Laposte.net Mail Settings: The Reset That Reopens Access

Every server value for Laposte.net in Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or your phone. If a client suddenly cannot connect, La Poste has often locked POP and IMAP for security. A password reset reopens them. Copy each value with 1 tap.

SMTP Server smtp.laposte.net
SMTP Port 587 (SSL) / 587 (STARTTLS)
POP3 Server smtp.laposte.net

Quick answer: Laposte.net email runs on Laposte.net settings. Every protocol connects to imap.laposte.net. IMAP is on 993, POP3 on 995 and SMTP on 587, each secured with SSL. Your username is the full address and the mailbox password you set in Laposte.net settings lets you in. Your exact values also sit under your Laposte.net mail settings in Laposte.net settings. Outlook asking about Secure Password Authentication? leave that box off.

Every setting on this page is verified with live IMAP and SMTP connections from Univik email software. We build email backup and converter tools since 2013, so we test against these servers every day. See what changed →

What Changed Recently#

A host changes how you sign in more often than it changes the server names. Here is the current status for Laposte.net and what it means for your setup.

Worth knowing

Use the full laposte.net address. La Poste turns down a bare mailbox name. Put you@laposte.net in both the incoming and the outgoing server.

Worth knowing

Secure ports only since July 2023. Plain unencrypted connections stopped working. Keep SSL or TLS on for imap, pop and smtp.laposte.net.

Worth knowing

A reset reopens a locked client. After a security lockdown, the forgotten-password path reopens POP and IMAP. Then update the new password in your client.

Current status: incoming mail uses imap.laposte.net on 993 for IMAP or pop.laposte.net on 995 for POP, with SSL. Outgoing uses smtp.laposte.net on 587, with 465 as the fallback. All connections need SSL or TLS.

Before You Begin#

Handle these two basics before anything else. Skip them and your email app will reject the connection even when every server value is correct.

1. Create the mailbox

Add the address under your mail settings in Laposte.net settings and set its password. That password is the one your apps use.

Where: Laposte.net settings then your mail settings

2. Open your Laposte.net mail settings

Click the reset that reopens access next to the address, then your Laposte.net mail settings to read the server name and secure ports.

About Laposte.net#

Laposte.net is the free mail service of La Poste, the French postal group. A mailbox reads in a browser at www.laposte.net. It also works in Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird.

Incoming mail uses imap.laposte.net on 993 for IMAP. For POP it is pop.laposte.net on 995. Outgoing uses smtp.laposte.net on 587, with 465 as the fallback. Every connection has needed SSL or TLS since July 2023. The point to know is what happens after a security incident. La Poste has more than once locked POP and IMAP and left only the webmail working. A password reset through the forgotten-password path reopens client access. You then update that new password in both the incoming and the outgoing server.

Laposte.net Webmail Login#

You can always read your mail in a browser. The official sign in pages are:

Webmail

www.laposte.net

Laposte.net Webmail

aide.laposte.net

La Poste Help

aide.laposte.net

Watch out for fake support pages. Many pages ranking for email settings show a phone number and ask you to call for "expert setup help". Laposte.net and Univik never ask you to call a number to enter server settings. Everything you need is free on this page.

Find Your Settings#

IMAP is ready the moment a mailbox exists, so nothing needs switching on. To read the exact values for one address, Laposte.net lists them inside Laposte.net settings.

  1. Log in to Laposte.net settings from your Laposte.net client area.
  2. Open your mail settings in the Email section.
  3. Click the reset that reopens access beside your address, then your Laposte.net mail settings.
  4. Pick your app or read the manual settings for the server name and secure ports.
Server name or imap.laposte.net? Both reach the same mailbox. For a clean SSL connection use the server hostname from that screen, since it matches the certificate before your own domain SSL is in place.

Laposte.net IMAP Settings#

IMAP is the incoming choice Laposte.net points most people to. Mail stays put on the server, so a laptop and a phone read one shared inbox. Pull the exact server name from your Laposte.net mail settings in Laposte.net settings.

Laposte.net POP3 Settings#

POP3 downloads mail to 1 device. Pick it only if you want a local copy on a single computer. Not sure? See the comparison below.

Careful with POP3 delete settings. Some clients remove mail from the server after download. Check "leave a copy on the server" if you still want mail in webmail.

Laposte.net SMTP Settings#

Stay on the secure ports: Laposte.net lists 993 for IMAP and 995 for POP3 over SSL. The plain ports 143 and 110 exist but send your login unencrypted, so keep SSL set.

SMTP handles outgoing mail. If you can read mail but not send it, the problem is here.

Nothing sending? Put sending on 587 with SSL. Many home connections block port 25. Laposte.net also supports 587 and 26 if 587 is blocked. Confirm outgoing authentication is on.
Name warning? Swap smtp.laposte.net for the server hostname from your Laposte.net mail settings. That host matches the certificate, so the alert clears.

Check Laposte.net IMAP Settings Online#

You don't need to download anything to check Laposte.net IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup: every value is verified, current and copyable straight from your browser. Not sure your address uses Laposte.net servers? Type it below and find out instantly.

Does my email address use these settings?

Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.

Want to verify the account itself before configuring an app? Sign in at Laposte.net webmail, which confirms your address and password work, then confirm an Laposte.net password exists. If both pass, any email app connects with the tables above.

Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#

This page covers Laposte.net. For every other address, work email on a company domain included, we run a free online lookup database: imapsettings.com.

imapsettings.com

Check IMAP settings online →

Enter any email address and get the incoming and outgoing server settings for that domain in 1 step:

Incoming server: hostname, port, SSL/TLS and username format
Outgoing server: SMTP hostname, port and encryption

Your address is used only to find the settings for that domain. Nothing is stored or shared.

Username and Password#

Both come from the mailbox itself. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one you chose when you built the address in Laposte.net settings. A standard Laposte.net mailbox uses no Laposte.net password.

Username is the full address

Type you@laposte.net in full, with the part after the at sign. Laposte.net turns down a bare mailbox name.

Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.

Password is the mailbox one

This is the webmail password you set under your mail settings in Laposte.net settings, not your Laposte.net client area login. Reset it there if an app keeps refusing it.

The two factor prompt in the Laposte.net client area guards billing, not the mailbox connection.

Forgot the password? Head to your mail settings in Laposte.net settings, locate the address, click Manage and enter a new password. Change it in each app after that.

Set Up Laposte.net in Email Clients#

The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:

Outlook (Windows and Mac)

  1. In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
  2. Choose IMAP and set incoming to imap.laposte.net on 993 with SSL.
  3. Set outgoing to the same server on 587 with SSL.
  4. Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
  5. Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.

Apple Mail (macOS)

  1. In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
  2. Give your name, Laposte.net address and password, then continue.
  3. Enter imap.laposte.net with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
  4. Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
  5. Save and wait for the mailbox to load.

iPhone and iPad

  1. In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
  2. Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
  3. Keep IMAP chosen and put imap.laposte.net in both server boxes.
  4. Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since Laposte.net expects SSL.
  5. Tap Save and let iOS run its check.

Android

  1. Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
  2. Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
  3. For incoming use imap.laposte.net on 993 over SSL.
  4. For outgoing use smtp.laposte.net on 587 over SSL.
  5. Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.

Thunderbird

  1. In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
  2. Type your name, Laposte.net address and password, then Continue.
  3. Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
  4. If detection fails, type imap.laposte.net in yourself.
  5. Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.

Laposte.net Webmail Settings#

Server settings connect your apps. The controls here shape how the mailbox acts on its own. They live in Laposte.net webmail, opened at www.laposte.net in any browser.

Signature

Add one in the webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from webmail. A desktop app keeps a signature of its own.

Vacation Auto Reply

Set an autoresponder in Laposte.net settings and give it start and end dates. The Laposte.net server delivers it, so it fires even when your machine is off.

Filters and Folders

Create filters from the Laposte.net webmail filters in Laposte.net settings. A server side rule sorts a message ahead of any device fetching it. A rule set inside an app only works while that app is running.

Spam and Blocked Senders

Laposte.net runs SpamAssassin on incoming mail. Set the threshold and block unwanted senders in Laposte.net settings. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.

POP3 vs IMAP#

FeatureIMAPPOP3
Where mail livesOn the Laposte.net serverDownloaded to 1 device
Multiple devices✅ Everything stays in sync❌ Each device sees different mail
Sent and deleted mail✅ Synced everywhere⚠️ Stays only on that device

Our verdict: pick IMAP unless you have a clear reason not to. If you want a permanent offline archive of your Laposte.net mailbox, a backup tool does that job better than POP3.

Troubleshooting Laposte.net Connections#

Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Error you seeWhat it meansFix
Username or password rejected Short username or wrong password Use the full email address with the mailbox password from Laposte.net settings, not the client area login.
Cannot send on port 25 ISP blocks the default SMTP port Switch outgoing to 587 with SSL. Laposte.net also accepts 587 and 26 if 587 is blocked.
Client suddenly cannot connect La Poste has locked POP and IMAP After a security incident the webmail keeps working while clients are shut out. Reset your password through the forgotten-password path on www.laposte.net, then enter the new password in the client. This reopens external access.
Reads mail but will not send after a reset New password not set on the outgoing server A reset changes the password everywhere. Set the new password on smtp.laposte.net as well as on the incoming server, since the outgoing server signs in separately. Then a test message goes through.
Cannot connect to server Wrong port or encryption Set 993 with SSL incoming and 587 with SSL outgoing. A firewall on your own machine can block it as well.
Repeated password prompt Short username or a typo Clear the saved login, then put in the full address with the mailbox password.
Messages stuck in Outbox SMTP authentication is off Enable "outgoing server requires authentication" with the same login as incoming mail.
Outlook still fails after ticking SPA laposte.net does not use SPA Untick Require Secure Password Authentication. Keep SSL or TLS on and use your normal Laposte.net password. SPA blocks the login on a server that does not run it.
Authentication error with correct details The client speaks an old TLS version laposte.net dropped TLS 1.0 and 1.1, so a stale app cannot authenticate. Update the app to a version that speaks TLS 1.2 or newer, then sign in again.

Reader Reported Fixes

Copy from your Laposte.net mail settings. When a manual setup will not connect, the your Laposte.net mail settings page in Laposte.net settings prints the exact server name and ports for that mailbox. Pasting those in clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.

Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webimap.laposte.net with the full address and mailbox password. If webmail works, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.

The Secure Password Authentication Box: Leave It Off#

Outlook and some Windows clients show a checkbox called Require Secure Password Authentication (SPA). La Poste's own guide notes it in passing, so people tick it and then cannot sign in. For laposte.net, the box stays off.

SPA is a special login method. Very few mail servers use it. laposte.net is not one of them. What signs you in is your normal password sent over SSL or TLS. Tick SPA when the server does not use it and the login is refused, even with every server name and port correct. So when an authentication error appears, work through the real causes below:

CheckWhat it should be
Secure Password AuthenticationOff. laposte.net does not use SPA, so ticking it blocks the login.
EncryptionSSL or TLS on, on 993 for IMAP and 587 for SMTP. Your password travels safely that way.
Outgoing authenticationThe my-server-requires-authentication box on, with the same login as incoming. This one is separate from SPA.
TLS versionTLS 1.2 or newer. laposte.net dropped TLS 1.0 and 1.1, so an old client fails to authenticate until it is updated.
Authentication error with the right password? an old client stuck on TLS 1.0 or 1.1 is a frequent cause. Update the app so it speaks TLS 1.2, then sign in again.

Moving Mail In or Out?#

Laposte.net mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any Laposte.net account. Each folder stays on the server until the move finishes.

Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

Carrying mail across? The Univik Email Migration Tool moves each folder over an IMAP link. Give it the Laposte.net server name and mailbox password on this side and the other account opposite.

Rather hand it off? Our Email Migration Services team runs the whole move and verifies each folder arrived.

Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#

The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete Laposte.net mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep forever, even if the account closes.

  1. Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
  2. Select Laposte.net from the source list. If it isn't listed by name, choose IMAP.
  3. Give the complete email address with your mailbox password. The login name is always the whole email address.
  4. When the backup tool wants server details, hand it imap.laposte.net on port 993 with SSL for Laposte.net. Take those values straight from the IMAP table above, with port 993 over SSL.
  5. Pick a saving format and folder, then start the backup. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Why back up before switching providers: POP3 only grabs the inbox and vacation replies to a closed account bounce. A full IMAP backup keeps every folder, attachment and date stamp in files any email app can open later. Moving to a new account instead of archiving? Use the email migration tool to copy mail directly between accounts.

Email Settings Glossary#

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the La Poste server, so every device shows the same inbox. Use imap.laposte.net on port 993 with SSL.

POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to one device. Use pop.laposte.net on port 995 with SSL. Tick leave a copy on the server if you still want it in the webmail.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail through smtp.laposte.net on port 587 with SSL. Port 465 works too. It needs a sign-in.

SSL and TLS

The encryption La Poste requires on every connection since July 2023. Plain unencrypted ports no longer work, so keep SSL or TLS on for all three servers.

imap.laposte.net

The incoming server for IMAP. Set it on port 993 with SSL to read mail that stays on the server.

smtp.laposte.net

The outgoing server. Set it on port 587 with SSL and a sign-in. Port 465 is the fallback if 587 is blocked.

Password Reset

The step that reopens client access after La Poste locks POP and IMAP for security. Run it through the forgotten-password path, then update the new password in your client.

Forgotten-Password Path

The reset route on www.laposte.net that sends a code by SMS or to your recovery address. It is the route that reopens external access, not the change-password page inside settings.

Laposte.net Webmail

The browser view of your mail at www.laposte.net. Always works, even during a spell when POP and IMAP are locked.

Full Email Address

Your username for the server is the whole laposte.net address. The same value works for incoming and outgoing.

Recovery Address

The backup email or mobile number on your account. La Poste sends the reset code there, so keep it current or a reset cannot reach you.

laposte.net

The free mail service of La Poste, the French postal group. A mailbox carries an address like you@laposte.net, which is also your username.

Secure Password Authentication

A Windows login method some clients call SPA. laposte.net does not use it, so the box stays off or the sign-in fails.

SMTP Authentication

The my-server-requires-authentication tick on the outgoing server. It uses the same login as incoming. It is not the same thing as SPA.

TLS 1.2

The minimum encryption version laposte.net accepts. Older TLS 1.0 and 1.1 were dropped, so a stale client has to be updated to connect.

How We Verify These Settings#

Univik builds email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. Our tools sign in to Laposte.net over IMAP and SMTP every day for thousands of users, so a changed server, port or login rule shows up in our connection logs before most guides notice it.

Every value on this page is confirmed with three checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against the Laposte.net guides and a sign in with a real mailbox using the full address. We re verify after any provider announcement and at least once a quarter.

Found something that no longer matches what Laposte.net shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Incoming is imap.laposte.net on port 993 with SSL for IMAP. For POP the host is pop.laposte.net on port 995. Outgoing is smtp.laposte.net on port 587 with SSL. Port 465 works as a fallback. Every connection needs SSL or TLS. The username is your full laposte.net address.

La Poste has more than once locked POP and IMAP after a security incident, leaving only the webmail. If that is the cause, a password reset reopens client access. Run the reset through the forgotten-password path, then set the new password in your client.

Use the forgotten-password link on www.laposte.net, not the change-password page inside settings. La Poste sends a code by SMS or to your recovery address. You pick a new password, which lifts the lock on POP and IMAP. Enter the new password in the client afterwards.

The new password most likely reached the incoming server but not the outgoing one. Set the new password on smtp.laposte.net too, since it signs in on its own. Use port 587 with SSL. Try 465 if 587 is blocked.

IMAP is the better default. It keeps mail on the La Poste server so a phone and a laptop show the same inbox. POP downloads to one device, so tick leave a copy on the server in your client if you still want the mail in the webmail.

Your username is the full address, like you@laposte.net, not the part before the at sign. The same value goes in the incoming and the outgoing server.

Send through smtp.laposte.net on port 587 with SSL. If 587 is blocked, switch to 465 with SSL. Turn authentication on and use your full laposte.net address and password.

Yes. A laposte.net mailbox reads over IMAP or POP and sends over SMTP at no charge. Set the servers above in your app, then sign in with your address. La Poste also offers an official Laposte.net app if you prefer.

Open www.laposte.net and sign in with your full address and password. Webmail keeps working even when POP and IMAP are locked, so it is the quickest way back to your inbox during an outage.

No, leave it off. laposte.net does not use Secure Password Authentication, so ticking that box blocks the login even when the server names and ports are right. Your normal password over SSL or TLS is what signs you in. If an authentication error persists, check that your client speaks TLS 1.2, since the older TLS versions were dropped.
