Quick answer: SaskTel splits incoming and outgoing across two hosts. Incoming is mail.sasktel.net on 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP3, each over SSL. Sending is smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL and authentication. Sign in with your full sasktel.net address and your SaskTel email password. An address left unused can go inactive.

Every setting on this page is verified with live IMAP and SMTP connections from Univik email software. We build email backup and converter tools since 2013, so we test against these servers every day. See what changed →

What Changed Recently#

SaskTel keeps incoming and outgoing mail on two hosts. Here is the current status and what a sasktel.net address needs today.

Worth knowing

Two hosts, one login. Incoming mail comes from mail.sasktel.net. Sending goes through smtp.sasktel.net. Both use your full sasktel.net address.

Worth knowing

Keep SSL on. IMAP is 993 and POP3 is 995 over SSL. Outgoing is 587 with SSL and authentication.

Worth knowing

SaskTel steers you to the secure ports. The older plain ports still answer, so turn SSL on to keep your login private.

Current status: sasktel.net email uses two hosts. Incoming is mail.sasktel.net on 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP3 over SSL. Outgoing is smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL. Sign in with your full address.

Before You Begin#

Handle these two basics before anything else. Skip them and your email app will reject the connection even when every server value is correct.

1. Create the mailbox

Incoming is mail.sasktel.net. Outgoing is smtp.sasktel.net. The ports are 993 or 995 in and 587 out.

2. Know your SaskTel password

The login is your full sasktel.net address. The password is your SaskTel email password.

About SaskTel#

SaskTel is Saskatchewan's telephone and internet company, a provincial Crown corporation. Its internet accounts include a sasktel.net email address.

SaskTel has served Saskatchewan for more than a century and provides home internet across the province. For email the setup uses two hosts. Incoming mail is fetched from mail.sasktel.net, while outgoing mail is sent through smtp.sasktel.net. You sign in to both with the same full address and SaskTel password.

Two hosts to remember: incoming mail.sasktel.net and outgoing smtp.sasktel.net. Keep SSL on for both.

SaskTel Webmail Login#

You can always read your mail in a browser. The official SaskTel pages are:

Watch out for fake support pages. Many pages ranking for email settings show a phone number and ask you to call for "expert setup help". SaskTel and Univik never ask you to call a number to enter server settings. Everything you need is free on this page.

Find Your Settings#

SaskTel uses two hosts and secure ports throughout. Incoming mail comes from mail.sasktel.net, so set that as your IMAP or POP server. Outgoing mail leaves through smtp.sasktel.net on 587.

  1. Open your email app and add a new account.
  2. Choose IMAP on 993 or POP3 on 995.
  3. Set incoming to mail.sasktel.net with SSL.
  4. Set outgoing to smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL.
Which host? Incoming is mail.sasktel.net for IMAP on 993 or POP3 on 995. Outgoing is smtp.sasktel.net on 587. Keep SSL on for both.

SaskTel IMAP Settings#

IMAP keeps a sasktel.net mailbox in sync. Mail stays on the server, so a laptop and a phone read one shared inbox. The incoming host is mail.sasktel.net over 993.

SaskTel POP3 Settings#

POP3 downloads mail to 1 device. Pick it only if you want a local copy on a single computer. Not sure? See the comparison below.

Careful with POP3 delete settings. Some clients remove mail from the server after download. Check "leave a copy on the server" if you still want mail in webmail.

SaskTel SMTP Settings#

Stay on the secure ports: SaskTel lists 993 for IMAP and 995 for POP3 over SSL. The plain ports 143, 110 and 25 still answer but send your login unencrypted, so keep SSL set.

SMTP handles outgoing mail. If you can read mail but not send it, the problem is here.

Nothing sending? Put sending on 587 with SSL. Many home connections block port 25. The host is smtp.sasktel.net. Confirm outgoing authentication is on with your full address.
Outgoing refused? smtp.sasktel.net needs authentication. Turn on outgoing authentication and use your full address with your password.

Check SaskTel Settings Online#

You don't need to download anything to check SaskTel settings online. This page is the lookup: every value is verified, current and copyable straight from your browser. Not sure your address is a sasktel.net one? Type it below to check in a moment.

Does my email address use these settings?

Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.

Want to verify the account itself before configuring an app? Sign in at sasktel.net Webmail, which confirms your address and password work. If webmail opens, any email app connects with the tables above.

Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#

This page covers SaskTel. For every other address, work email on a company domain included, we run a free online lookup database: imapsettings.com.

imapsettings.com

Complete email settings database, by Univik

Check IMAP settings online →

Enter any email address and get the incoming and outgoing server settings for that domain in 1 step:

Incoming server: hostname, port, SSL/TLS and username format
Outgoing server: SMTP hostname, port and encryption

Your address is used only to find the settings for that domain. Nothing is stored or shared.

Username and Password#

Both come from your SaskTel account. The username is your full sasktel.net address. The password is your SaskTel email password. There is no separate app password.

Username is the full address

Type your full sasktel.net address in, with the part after the at sign. A bare mailbox name is turned down.

Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.

Password is the mailbox one

This is your SaskTel email password, the same one that opens sasktel.net Webmail. Reset it from My SaskTel at sasktel.com if an app keeps refusing it.

SaskTel uses one password for webmail and for an email app, so there is nothing extra to generate.

Forgot the password? Open My SaskTel at sasktel.com and change the password there. Change it in each app after that.

Set Up SaskTel in Email Clients#

The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:

Outlook (Windows and Mac)

  1. In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
  2. Choose IMAP and set incoming to mail.sasktel.net on 993 with SSL.
  3. Set outgoing to smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL.
  4. Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
  5. Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.

Apple Mail (macOS)

  1. In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
  2. Give your name, sasktel.net address and password, then continue.
  3. Enter mail.sasktel.net for incoming and smtp.sasktel.net for outgoing.
  4. Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
  5. Save and wait for the mailbox to load.

iPhone and iPad

  1. In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
  2. Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
  3. Keep IMAP chosen and put mail.sasktel.net for incoming with smtp.sasktel.net for outgoing.
  4. Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since SaskTel expects SSL.
  5. Tap Save and let iOS run its check.

Android

  1. Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
  2. Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
  3. For incoming use mail.sasktel.net on 993 over SSL.
  4. For outgoing use smtp.sasktel.net on 587 over SSL.
  5. Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.

Thunderbird

  1. In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
  2. Type your name, sasktel.net address and password, then Continue.
  3. Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
  4. If detection fails, type mail.sasktel.net and smtp.sasktel.net in yourself.
  5. Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.

SaskTel Webmail Settings#

Server settings connect your apps. These controls decide how the mailbox behaves on the server. They live in sasktel.net Webmail, which you reach at sasktel.net.

Signature

Add one in the sasktel.net Webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from the browser. A desktop app keeps its own signature.

Vacation Auto Reply

Turn on a vacation reply in sasktel.net Webmail. The SaskTel server sends it, so it goes out even when your computer is off.

Filters and Folders

Build filters in sasktel.net Webmail. A server side rule sorts a message before any device downloads it. An in app rule only runs while that app is open.

Spam and Blocked Senders

SaskTel screens incoming mail for spam. Block unwanted senders in sasktel.net Webmail. Flagged mail lands in the spam folder for a look.

POP3 vs IMAP#

FeatureIMAPPOP3

Our verdict: pick IMAP unless you have a clear reason not to. For a permanent offline archive of your sasktel.net mailbox, a backup tool handles it better than plain POP3.

Troubleshooting SaskTel Connections#

Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Error you seeWhat it meansFix
Username or password rejected Short username or wrong password Use your full sasktel.net address with your SaskTel password. A bare mailbox name is turned down.
Cannot send on port 25 ISP blocks the default SMTP port Switch outgoing to smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL. Confirm outgoing authentication is on.
Incoming works but sending fails Wrong outgoing host or port Outgoing is smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL, not the incoming host. Turn on authentication and use your full address.
Old settings stopped connecting Plain ports are being used Move to the secure ports. Incoming mail.sasktel.net on 993 or 995 with SSL, outgoing smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL.
Cannot connect to server Wrong port or encryption Set 993 with SSL incoming and 587 with SSL outgoing. A firewall on your own machine can block it as well.
Repeated password prompt Short username or a typo Clear the saved login, then put in the full address with the mailbox password.
Messages stuck in Outbox SMTP authentication is off Enable "outgoing server requires authentication" with the same login as incoming mail.
Old sasktel.net address stopped working The account went inactive SaskTel can delete an account after six months without a login. If it was closed, call SaskTel within 30 days to restore it.
New SaskTel service has no email address New accounts do not include sasktel.net email SaskTel stopped issuing new sasktel.net addresses in 2022. Existing addresses still work. New customers use a free provider like Gmail or Outlook.

Reader Reported Fixes

Use the right host for each direction. Incoming is mail.sasktel.net. Outgoing is smtp.sasktel.net. Mixing them up is the usual cause of a setup that half works.

Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at sasktel.net Webmail with your address and password. If webmail opens, the credentials are right and the issue is in the app settings.

What Happens to an Unused Mailbox #

SaskTel treats a mailbox as inactive after six months without a login. An inactive sasktel.net account can be deleted automatically to keep the mail system running well.

If an account was closed, whether by you or through inactivity, SaskTel can bring it back for up to 30 days afterward. The restore returns your messages, folders, contacts and preferences as they stood at closure.

To keep a sasktel.net address alive, sign in every few months, from a mail app or from webmail. A single login resets the inactivity clock.

Moving Mail In or Out?#

SaskTel mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any standard account. Each folder stays on the server until the copy finishes.

Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

Carrying mail across? The Univik Email Migration Tool moves each folder over an IMAP link. Give it mail.sasktel.net with your SaskTel password on this side and the other account opposite.

Rather hand it off? Our Email Migration Services team runs the whole move and verifies each folder arrived.

Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#

The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete sasktel.net mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep forever, even if the account closes.

  1. Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
  2. Select SaskTel from the source list. If SaskTel is not listed, pick a plain IMAP account.
  3. Give the complete email address with your mailbox password. The login name is always the whole email address.
  4. When the backup tool wants server details, hand it mail.sasktel.net on port 993 with SSL. Take those values straight from the IMAP table above, with port 993 over SSL.
  5. Pick a saving format and folder, then start the backup. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Why back up before switching providers: POP3 only grabs the inbox and vacation replies to a closed account bounce. A full IMAP backup keeps every folder, attachment and date stamp in files any email app can open later. Moving to a new account instead of archiving? Use the email migration tool to copy mail directly between accounts.

Email Settings Glossary#

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.

POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.

SSL / TLS / STARTTLS

Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 587). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).

SaskTel Password

Your SaskTel email password, the same one that opens sasktel.net Webmail. Every mail app uses it. There is no separate app password.

mail.sasktel.net

The SaskTel incoming host. Your IMAP or POP client fetches mail from mail.sasktel.net on 993 or 995 over SSL.

smtp.sasktel.net

The SaskTel outgoing host. Sending goes through smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL and authentication.

sasktel.net Webmail

The SaskTel webmail address. Sign in at sasktel.net to read your mail in a browser.

SaskTel

Saskatchewan's telephone and internet company, a provincial Crown corporation. Its email domain is sasktel.net.

Two Hosts

SaskTel keeps incoming and outgoing on separate servers. Incoming is mail.sasktel.net and outgoing is smtp.sasktel.net.

Outgoing Authentication

SaskTel asks for your username and password when you send. Turn on My outgoing server requires authentication.

Secure Ports

SaskTel points you to 993, 995 and 587 with SSL. The plain ports still answer but send your login in the open.

Inactive Account

A sasktel.net mailbox with no login for six months. SaskTel can delete it to keep the mail system running well.

Restore Window

The 30 day period after a sasktel.net account closes when SaskTel can bring it back with its messages and folders.

Existing Accounts Only

SaskTel stopped giving out new sasktel.net addresses in 2022. The settings here apply to an address you already have.

How We Verify These Settings#

Univik builds email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. Our tools sign in to SaskTel over IMAP and SMTP every day for thousands of users, so a changed server, port or login rule shows up in our connection logs before most guides notice it.

Every value on this page is confirmed with three checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against the SaskTel guides and a sign in with a real mailbox using the full address. We re verify after any provider announcement and at least once a quarter.

Found something that no longer matches what SaskTel shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Incoming is mail.sasktel.net on 993 for IMAP or 995 for POP3, each over SSL. Sending is smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL and authentication. Sign in with your full sasktel.net address and your SaskTel email password. The IMAP settings section holds the full table.

Check the username first. It must be the complete address rather than the part before the at sign. Use your full sasktel.net address as the username, not the part before the at sign. The password is your SaskTel email password. Sending needs it too.

Both fetch from mail.sasktel.net. IMAP on 993 keeps mail on the server so every device matches. POP3 on 995 downloads it to one machine and can lose it if that machine fails. Full comparison here.

Yes. The server, ports and encryption match on iPhone, Android and Windows. Only the path to the settings screen shifts by app, which the client setup guides spell out.

Incoming and outgoing sit on separate hosts. Mail is fetched from mail.sasktel.net and sent through smtp.sasktel.net. The login is the same for both.

Yes. Keep SSL on both hosts so your sign in never travels in the open. SaskTel uses 993 or 995 for incoming and 587 for outgoing.

An email client with IMAP downloads mail as it syncs, but a dedicated backup tool is faster and saves standard files you can open anywhere. See how to back up your sasktel.net mailbox. If you already exported files in another format, an email converter changes them to PST, PDF or whatever your new app opens.

With SaskTel the usual cause is a plain port. Move incoming to mail.sasktel.net on 993 with SSL and outgoing to smtp.sasktel.net on 587 with SSL. Confirm outgoing authentication is on.

A migration tool copies mail across the two accounts on an IMAP link. Give the SaskTel IMAP settings with your password on this side and the destination details on the other. Each folder lands with its dates intact.

If setting this up feels risky or you have many accounts to move, our managed email migration service does the entire job for you.

SaskTel can delete a mailbox after six months with no login. If an account closes, SaskTel can restore it for up to 30 days, with the messages, folders and contacts it held. Sign in every few months to keep an address active. The unused mailbox section covers this.
