Shaw Email Settings: IMAP, POP3 and SMTP

Rogers now owns Shaw, but Shaw email still runs on its own shaw.ca servers, not Rogers Yahoo. Two things trip people up: your username is the part before @shaw.ca. You must also turn on Classic mode in Webmail before IMAP or POP will connect. Every value is below, copy each with 1 tap.

Tested July 26, 2026 1 Tap Copy Shaw email still works

Shaw Quick Settings

IMAP Server imap.shaw.ca
IMAP Port 993 (SSL/TLS)
SMTP Server mail.shaw.ca
SMTP Port 587 (STARTTLS)
POP3 Server pop.shaw.ca
Username The part before @shaw.ca, not the full address

Quick answer: Use imap.shaw.ca port 993 with SSL for incoming mail. To send, use mail.shaw.ca port 587 with STARTTLS. Prefer POP? Use pop.shaw.ca port 995 with SSL. The two Shaw quirks: your username is the part before @shaw.ca, so john rather than john@shaw.ca. You must also set Shaw Webmail to Classic mode on a computer before IMAP or POP will connect. Your password is your normal Shaw password.

Every setting on this page is verified with live IMAP and SMTP connections from Univik email software. We build email backup and converter tools since 2013, so we connect to the shaw.ca servers every day. See what changed →

What Changed Recently#

Email providers change login rules more often than server addresses. Rogers owns Shaw now, which raises fair questions about the email. Here is what matters in 2026.

Latest update

Shaw email still runs on Shaw servers. The website now redirects to rogers.com, but the mail did not move to Rogers Yahoo. Keep using imap.shaw.ca and mail.shaw.ca. What the Rogers takeover means.

Earlier change

No new @shaw.ca addresses since February 26, 2026. Existing addresses keep working, including Webmail and account management through MyRogers. Rogers has not announced closing existing Shaw mailboxes.

Earlier change

Two setup quirks to remember. Your username is the part before @shaw.ca. Shaw Webmail must be in Classic mode before IMAP or POP connects. Both explained here.

Current status: IMAP, POP and SMTP all work with your normal Shaw password on the shaw.ca servers. No app password is needed. Just remember the short username and Classic mode.

Before You Begin#

Two Shaw specific things trip up most setups. Sort both and the rest is standard.

1. Use the short username

Shaw wants the part before @shaw.ca as the username, not the full address. For john@shaw.ca, the username is john. The full address in that box is the top login failure.

Where: Username details below →

2. Turn on Classic mode first

Shaw Webmail must be set to Classic mode before IMAP or POP is allowed. You do this on a computer, since the switch is not available on mobile.

About Shaw Mail#

Shaw was a major Canadian internet and cable provider. Although Rogers now owns it, Shaw email still runs on its own shaw.ca servers for a large base of long time subscribers.

Rogers completed its takeover of Shaw in April 2023. By 2025 the Shaw website was shut down, so shaw.ca now redirects to rogers.com and My Shaw became MyRogers. The email itself did not move to Rogers Yahoo. The quirk that trips up setup: your username is the part before @shaw.ca, plus Shaw Webmail must be in Classic mode before an app can connect.

Service NameShaw Email, now under Rogers
Owned ByRogers Communications (since 2023)
Email Runs OnShaw servers (shaw.ca)
Email Domainsshaw.ca, shawbiz.ca
Webmailwebmail.shaw.ca
ProtocolsIMAP, POP3 and SMTP
App Password NeededNo, normal password works
Mailbox StorageUp to 2 GB, 20 MB per message
Same settings for every Shaw address: a @shaw.ca address and a @shawbiz.ca business address use the identical shaw.ca servers on this page. Your domain only changes the username, never the servers.

Shaw Webmail Login#

You read Shaw mail in a browser at Shaw Webmail, which is still live after the Rogers takeover. The pages are:

Webmail

webmail.shaw.ca (your Shaw inbox)

Account Security

MyRogers, Shaw email support

Help and Recovery

rogers.com Shaw email settings covers password resets and the official server details.

Watch out for fake support pages. Since Shaw support moved under Rogers, plenty of copycat "Shaw email support" pages now show a phone number and ask you to call. Rogers, Shaw and Univik never ask you to call a number to enter server settings. Be wary of search results showing a Shaw support phone number, since many are not official. Everything you need is free on this page.

Setting Up Shaw Email#

Shaw email is a normal password account on the shaw.ca servers, so there is no app password to generate. Two Shaw specific rules cause almost every failed setup though. Both are easy once you know them.

1. The username drops the @shaw.ca

Shaw wants only the part before the at sign as your username. For john@shaw.ca the username is john. Your email address is still the full john@shaw.ca, but the username field takes the short form.

Shaw username is the part before the at sign Email addressjohn@shaw.ca Username to typejohn Typing the full john@shaw.ca is the top login failure
Some apps still accept the full address. If login fails, switch the username to the short form first.

2. Turn on Classic mode in Webmail

This is really two steps in Shaw Webmail, both done on a computer since the switch is not offered on mobile. Set the mode to Classic, then open Preferences and turn on access from other mail clients for IMAP or POP. Once both are set, your apps can connect.

Enable Classic mode and mail client access before IMAP or POP Shaw Webmailon a computer Set Classic modethen enable clientaccess in Preferences IMAP and POP allowedapps can connect
Miss either half and the app fails. Under Preferences the setting is usually labelled Access from Other Mail Client.
No app password here: Shaw uses your normal email password in mail apps. There is nothing extra to generate. Just the short username, Classic mode and the ports.

Shaw IMAP Settings#

IMAP is the incoming protocol most people should use. It keeps your mail on the Shaw server so every device shows the same inbox:

IMAP Serverimap.shaw.ca
Port993
EncryptionSSL/TLS (required)
UsernameThe part before @shaw.ca, for example john
PasswordYour normal Shaw email password
Webmail modeClassic mode must be on first
Shaw secure ports at a glance IMAP 993SSL, incoming POP 995SSL, incoming SMTP 587STARTTLS, outgoing
Shaw sends on port 587, not 465. The send server is mail.shaw.ca, not smtp.shaw.ca.

Shaw POP3 Settings#

POP3 downloads mail to 1 device. Pick it only if you want a local copy on a single computer. Not sure? See the comparison below.

POP3 Serverpop.shaw.ca
Port995
EncryptionSSL/TLS (required)
UsernameYour full email address
PasswordYour normal Shaw email password
Careful with POP3 delete settings. Some clients remove mail from the server after download. Check "leave a copy on the server" so mail still shows in Shaw Webmail. With a 2 GB mailbox, POP can help keep the server side small.

Shaw SMTP Settings#

Note the send server name: Shaw's outgoing server is mail.shaw.ca, not smtp.shaw.ca, on port 587 with STARTTLS. Use the same short username as incoming mail. On Android, tick STARTTLS if offered.

SMTP handles outgoing mail. If you can read but not send, the server name or the port is nearly always the cause:

SMTP Servermail.shaw.ca
Port (STARTTLS)587
EncryptionSTARTTLS or TLS
UsernameThe part before @shaw.ca, same as incoming
PasswordSame normal password as incoming mail
AuthenticationRequired. Tick "My outgoing server requires authentication" in Outlook.

Check Shaw IMAP Settings Online#

You don't need to download anything to check Shaw IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup. It reflects the servers that survived the Rogers takeover. Type your address below:

Does my email address use these settings?

Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.

Want to check the account first? Sign in at Shaw Webmail with your Shaw address and password. While you are there, set the mode to Classic. If webmail works but your app does not, recheck the short username and Classic mode.

Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#

This page covers Shaw. For any other address, including a business domain, our free lookup database imapsettings.com returns the incoming and outgoing servers for any domain in one step.

What the Rogers Takeover Means for Your Email#

Rogers finished buying Shaw in 2023. The Shaw brand has since wound down. That worries a lot of @shaw.ca users, so here is what actually changed and what stayed the same.

Shaw after the Rogers takeover: what changed and what stayed What changedshaw.ca redirects to rogers.comMy Shaw is now MyRogerssupport moved to rogers.com What stayed the sameyour shaw.ca address worksimap.shaw.ca and mail.shaw.caShaw Webmail is still live
The company changed, the email did not move to Rogers Yahoo. It still runs on the Shaw servers on this page.

The Two Things Worth Knowing

  1. No new addresses since February 26, 2026. Rogers stopped creating new @shaw.ca addresses. Existing ones keep working, so nothing to do if you already have one.
  2. Manage the account through MyRogers. Password resets and account details now live under rogers.com, while the mailbox itself stays on the Shaw servers.
Thinking ahead? Rogers has not announced closing existing Shaw mailboxes, but a free Gmail or Outlook.com address is a safe backup plan. Back up your Shaw mail first so you keep a copy whatever happens.

Set Up Shaw in Email Clients#

Incoming is imap.shaw.ca and outgoing is mail.shaw.ca in every app. Remember the short username and turn on Classic mode first. Only the menus differ, so jump to your app:

Outlook (Windows and Mac)

  1. Open Outlook → File → Add Account [new Outlook: Settings → Accounts → Add account].
  2. Enter your Shaw address, open Advanced options and check "Let me set up my account manually".
  3. Choose IMAP and enter imap.shaw.ca port 993 SSL, then mail.shaw.ca port 587 STARTTLS for outgoing.
  4. Set the username to the short form like john, then use your normal Shaw password.
  5. Finish and send yourself a test. If it will not connect, confirm Classic mode is on in Shaw Webmail.

Apple Mail (macOS)

  1. Open Mail → Settings → Accounts → Add Account.
  2. Choose Other Mail Account, since Shaw is not in the built in list.
  3. Enter your name, Shaw address and normal password, then continue.
  4. Set incoming to imap.shaw.ca and outgoing to mail.shaw.ca, with the short username.
  5. Enable Mail in the checkbox list and finish.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account.
  2. Tap Other, then Add Mail Account, since Shaw is not a preset.
  3. Enter your name, Shaw address and normal password, then tap Next.
  4. Keep IMAP selected. Incoming imap.shaw.ca, outgoing mail.shaw.ca, username the short form.
  5. Tap Save. Enable Classic mode on a computer first, since iPhone cannot switch it.

Android

  1. Open your mail app (Gmail app, Samsung Email or another), then Add account.
  2. Choose Other, then IMAP, since Shaw has no preset.
  3. Enter your address and normal password. If auto setup fails, pick Manual setup and use the short username.
  4. Enter the servers: imap.shaw.ca 993 SSL incoming, mail.shaw.ca 587 STARTTLS outgoing.
  5. Finish setup and pull down to sync your inbox.

Thunderbird

  1. Open Thunderbird → Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter your name, Shaw address and normal password, then select Continue.
  3. Thunderbird may guess the servers. Confirm IMAP and that the incoming host is imap.shaw.ca.
  4. If detection fails, choose Configure manually, enter the shaw.ca servers and set the username to the short form.
  5. Select Done. Folders sync on first open.

Shaw Webmail Settings#

Server settings connect your apps. These control how the mailbox behaves. Find them in Shaw Webmail at webmail.shaw.ca under Preferences.

Signature

Preferences, then Signatures. A signature here shows in Shaw Webmail only. Outlook and Thunderbird keep their own separate signature.

Vacation Auto Reply

Preferences, then Out of Office. Set start and end dates so it turns off by itself. It runs on the server, so it replies even when your computer is off.

Filters and Folders

Preferences, then Filters. Rules here run on the server, so they sort mail before your phone or Outlook sees it. Client side rules only run while that app is open.

Spam and Blocked Senders

Preferences, then Trusted and blocked senders. Add addresses to the block list. Blocked mail is kept out of your inbox.

POP3 vs IMAP#

FeatureIMAPPOP3
Where mail livesOn the Shaw serverDownloaded to 1 device
Multiple devices✅ Everything stays in sync❌ Each device sees different mail
Sent and deleted mail✅ Synced everywhere⚠️ Stays only on that device
Offline reading⚠️ Cached mail only✅ Full local copy
Server storage usedYes, counts against your quotaCan be freed after download
Best forPhone + computer, everyday useSingle PC, local archives
Our verdict: pick IMAP. It keeps your phone, computer and Shaw Webmail in sync. Given the small 2 GB mailbox, a backup tool is the better way to keep a permanent offline archive.

Shaw Sending and Storage Limits#

Shaw mailboxes are small, so storage is the limit you meet first. Know the numbers before you bulk forward or migrate a mailbox:

Mailbox storageUp to 2 GB total
Maximum message sizeUp to 20 MB, including attachments
Send servermail.shaw.ca, port 587
Password for appsYour normal Shaw password
UsernameThe part before @shaw.ca
When the mailbox fillsNew mail bounces until you free space

Troubleshooting Shaw Connections#

Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Error you seeWhat it meansFix
Login failed or password rejected Username has the @shaw.ca on it Change the username to the short form, for example john, not john@shaw.ca. This is the top Shaw fix.
Account is disabled or refused Classic mode or client access is off On a computer, set Shaw Webmail to Classic mode, then turn on access from other mail clients in Preferences.
Webmail works, app rejects the password Used the MyRogers password by mistake Your Shaw email password and your MyRogers sign in can differ. Enter your actual Shaw email password, not a Rogers or Outlook.com one.
Cannot connect to server Wrong port or encryption Check IMAP 993 SSL and SMTP 587 STARTTLS. Antivirus and VPN apps can also block these ports.
Wrong send server Used smtp.shaw.ca by mistake Shaw\'s outgoing server is mail.shaw.ca, not smtp.shaw.ca. Correct it on port 587.
Messages stuck in Outbox SMTP authentication is off Tick "outgoing server requires authentication" with the same short login on port 587.
Shaw will not connect? Two checks App will not connect? Username is the short formjohn, not john@shaw.ca Classic mode is onset it on a computer Both right, and the app connects
Almost every Shaw connection failure is the full-address username or Classic mode being off.

Reader Reported Fixes

Two fixes that come up again and again in Shaw setups, beyond the error table above.

Set Classic mode before you touch the email app. New Shaw Webmail blocks IMAP and POP until you switch to Classic mode. The option only appears on a computer. Turn it on there first, then set up your phone or Outlook. This clears most "account disabled" errors.

Free up space when new mail bounces. The mailbox holds only 2 GB, so a full inbox stops incoming mail. Delete large attachments or move old mail into a local backup, then empty Trash to reclaim the space.

Leaving Shaw or Changing ISP?#

Worried the email will disappear? Rogers has not announced closing existing Shaw mailboxes. Your @shaw.ca address still works on the servers on this page. The safe move is to keep a copy, so back up the mailbox.

Setting it up fresh? Sign in to Shaw Webmail, set the mode to Classic, then enter the shaw.ca servers in your app with the short username. That is the whole setup.

Planning to leave for good? Back up the mailbox first. ISP linked accounts can be closed after you cancel and there is no recovery once that happens.

Moving to Gmail or Outlook? The Univik Email Migration Tool copies every folder across. Enter imap.shaw.ca with the short username for the Shaw side and your new provider's settings for the other.

Rather not do it yourself? Our Email Migration Services team plans and runs the whole transfer for you and verifies every folder arrived.

Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#

The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete Shaw mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep forever, even if the account closes.

  1. Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
  2. Choose IMAP as the source and enter imap.shaw.ca with the short username.
  3. Sign in with the short username like john and your normal Shaw password. Shaw does not use app passwords.
  4. Confirm the server details: imap.shaw.ca with port 993 and SSL, from the IMAP table above.
  5. Pick a saving format and folder, then start the backup. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Why back up a Shaw mailbox: the brand is winding down and the mailbox is only 2 GB, so a full local copy is worth having. A full IMAP backup keeps every folder, attachment and date stamp in files any email app can open later. Moving to a new account instead? Use the email migration tool to copy mail directly.

Email Settings Glossary#

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.

POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device. On Shaw the POP host is pop.shaw.ca, on port 995 with SSL. Handy given the small 2 GB mailbox.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. On Shaw the send host is mail.shaw.ca on port 587, not smtp.shaw.ca.

SSL / TLS / STARTTLS

Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).

Classic Mode

A Shaw Webmail setting that must be on before an email app can use IMAP or POP. You switch it on from a computer, not a phone.

Short Username

On Shaw, the username is the part before @shaw.ca. Your email address stays the full address, but the username field takes only the front part.

How We Verify These Settings#

Univik builds email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. Our tools sign in to Shaw over the shaw.ca IMAP and SMTP servers every day, so a changed server, port or login rule shows up in our connection logs before most guides notice it.

Every value here is confirmed with 3 checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against the official Rogers and Shaw email pages and a real client setup test. We re verify after any change and at least once a quarter.

Found something that no longer matches what Rogers or Shaw shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use imap.shaw.ca on port 993 with SSL. Sign in with the part before @shaw.ca as the username, plus your normal Shaw password. The full table is in the IMAP settings section.

Two usual causes. The username may include @shaw.ca when Shaw wants only the part before it. Another cause is Classic mode being off in Shaw Webmail. Fix the short username and Classic mode and the login works.

No. Even though Rogers owns Shaw and shaw.ca redirects to rogers.com, the email still runs on the Shaw servers imap.shaw.ca and mail.shaw.ca. It is not Rogers Yahoo. What the takeover means.

Rogers has not announced closing existing Shaw mailboxes. Your @shaw.ca address still works. Since February 26, 2026, Rogers no longer creates new Shaw addresses. Keeping a backup is a sensible precaution.

No. Shaw uses your normal email password in mail apps. There is nothing extra to generate. Just enter the short username and your usual password. Turn on Classic mode first.

It is mail.shaw.ca on port 587 with STARTTLS, not smtp.shaw.ca. Use the same short username and normal password as incoming mail. Also tick outgoing authentication.

Connect a backup tool to imap.shaw.ca with the short username and it saves everything at once. See how to back up your Shaw mailbox as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF. If you already exported files, an email converter changes them to whatever your new app opens.

Two common Shaw causes. The username may still have the @shaw.ca on it. Another cause is Classic mode being switched off. Check what changed recently, then confirm both in your sign in settings.

An email migration tool copies mail directly over IMAP. Use imap.shaw.ca with the short username and your normal password for this side, plus the destination account details for the other. Every folder and date stays intact.

If setting this up feels risky or you have many accounts to move, our managed email migration service does the entire job for you.
