BUSY has no export to Tally.
Its help says reports cannot be uploaded to other software directly, and its own Tally tool only brings data in. Your routes are opening balances alone, an Excel file loaded with TallyPrime's Excel import, a paid transfer service or fresh entry. Try any route in a blank test company first.
A business is changing software, or its accountant works in TallyPrime. Neither program offers a button for this trip. The sections below show what each side supports, which routes are real and how to check the result.
Who Needs to Move BUSY Data to TallyPrime?
Choose the job that fits you.
The business is leaving and wants its books in TallyPrime.
Compare the routes →Someone else keeps the books in Tally and needs your figures.
See the Excel route →Only the company folder is with you and the figures must go into a file.
See what the converter does →Moving between accounting programs is rarely one click. Each one stores data in its own shape. The honest question is how much of the old history you need in the new place. This guide lays out the real routes, what each costs in effort and where each one breaks.
What Does BUSY Itself Offer for Moving Data to Another Program?
Less than people expect. The vendor's help on other software says BUSY only supports importing data from Tally, using the Tally2BUSY utility. It also says you cannot upload reports from BUSY to other software directly. What remains is an export of reports to CSV or Excel, which you import elsewhere if the other program allows it.
| BUSY feature | Direction | Useful for a Tally move? |
|---|---|---|
| Alt+E on a report | Out to Excel, one report at a time | Yes, but slow for a full year |
| XML export under Data Export Import | BUSY to BUSY | No |
| Tally2BUSY utility | Tally to BUSY | No, it runs the other way |
| Import from Excel | Excel into BUSY | No |
The vendor's XML export answer and its Tally2BUSY steps describe the first and third lines. Both are for moving into BUSY or between BUSY installations.
Which Route Fits a BUSY to TallyPrime Move?
Four routes exist. Our view is that the first one is the right answer for more businesses than people admit, because it is the only one that cannot go wrong in the middle.
| Route | What moves | Effort | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening balances only | Ledgers and closing balances as of a date | Low | Old vouchers stay in BUSY |
| Excel or CSV through the Tally import | Masters and vouchers you choose | High | Wrong mapping or missing masters |
| A transfer service | Whatever the service supports | Medium | Your data leaves the office and terms vary |
| Keying it again | Anything | Very high | Typing errors |
On services, a software directory lists a browser-based one named Busy2Tally with a free trial. That listing is unclaimed by the vendor, so confirm prices and terms with the vendor before you rely on it.
How Does the Excel Route Work in TallyPrime?
Tally's help covers Excel import from Release 4.0. Press Alt+O for Import and pick Masters or Transactions. A sample Excel file from Tally already has matching columns. Your own file needs a mapping template. Read Tally's start guide and its steps for any Excel file.
- Decide how much history to moveChoose between opening balances only and full vouchers. Write down the first financial year you need in Tally.
- Back up both systemsTake a backup with All F.Y. selected. Take a Tally backup of the target company before you import anything.
- Export the data to ExcelWrite each financial year to a workbook. Keep the Accounts, Items, Vouchers and Entries sheets for the next step.
- Create the masters in a blank test companyIn TallyPrime, load the groups, ledgers and units first. Tally needs them to exist before vouchers can arrive.
- Map the sheets and importPress Alt+O, choose Import and pick Masters or Transactions. Use a sample Excel file or a mapping template, then read the import summary before you accept it.
- Compare the totalsMatch the trial balance, voucher counts by type and the closing balances of cash, bank and your biggest parties against the old books.
Three limits from Tally's help matter here. The masters or dependent data must already exist in the company. A mapping template asks you to choose the type of master or voucher. Tally's import FAQ says only one worksheet can be imported at a time, and Google Sheets must be downloaded as Excel first.
What Does Univik BUSY Data Converter Do for This Move, and What Does It Not Do?
It prepares the source. Univik BUSY Data Converter takes one financial year from a company folder and lays it out as an Excel workbook, with a sheet each for accounts, items, vouchers, entries, item lines and bill sundries. On the Entries sheet the debit and credit amounts sit in two columns. The Accounts sheet carries GSTIN and the Items sheet carries HSN.
It stops there. No Tally XML comes out of it. It does not import into Tally and it does not create Tally masters for you. Its JSON file is made for analysis tools. You still reshape the sheets to a Tally sample file or a mapping template. That step is the real work, and it is where a careful person pays off.
Univik BUSY Data Converter needs only the company folder and reports how many rows each sheet received.

How to Check the Move Before You Trust It

- Voucher counts by type match for each year
- Closing balances of cash, bank and the biggest parties agree
- GST ledgers and stock quantities agree with the old reports
Fix Common Problems When Moving BUSY Data to Tally
Do this: A ledger or unit is probably missing. Load the masters first, then run the vouchers again and read the exception report.
Do this: The software stores one signed amount, and the exports show it as Dr or Cr. Check one voucher end to end before you import a whole year.
Do this: Tally's help says bill-wise entry must be on in the company and on the party ledger. Switch it on before the import.
