bought Autonomy in 2011, the product moved to Micro Focus in 2017 and OpenText took over Micro Focus in 2023. Development ended along the way, yet EAS archives full of stubbed Exchange mail still run in production. Converting their exports to open formats is how that mail outlives the platform.

Ask what you actually need first. If the goal is moving a living archive with tens of thousands of mailboxes into a new platform under supervision, a legacy archive migration project earns its price. If the goal is getting readable mail out of an EAS system on its way to shutdown and PST or EML exports are within reach, this converter finishes the job for the cost of a license.
