Quick answer: the Excite Mail IMAP server is imap.bluetiehome.com on port 993 with SSL. The SMTP server is smtp.bluetiehome.com on port 587 with SSL. Outgoing authentication is required. Sign in with your full @excite.com address and your Excite password. Note that IMAP and POP work only on a Premium account. Free Excite accounts are webmail only.
What Changed Recently#
Excite mail moved onto BlueTie a while ago. That move drives the details that matter for a client setup.
Latest update
Login moved to login.bluetiehome.com. After 31 August 2021 the old login.excite.com page stopped working. Sign in at login.bluetiehome.com using the part of your address before the at sign.
Earlier change
Client access is a Premium feature. IMAP and POP work only on a Premium subscription. A free Excite account can read mail in the browser but cannot connect Outlook, Apple Mail or a phone app.
Earlier change
The servers carry the BlueTie name. Incoming is imap.bluetiehome.com and outgoing is smtp.bluetiehome.com. Older guides still list imap.excite.com, which is why setups from years back sometimes need updating.
imap.bluetiehome.com and smtp.bluetiehome.com over SSL, using your full address and Excite password.
Before You Begin#
Two things decide whether Excite connects at all. Check them before you touch the server fields.
1. You need a Premium account
Excite own support states that IMAP and POP service is available for Premium subscriptions only. On a free account no client will connect, whatever values you type.
Where: Account type below
2. Use the BlueTie hosts
Excite mail lives on BlueTie, so the servers are imap.bluetiehome.com and smtp.bluetiehome.com, not imap.excite.com. Turn SSL on and tick outgoing authentication.

About Excite Mail Mail#
Excite Mail is the email service of Excite, a long running US web portal. It now runs on BlueTie Home infrastructure.
The detail that catches people is where the mail actually lives. Excite handed its email to BlueTie, so a client connects to imap.bluetiehome.com rather than anything on excite.com. The second detail is the account tier. IMAP and POP are Premium features, so a free Excite address works only in the browser. Get both right and setup is ordinary from there.
| Service Name | Excite Mail Mail |
| Mail Run By | BlueTie Home |
| Login Page | login.bluetiehome.com |
| Email Domains | @excite.com |
| Webmail URL | login.bluetiehome.com |
| Protocols Supported | IMAP, SMTP on Premium |
| Client Access | Premium subscription only |
| Free Accounts | Webmail only, no IMAP or POP |
@excite.com address uses the BlueTie hosts on this page. The username is your full address. A BlueTie address on @bluetiehome.com uses the same servers too, since Excite and BlueTie share the same mail system.
Excite Mail Webmail Login#
Reading your mail in a browser is the quickest way to tell a wrong password apart from the wrong host. The official pages are:

Account Type and Login#
There is no IMAP toggle to find on Excite. What decides client access is your account tier. What you type is your Excite password on the BlueTie hosts.
- Premium account required. Excite own support states IMAP and POP service is for Premium subscriptions only. On a free account, no mail client will connect.
- Username in a client is your full address. Enter the whole
you@excite.com, everything after the at sign included. - Password is your Excite password. The same one you use for webmail. Excite has no separate app credential to set up.
- Forgot it? Reset from the forgot password link on login.bluetiehome.com. The webmail login itself uses only the part before the at sign.
- Then use the BlueTie hosts below. With a Premium account and the right password, the tables below are the whole job.
Excite Mail IMAP Settings#
IMAP is the incoming protocol to use. Excite documents it as the incoming server. It leaves your mail on the BlueTie server, so every device shows the same inbox.
| IMAP Server | imap.bluetiehome.com | |
| Port | 993 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full @excite.com address, the whole thing after the at sign | |
| Password | Your Excite password. A Premium account is required | |
| Authentication | Required |
Excite Mail POP3 Settings#
POP pulls mail down to one machine. Excite support documents IMAP rather than POP, so IMAP is the safer pick. If you do want POP, older Excite setups used the host below. Undecided? The comparison lays it out.
| POP3 Server | pop.bluetiehome.com | |
| Port | 995 | |
| Encryption | SSL required | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Your Excite password. A Premium account is required | |
| Legacy host | The old pop3.excite.com may still resolve. Prefer the BlueTie host |
pop.bluetiehome.com on 995 with SSL for POP. The older pop3.excite.com name predates the BlueTie move and may still resolve, but the BlueTie host is the current one. If you pick POP, tick leave a copy on the server so mail stays in webmail. IMAP on imap.bluetiehome.com keeps every device in sync and is the better default.
Excite Mail SMTP Settings#
SMTP carries outgoing mail. When incoming works but outgoing does not, this is the section to check. The usual cause is the authentication box.
| SMTP Server | smtp.bluetiehome.com | |
| Port | 587 | |
| Encryption | SSL required | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Your Excite password, same as incoming | |
| Authentication | Required. Tick outgoing server requires authentication in your client |
Check Excite Mail IMAP Settings Online#
You don't need to download anything to check Excite Mail IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup: every value is verified, current and copyable straight from your browser. Not sure your address uses Excite Mail servers? Type it below and find out instantly.
Does my email address use these settings?
Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.
Want to verify the account itself before configuring an app? Sign in at login.bluetiehome.com, which confirms your address and password work. Then check that the account is Premium, since IMAP needs it. With both true, any email app connects using the tables above.
Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#
This page covers Excite Mail. For every other address, work email on a company domain included, we run a free online lookup database: imapsettings.com.
imapsettings.com
Complete email settings database, by Univik
Enter any email address and get the incoming and outgoing server settings for that domain in 1 step:
Your address is used only to find the settings for that domain. Nothing is stored or shared.
Set Up Excite Mail in Email Clients#

- Inside Outlook go to File and choose Add Account. In new Outlook the same option lives under Settings and then Accounts.
- Type your
@excite.comaddress, open Advanced options and tick let me set up my account manually. - Choose IMAP, then
imap.bluetiehome.comon993SSL andsmtp.bluetiehome.comon587SSL. - Enter your Excite password when Outlook asks. Remember the account has to be Premium for this to connect.
- Finish and send a test email to yourself to confirm both directions work.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- Open Mail → Settings → Accounts → Add Account.
- Excite will not be listed, so choose Other Mail Account.
- Enter your name, full address and Excite password, then continue.
- If asked for servers, enter the IMAP and SMTP values from the tables above.
- Enable Mail in the checkbox list and finish.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account.
- Tap Other, then Add Mail Account. iOS carries no Excite entry.
- Enter your details with your Excite password, then tap Next.
- Keep IMAP selected and fill the incoming and outgoing servers if iOS asks.
- Tap Save and wait for iOS to verify the account.

imap.bluetiehome.com993 SSL incoming,smtp.bluetiehome.com587 SSL outgoing. - Finish setup and pull down to sync your inbox.
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird → Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name, address and Excite password, then select Continue.
- Allow Thunderbird to test the servers and check it landed on IMAP over the SSL ports.
- If detection fails, choose Configure manually and enter the table values above.
- Select Done. Folders sync on first open.
Excite Mail Webmail Settings#
Those values connect your apps. The settings here shape how the Excite mailbox itself behaves. They live in the browser at login.bluetiehome.com rather than in any client.
Signature
Set from the Excite webmail preferences. A signature added there rides on mail you send from the browser. Each client holds its own signature, so what recipients see depends on where you hit send.
Vacation Auto Reply
Set a start date and an end date and the away message stops itself. BlueTie sends it server side, so it keeps replying while every device is off.
Filters and Folders
A rule made in the browser runs server side, sorting mail before a device ever collects it. A rule set inside Outlook acts only while Outlook is running, so two apps can file one message to different places.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Add a sender or a whole domain to the block list in the same preferences panel. If a message vanishes, open the browser spam folder before anything else, because a client rule cannot recover what the server has already sorted.
POP3 vs IMAP#
| Feature | IMAP | POP3 |
|---|---|---|
| Where mail lives | On the BlueTie server | Downloaded to 1 device |
| Multiple devices | ✅ Everything stays in sync | ❌ Each device sees different mail |
| Sent and deleted mail | ✅ Synced everywhere | ⚠️ Stays only on that device |
| Offline reading | ⚠️ Cached mail only | ✅ Full local copy |
| Server storage used | Yes, counts against your quota | Can be freed after download |
| Best for | Phone + computer, everyday use | Single PC, local archives |
Excite Settings Worth Knowing#
Excite documents the connection details more clearly than exact quotas. These are the points that shape a client setup:
| Incoming server | imap.bluetiehome.com, 993 SSL |
| Outgoing server | smtp.bluetiehome.com, 587 SSL, auth required |
| Client access | Premium subscription only |
| Free accounts | Webmail at login.bluetiehome.com, no client |
| Username | Full @excite.com address in a client |
| Login page | login.bluetiehome.com, local part only |
Troubleshooting Excite Mail Connections#
Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:
| Error you see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Login failed on a free account | IMAP needs Premium | A free Excite account cannot use a client. Upgrade to Premium or read mail at login.bluetiehome.com. |
| Server not found: imap.excite.com | Old host from a legacy guide | Use the BlueTie host imap.bluetiehome.com. The excite.com hostnames predate the move. |
| Cannot connect to server | Wrong port or encryption | Check IMAP 993 SSL and SMTP 587 SSL. Antivirus suites and VPN apps block these ports often enough to be worth a look. |
| Password keeps being asked | Wrong host or a free account | Confirm imap.bluetiehome.com and that the account is Premium. |
| Messages stuck in Outbox | SMTP authentication is off | Switch on outgoing server requires authentication, using the same login as incoming. |
Reader Reported Fixes
Nothing worked until the account went Premium. A reader spent an hour swapping hosts and ports on a free Excite account. None of it mattered, because client access is a Premium feature on Excite. Upgrading was the fix. On a free account, the browser at login.bluetiehome.com is the only way in.
An old imap.excite.com setup stopped resolving. A setup carried over from years back pointed at imap.excite.com. After the BlueTie move that host no longer answers reliably. Switching incoming to imap.bluetiehome.com and outgoing to smtp.bluetiehome.com brought it straight back.
Keeping a Copy of Your Excite Mail#
A backup wants the same Premium login. The IMAP host imap.bluetiehome.com on 993 SSL, your full @excite.com address, then your Excite password. A free account cannot back up over a client, since client access is Premium only.
Legacy portal mail is worth archiving. Excite is an old service that has changed hands. Pulling a local copy of the mailbox means a future change never costs you the mail.
Leaving Excite? Back up first, then move. Once an old portal account lapses, recovery is rarely possible.
Taking your mail to a new account? The Univik Email Migration Tool copies every folder from the old account to the new one. Enter the IMAP settings from this page for the Excite Mail side and your new provider's settings for the other.
Rather not do it yourself? Our Email Migration Services team plans and runs the whole transfer for you and verifies every folder arrived.
Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#
The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete Excite Mail mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep forever, even if the account closes.
- Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
- Choose IMAP as the source. Excite will not appear by name, so IMAP with the BlueTie host is the route.
- Sign in with your full email address and your Excite password. The account has to be Premium for a client to connect.
- If the tool asks for server details, use
imap.bluetiehome.comwith port993and SSL from the IMAP table above. - Pick a saving format and folder, then start the backup. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Email Settings Glossary#
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.
SSL / TLS / STARTTLS
Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).
Premium Account
The paid Excite tier. IMAP and POP client access, plus forwarding, come with it. A free Excite account is limited to reading mail in the browser.
OAuth
Sign in through the provider's own window instead of typing a password into the app. The modern method most providers are moving to.
How We Verify These Settings#
Since 2013 Univik has shipped email backup, migration and converter tools. They open IMAP and SMTP sessions daily, so when a host, a port or a login rule shifts, it shows in our logs ahead of most published guides.
Every value on this page is confirmed with 3 checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against Excite own support on BlueTie, which is where the hosts, ports and the Premium-only rule come from. A provider notice prompts a fresh check on our side. Even without one, we look again each quarter.
Found something that no longer matches what Excite Mail shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

A Premium account with IMAP downloads mail as it syncs, though a dedicated backup tool moves faster and writes standard files that open anywhere. See how to back up your Excite mailbox.
