Q: What are the Mailo IMAP settings?

Mailo keeps its client setup steady. The points worth knowing are the single server name and the Premium gate on POP3.

The host is mail.mailo.com. Both IMAP and SMTP use mail.mailo.com. The imap.mailo.com and smtp.mailo.com names that some guides list do not work, so enter mail.mailo.com in both fields.

Mailo setup is quick once one thing clicks. The server is not the name most people guess.

1. Use mail.mailo.com as the server

Both the incoming and outgoing server are mail.mailo.com. Do not enter imap.mailo.com or smtp.mailo.com. Those names do not work, even though some third party guides list them.

2. Use your primary address, not an alias

The username is your primary Mailo address, such as you@mailo.com. An alias will not authenticate. Some phone apps fill only the part before the @, so type the full address yourself.

Mailo is a French privacy focused email provider, funded by paid plans rather than ads and known for an ethical, eco-responsible approach.

The standout for client setup is the server name. Mailo mail is not on imap.mailo.com, it is on mail.mailo.com. That single host handles IMAP, SMTP and POP. You sign in with your primary full address and your normal password. Mailo also runs calendar and contact sync over CalDAV and CardDAV, plus ActiveSync on phones. It was formerly known as Net-C.

One host for every Mailo domain: Mailo runs many domains, such as @mailo.com and @net-c.com. Whatever your address, the client server stays mail.mailo.com. Only your address and web sign-in reflect the domain.

Watch out for fake support pages. A few pages that rank for these terms open with a phone number and a paid help pitch. No one at Mailo or Univik will make you dial a number to fill in a server field. Every value here is free.

Connect to mail.mailo.com#

Mailo login is plain once the server name is right. The host is mail.mailo.com for mail, your username is your primary full address and your password is the same one you use on the Mailo website. There is no app password.

Two names to avoid: a client pointed at imap.mailo.com or smtp.mailo.com will fail. Some third party guides list them, but they are not real Mailo servers. Enter mail.mailo.com in both the incoming and outgoing fields.

Alias will not sign in: the username has to be your primary Mailo address, not an alias you added later. On some phone apps the field pre-fills only the part before the @, so replace it with your complete address.

Some guides list imap.mailo.com or smtp.mailo.com. The real server for every protocol is mail.mailo.com.

Mailo authenticates only your primary full address. An alias or a name missing the domain will be refused.

Mailo skips the app password step. The password from the Mailo website is the same one your client uses.

Mailo IMAP Settings#

IMAP is the incoming protocol most people should use. It keeps your mail on the server so every device shows the same inbox.

The same host handles all three protocols on their SSL ports. POP3 is the one that needs a Premium plan.

Mailo POP3 Settings#

POP3 runs on the same host, mail.mailo.com, over SSL on port 995, but it is a Premium feature on Mailo. Free accounts use IMAP. Because POP3 drags messages onto a single machine and may wipe them from the server, IMAP remains the wiser pick. Not sure? See the comparison below.

Careful with POP3 delete settings. Some clients remove mail from the server after download. Check "leave a copy on the server" if you still want mail in webmail.

Mailo syncs calendars over CalDAV and contacts over CardDAV. Phones can also use ActiveSync on sync.mailo.com.

Mailo SMTP Settings#

Keep SSL on: use SSL with port 993 for IMAP, 465 for SMTP and 995 for POP3. If a client insists on STARTTLS, Mailo also accepts 587 for outgoing, but the SSL ports are the simple default.

SMTP runs on the same host, mail.mailo.com, on port 465 with SSL. If mail arrives but will not go out, the outgoing side is where to look.

Mailo Calendar and Contacts (CalDAV and CardDAV)#

Mailo syncs more than mail. Your calendar rides over CalDAV and your address book over CardDAV, each on its own host. On a phone, apps like DAVx5 handle it. On Outlook the CalDav Synchronizer extension does. Enter the full URL, your primary address and your normal password.

Swap in your own address: replace you@mailo.com in each URL with your primary address. Keep the trailing slash. The 1 near the end is the calendar or address book number. Extra calendars use 2, 3 and so on, which the generic URL https://caldav.mailo.com/ can discover for you.

Exchange ActiveSync at sync.mailo.com carries mail, calendar and contacts together on iOS and Android, though it does not work in desktop Outlook. On the desktop stick with IMAP for mail, CalDAV for the calendar and CardDAV for contacts.

Enter these full URLs in DAVx5 or CalDav Synchronizer, with your primary address in place of the sample.

Set Up Mailo in Email Clients#

The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:

Outlook Apple Mail iPhone and iPad Android Thunderbird

Outlook (Windows and Mac)

In Outlook choose File then Add Account. New Outlook keeps this under Settings then Accounts.
Type your primary Mailo address, expand Advanced options and switch on the manual setup checkbox.
Choose IMAP and set both servers to mail.mailo.com. Incoming is port 993 SSL and outgoing is port 465 SSL.
Enter your normal Mailo password when Outlook asks, with your primary address as the username.
Finish and send a test email to yourself to confirm both directions work.

Apple Mail (macOS)

Open Mail → Settings → Accounts → Add Account.
Select Mailo if listed, otherwise choose Other Mail Account.
Enter your name, primary address and normal password, then continue.
If asked for servers, enter the IMAP and SMTP values from the tables above.
Enable Mail in the checkbox list and finish.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account.
Tap Other, then Add Mail Account. iOS has no Mailo preset.
Enter your primary address and normal password, then tap Next.
Keep IMAP selected and set both the incoming and outgoing server to mail.mailo.com if iOS asks.
Tap Save and wait for iOS to verify the account.

Android

Open your mail app (Gmail app, Samsung Email or another) → Add account.
Choose Other (IMAP) when your provider is not in the list.
Enter your primary address and normal password. Where the automatic step comes up empty, choose Manual setup.
Enter the servers: mail.mailo.com on 993 SSL incoming, then the same host on 465 SSL outgoing. Type your full address, since the app may fill only the part before the @.
Finish setup and pull down to sync your inbox.

Thunderbird

Open Thunderbird → Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
Fill in your name, primary address and normal password, then select Continue.
Set both servers by hand to mail.mailo.com if autodetect misses. Select IMAP, set 993 SSL for incoming and 465 SSL for outgoing. Leave auth on normal password.
If detection fails, choose Configure manually and enter the table values above.
Select Done. Folders sync on first open.

Mailo Webmail Settings#

Those values connect your apps. What follows shapes the mailbox itself. It lives in the Mailo webmail under Options, reached from the gear icon at the top right.

Signature

Set in the Mailo webmail Options. A signature saved there shows on browser sent mail only. Each desktop client keeps its own.

Vacation Auto Reply

Set an away message in the Mailo webmail Options. Since the server sends the reply, it keeps responding even with every device switched off.

Filters and Folders

Any filter you set in the Mailo webmail lives server side and files each message before a client downloads it. An Outlook rule fires only when Outlook itself is running.

Spam and Blocked Senders

Mailo filters spam server side. When a message disappears, look in the webmail spam folder first, then fine tune your allow and block lists.

Troubleshooting Mailo Connections#

On Mailo the failures nearly always trace back to the server name, the alias or the POP3 gate. Find your symptom, then the fix.

Reader Reported Fixes

Use mail.mailo.com in both fields. The most common Mailo mistake is entering imap.mailo.com or smtp.mailo.com from an outdated guide. Put mail.mailo.com in the incoming and outgoing server fields and the connection comes right.

Enter the full primary address. If sign in fails, check that the username is your primary Mailo address in full, not an alias and not only the part before the @. Phone apps often drop the domain, so type it in.

Moving to Mailo?#

Most people reach Mailo from Gmail, Outlook.com or an old provider. That earlier mail will not come across by itself. IMAP shows only what sits on the server today, so older archives wait where they are until you bring them across.

Set up the Mailo side. Use the values here. Server mail.mailo.com on port 993 SSL, your primary full address as the username, then your normal Mailo password.

Copy the old mail over. The Univik Email Migration Tool copies every folder into Mailo. Point the destination fields at Mailo and the source fields at your old mailbox, then start the copy.

Keep the host and username right. During the move, the Mailo server is mail.mailo.com on both sides. The username is your primary address rather than an alias.

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.

POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.

SSL / TLS / STARTTLS

Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).

Mail host

The server your client connects to. For Mailo this is mail.mailo.com for IMAP, SMTP and POP, not an imap.mailo.com style name.

OAuth

Sign in through the provider's own window instead of typing a password into the app. The modern method most providers are moving to.
