Quick answer: GoDaddy runs two email platforms. Professional Email uses imap.secureserver.net (993), pop.secureserver.net (995) and smtpout.secureserver.net (465), all SSL, with your full email address and email password. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy uses outlook.office365.com (993/995) and smtp.office365.com (587). It needs modern sign-in or an app password. Not sure which you have? Tell them apart here. POP3 works on the secureserver.net side only.
What Changed Recently#
Email providers change login rules more often than server addresses. GoDaddy has reshuffled its email products more than once, which is why two people can both have "GoDaddy email" and need different servers. Here is what changed and where things stand in 2026.
Latest update
Legacy Workspace Email was retired. GoDaddy's old Workspace Email product was shut down and its mailboxes were moved to either Professional Email or Microsoft 365. If an old setup suddenly fails, your mailbox was most likely migrated, so check which platform you are on now and use the matching servers.
Earlier change
Microsoft 365 mailboxes dropped basic passwords. If your GoDaddy plan is Microsoft 365, Microsoft turned off basic authentication for IMAP and POP on most tenants. A plain-password setup fails, so you use modern sign-in or an app password. Professional Email on secureserver.net still uses your email password directly.
Earlier change
GoDaddy keeps nudging Professional Email users to Microsoft 365. The secureserver.net platform still works, but GoDaddy is no longer building on it. Nothing forces you to move today. If you do, back the mailbox up first.
Before You Begin#
With GoDaddy, the first step is not a server value at all. It is knowing which product you have, because the wrong platform's servers will never connect.
1. Identify your GoDaddy email platform
Professional Email and Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy share nothing at the server level. Put secureserver.net values into a Microsoft 365 mailbox and every connection times out. The reverse fails the same way. Settle this before anything else.
2. Turn on SMTP authentication
On both platforms, outgoing mail needs authentication switched on. Professional Email calls it "require sign-in" in the control panel. Microsoft 365 needs SMTP AUTH enabled on the mailbox. Without it, mail arrives but will not send.

About GoDaddy Email#
GoDaddy email is the hosted mailbox that comes with a GoDaddy domain or hosting plan, used by millions of small businesses on their own domain name.
GoDaddy is a domain registrar and host that also sells email. It has offered several email products over the years. The one detail that matters more than any server value is this: a GoDaddy address can sit on one of two unrelated platforms. Professional Email runs on GoDaddy's own secureserver.net servers. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy runs on Microsoft's servers. Knowing which one you have decides everything else.
| Service Name | GoDaddy Email (Professional Email and Microsoft 365) |
| Sold By | GoDaddy |
| Two Platforms | secureserver.net (Professional Email) or Microsoft 365 |
| Email Domain | Your own domain, for example you@yourbusiness.com |
| Webmail | email.godaddy.com or Office 365 |
| Servers | secureserver.net or office365.com, by platform |
| Sign-In | Email password (Professional), modern auth or app password (Microsoft 365) |
| POP3 Support | Professional Email only, not Microsoft 365 |
mail.yourbusiness.com. It is either secureserver.net or outlook.office365.com, depending on your platform. Your domain only changes the username.
GoDaddy Webmail Login#
Which webmail page you use depends on your platform. The official ones are:

outlook.office.com (Microsoft 365)

Which GoDaddy Email Do You Have?#
This one question decides every other setting. GoDaddy sells Professional Email on its own servers and resells Microsoft 365. The two share no server addresses. Three quick tells sort almost everyone:
| Professional Email | Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy | |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming server | imap.secureserver.net / pop.secureserver.net | outlook.office365.com |
| Outgoing server | smtpout.secureserver.net | smtp.office365.com |
| SMTP port | 465 (SSL) | 587 (STARTTLS) |
| POP3 | Yes | No |
| Sign-in | Email password, require sign-in on | Modern auth or app password |
| Webmail | email.godaddy.com | outlook.office.com |
| Daily send limit | About 250 messages | Up to 10,000 recipients |
Still unsure? Open email.godaddy.com. If your mailbox opens there, you have Professional Email. If it bounces you to a Microsoft sign-in, you have Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy.
GoDaddy IMAP Settings#
IMAP is the right incoming choice on both platforms, since it keeps mail on the server so every device matches. Use the table for the platform you identified above. The servers are completely different:
Professional Email (secureserver.net)
| IMAP Server | imap.secureserver.net | |
| Port | 993 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS | |
| Username | Your full email address, for example you@yourbusiness.com | |
| Password | Your email password |
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy
| IMAP Server | outlook.office365.com | |
| Port | 993 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Modern sign-in or an app password, not your plain password |
GoDaddy POP3 Settings#
POP3 exists on Professional Email only. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy does not offer POP, so if you are on that platform, use IMAP. On Professional Email, pick POP3 only for a single-computer download:
| POP3 Server | pop.secureserver.net | |
| Port | 995 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Your email password |
GoDaddy SMTP Settings#
SMTP handles outgoing mail. It is where most GoDaddy sending problems live. Use your platform's server, then make sure outgoing authentication is switched on:
Professional Email (secureserver.net)
| SMTP Server | smtpout.secureserver.net | |
| Port (SSL) | 465 | |
| Port (alternate) | 587 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Authentication | Required. Turn on "require sign-in" in the control panel. |
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy
| SMTP Server | smtp.office365.com | |
| Port (STARTTLS) | 587 | |
| Encryption | STARTTLS | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Authentication | Required. SMTP AUTH must be enabled on the mailbox. |
Check GoDaddy IMAP Settings Online#
You don't need to download anything to check GoDaddy IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup, with both platforms' values verified and copyable. A domain check cannot tell Professional Email from Microsoft 365, since both sit on your own domain, so use the platform tells above to pick a column. Type your address for a quick check:
Does my email address use these settings?
Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.
Want to verify the account itself first? Sign in at GoDaddy or Office 365 webmail. Where your mailbox opens tells you the platform. A working webmail login proves the account is fine, so any app failure points to the wrong server set or the sign-in method.
Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#
This page covers GoDaddy. For any other address, including a business domain on a different host, our free lookup database imapsettings.com returns the incoming and outgoing servers for any domain in one step.

GoDaddy Sign-In: Passwords by Platform#
The two platforms sign in differently, so the password that works depends on which one you have. Here is the split:
| Platform and place | Email password | App password / modern auth |
|---|---|---|
| Professional Email, webmail and apps | ✓ Works | ✗ Not used |
| Microsoft 365, webmail | ✓ Works | Not needed |
| Microsoft 365, Outlook and Apple Mail | Modern sign-in | ✓ Works |
| Microsoft 365, older clients and phones (manual) | ✗ Often blocked | ✓ Required |
Professional Email: use your email password
Professional Email on secureserver.net does not use app passwords. Enter your full email address and your normal email password in the client. Switch "require sign-in" on so outgoing mail authenticates. If a password stops working, reset it in the GoDaddy Email & Office dashboard.
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy: create an app password
- First try modern sign-in. A recent Outlook or Apple Mail opens a Microsoft window, which is the cleaner route and needs no app password.
- If the client has no Microsoft window, sign in at your Microsoft account security page and turn on multifactor authentication, which app passwords require.
- Open the app passwords area and create one, naming it for the device. If it is missing, your GoDaddy or Microsoft admin has switched it off.
- Copy the code once and paste it as the password in your email app.
you@yourbusiness.com as the username, never just the part before the @ sign. Entering only the local part is one of the most common GoDaddy sign-in failures.
Set Up GoDaddy in Email Clients#
First know your platform. Below, "your incoming server" means imap.secureserver.net for Professional Email or outlook.office365.com for Microsoft 365. "Your outgoing server" means smtpout.secureserver.net (465) or smtp.office365.com (587). Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- On Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy, just type your address in File → Add Account. A recent Outlook opens a Microsoft sign-in and fills the servers for you.
- On Professional Email, choose Advanced options → "Let me set up my account manually" → IMAP.
- Enter your incoming and outgoing servers from your platform's tables, IMAP port 993 SSL and SMTP 465 or 587.
- Sign in with the full email address. Use your email password (Professional) or an app password (Microsoft 365).
- Open More Settings → Outgoing Server, tick "requires authentication", then send yourself a test.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- Open Mail → Settings → Accounts → Add Account.
- On Microsoft 365, choose Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365 to sign in through Microsoft. On Professional Email, choose Other Mail Account.
- Enter your name, full address and password, then continue.
- If asked for servers, enter your platform's incoming and outgoing values from the tables above.
- Enable Mail and finish.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account.
- On Microsoft 365, tap Microsoft Exchange and sign in through Microsoft. On Professional Email, tap Other → Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name, full address and password, then tap Next.
- Keep IMAP selected and enter your platform's incoming and outgoing servers.
- Use the full email address as the username in both host fields, then tap Save.
Android
- Open your mail app (Gmail app, Samsung Email or another) → Add account.
- On Microsoft 365, choose Exchange or Office 365 to sign in through Microsoft. On Professional Email, choose Other or IMAP.
- Enter your full address and password, then pick Manual setup if prompted.
- Enter your platform's servers: IMAP 993 SSL incoming, SMTP 465 (Professional) or 587 (Microsoft 365) outgoing.
- Finish setup and pull down to sync your inbox.
Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird → Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name and full address, then select Continue.
- On Microsoft 365, Thunderbird offers OAuth, so leave the password blank and let the Microsoft window open. On Professional Email, enter your email password.
- Confirm IMAP and, if detection fails, choose Configure manually and enter your platform's servers from the tables above.
- Select Done. Folders sync on first open.
GoDaddy Webmail Settings#
Server settings connect your apps. These control how the mailbox behaves and live in webmail. On Professional Email that is email.godaddy.com. On Microsoft 365 it is Outlook on the web under the gear icon.
Signature
Settings → Signature in either webmail. A signature set here shows in webmail only. Outlook and phone apps keep their own.
Vacation Auto Reply
Settings → Auto-reply, called Automatic replies on Microsoft 365. Set start and end dates so it turns off by itself. The server sends it, so it runs with your computer off.
Filters and Folders
Settings → Filters, called Rules on Microsoft 365. Rules made here run on the server, so mail is sorted before any device syncs. A rule inside a desktop client only runs while that app is open.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Settings → Blocked senders, called Junk email on Microsoft 365. Add addresses or domains to the block list. Blocked mail goes to the spam or junk folder.
GoDaddy POP3 vs IMAP#
The usual trade-off, with one GoDaddy twist: POP exists on Professional Email only.
| Feature | IMAP | POP3 |
|---|---|---|
| Where mail lives | On the GoDaddy server | Downloaded to 1 device |
| Multiple devices | ✅ Everything stays in sync | ❌ Each device sees different mail |
| Sent and deleted mail | ✅ Synced everywhere | ⚠️ Stays only on that device |
| Offline reading | ⚠️ Cached mail only | ✅ Full local copy |
| Server storage used | Yes, counts against your quota | Can be freed after download |
| Best for | Phone + computer, everyday use | Single PC, local archives |
GoDaddy Sending and Storage Limits#
The two platforms have very different caps, which is another reason to know yours. Hit a limit and sending stops for a while with an unhelpful error:
| Daily send, Professional Email | About 250 messages a day on standard plans |
| Daily send, Microsoft 365 | Up to 10,000 recipients a day, about 30 messages a minute |
| Attachment size limit | Around 25 MB to send on both platforms |
| Mailbox storage | By plan, commonly 10 GB to 50 GB per mailbox |
| What happens at the limit | Outbound sending pauses, then resumes once the window resets |
GoDaddy Email Not Working#
Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:
| Error you see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot connect, server not found | You are using the other platform's servers | Confirm your platform, then use only secureserver.net or only office365.com. Mixing them is the top GoDaddy failure. |
| Username or password incorrect | You entered only the part before the @ | Use the full address, you@yourbusiness.com, as the username. GoDaddy rejects the local part on its own. |
| Basic authentication is disabled | A Microsoft 365 mailbox no longer accepts plain passwords | Use modern sign-in. If the client lacks it, turn on multifactor auth and use an app password. This does not affect Professional Email. |
| Mail receives but will not send | Outgoing authentication is off | Turn on "require sign-in" (Professional) or SMTP AUTH on the mailbox (Microsoft 365), then tick outgoing authentication in the client. |
| Old settings stopped working overnight | Your mailbox was migrated between platforms | Re-check which platform you are on now and switch to the matching servers. |
Reader Reported Fixes
Two fixes that come up again and again in GoDaddy setups, beyond the error table above.
Delete the account and re-add it after a migration. When a mailbox moves between platforms, an old profile keeps the stale servers and never updates on its own. Remove the GoDaddy account from the client, then add it fresh with the correct platform's servers, which clears most post-migration failures.
Turn on outgoing authentication before blaming the port. Most "cannot send" cases are not a port problem. On Professional Email switch on "require sign-in". On Microsoft 365 confirm SMTP AUTH is enabled for the mailbox, then reuse the incoming login for outgoing.
Migrating GoDaddy Email?#
Moving from Professional Email to Microsoft 365? This is the migration GoDaddy keeps recommending. Your address stays the same, but the servers change from secureserver.net to office365.com. Back up first, then let the migration copy your folders across.
Back up before any platform move. Export the mailbox to files so a stalled or partial migration cannot lose folders, attachments or dates. This is cheap insurance and takes minutes.
Moving to or from GoDaddy entirely? The Univik Email Migration Tool copies every folder over IMAP between accounts. Use the secureserver.net or office365.com settings from this page for the GoDaddy side and your other provider's for the other.
Setting up a GoDaddy address next to another provider? Our email settings index has the servers for most hosts.
Rather not do it yourself? Our Email Migration Services team plans and runs the whole transfer and verifies every folder arrived.
Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#
The IMAP settings above let you download a complete GoDaddy mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep, which matters most right before a platform migration.
- Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
- Choose IMAP as the source, using Microsoft 365 if your plan is the Microsoft one.
- Enter your platform's incoming server:
imap.secureserver.netfor Professional Email oroutlook.office365.comfor Microsoft 365, port 993 SSL. - Sign in with the full address, using your email password or an app password. Include every folder.
- Pick PST, MBOX, EML or PDF and a folder, then start. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Email Settings Glossary#
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol, on port 993. Mail stays on the server so every device shows the same inbox. GoDaddy uses imap.secureserver.net or outlook.office365.com by platform.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3, on port 995. Downloads mail to one device. Available on Professional Email (pop.secureserver.net) only, not Microsoft 365.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, the sending half. GoDaddy uses smtpout.secureserver.net (465) or smtp.office365.com (587). Both need outgoing authentication on.
SSL / TLS / STARTTLS
Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS covers ports 993, 995 and 465 on Professional Email. STARTTLS on 587 covers Microsoft 365 outgoing mail.
App Password
A code that stands in for your password inside an app. Needed on Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy where plain passwords are blocked. Professional Email uses your email password instead.
OAuth
Modern sign-in through a Microsoft window instead of a typed password. This is how Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy connects a recent Outlook or Apple Mail without an app password.
How We Verify These Settings#
Univik has built email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. GoDaddy mailboxes on both platforms pass through our tools constantly. That is how this page separates the secureserver.net product from Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy, rather than lumping them together the way many guides do.
Every value here is confirmed with three checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup on each platform, a comparison with GoDaddy's and Microsoft's own documentation and a real sign-in with both an email password and an app password. We re-check after any announcement and at least once a quarter.
Found a value that no longer matches what GoDaddy shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on your platform. Professional Email uses imap.secureserver.net on port 993 with SSL. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy uses outlook.office365.com on 993. Both use your full email address as the username. The full tables are in the IMAP settings section.
Open email.godaddy.com. If your mailbox opens there, you have Professional Email on secureserver.net. If it sends you to a Microsoft sign-in, you have Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy on office365.com. POP3 support and a recent signup also point to the two platforms. Full guide in which email do you have.
IMAP for almost everyone, since it is the only option on Microsoft 365. POP3 exists on Professional Email only, using pop.secureserver.net, for a single-computer download. For a lasting copy, a backup beats POP. Full comparison here.
It depends on your platform. Professional Email sends through smtpout.secureserver.net on port 465 with SSL. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy sends through smtp.office365.com on port 587 with STARTTLS. Both need outgoing authentication switched on, which is the top reason GoDaddy mail receives but will not send. Full tables in the SMTP settings section.
Only on Professional Email, using pop.secureserver.net on port 995 with SSL. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy does not offer POP3 at all, so use IMAP there. This is one of the clearest ways to tell the two platforms apart.
The most common cause is entering only the part before the @. GoDaddy needs the full you@yourbusiness.com as the username on both platforms. If that is correct, you may be on the wrong platform's servers. A Microsoft 365 mailbox may also need modern sign-in or an app password instead of a plain password.
Export the mailbox to files before a Professional Email to Microsoft 365 move, so a partial migration cannot lose anything. A backup tool saves every folder as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF over IMAP. Already have exported files? An email converter turns them into your target format.
Two GoDaddy-specific causes lead: your mailbox was migrated between platforms, so the old servers no longer answer. The other is that a Microsoft 365 mailbox stopped accepting plain passwords. Check which platform you are on and what changed recently, then switch servers or sign-in method to match.
An email migration tool copies mail between accounts over IMAP. Use the GoDaddy IMAP settings for your platform on one side and the destination account's on the other. Back up first, then every folder and date stays intact through the move.
With many mailboxes to move between platforms, our managed email migration service can run the whole project for you.
