About Walla Mail#
Walla is one of the largest web portals in Israel. A personal address ends in walla.co.il and reads in Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird over IMAP, once you switch IMAP on in the Walla account.
The incoming host is in.walla.co.il and the outgoing host is out.walla.co.il, so watch the names rather than reaching for imap or smtp. The username is your full Walla address with your account password. The outgoing server needs authentication.

Turn On IMAP in Your Walla Account#
Walla keeps IMAP off until you switch it on, so a mail program cannot connect straight away. Open your Walla account, find the mail-on-mobile settings, then turn the IMAP service on. Walla reads over IMAP only, so there is no POP3 to fall back on.

Walla Has No POP3#
Walla reads in a client over IMAP only. There is no POP3 host, so a client set to POP will not connect. Set the account type to IMAP and read on in.walla.co.il on 993 with SSL instead, which keeps mail on the server and shows the same inbox on every device.
Because Walla is IMAP only, there is also no way to pull mail down and store it on one device the way POP does. Mail stays on the Walla server, so a phone and a computer read the same inbox at once.

Username and Password#
Both come from the mailbox itself. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one you chose when you built the address in Walla. A standard Walla mailbox uses no Walla password.
Username is the full address
Type you@walla.co.il in full, with the part after the at sign. Walla turns down a bare mailbox name.
Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.
Password is the mailbox one
This is the webmail password you set under your mail settings in Walla, not your Walla client area login. Reset it there if an app keeps refusing it.

Set Up Walla in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
- Choose IMAP and set incoming to
in.walla.co.ilon 993 with SSL. - Set outgoing to the same server on 587 with SSL.
- Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
- Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
- Give your name, Walla address and password, then continue.
- Enter in.walla.co.il with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
- Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
- Save and wait for the mailbox to load.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
- Keep IMAP chosen and put in.walla.co.il in both server boxes.
- Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since Walla expects SSL.
- Tap Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
- Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
- For incoming use in.walla.co.il on 993 over SSL.
- For outgoing use out.walla.co.il on 587 over SSL.
- Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
- Type your name, Walla address and password, then Continue.
- Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
- If detection fails, type in.walla.co.il in yourself.
- Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.

Add one in the webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from webmail. A desktop app keeps a signature of its own.

Set an autoresponder in Walla and give it start and end dates. The Walla server delivers it, so it fires even when your machine is off.
Filters and Folders
Create filters from the Walla webmail filters in Walla. A server side rule sorts a message ahead of any device fetching it. A rule set inside an app only works while that app is running.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Walla runs SpamAssassin on incoming mail. Set the threshold and block unwanted senders in Walla. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.

Reader Reported Fixes
Copy from turning IMAP on. When a manual setup will not connect, the turning IMAP on page in Walla prints the exact server name and ports for that mailbox. Pasting those in clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.
Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webin.walla.co.il with the full address and mailbox password. If webmail works, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.
The Walla Host Names Are in and out#
Walla uses one fixed pair of hosts for every address, in.walla.co.il for incoming and out.walla.co.il for outgoing. The catch is that a mail program fills the server in from your address, so it reaches for imap.walla.co.il or smtp.walla.co.il, which Walla does not run. Type the in and out hosts in by hand.
The pair does not follow your address. An older walla.com address uses the very same in.walla.co.il and out.walla.co.il, not in.walla.com, so keep the co.il ending on the host even when the address does not carry it. Read on in.walla.co.il on 993 with SSL and send on out.walla.co.il on 587 with SSL. Turn outgoing authentication on. Once the hosts are right, the login is your full address with your Walla password.

Walla mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any Walla account. Each folder stays on the server until the move finishes.
Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Use out.walla.co.il on 587 with SSL and authentication on, signing in with your Walla address.

Enable IMAP
A switch in the Walla account. IMAP is off until you turn it on, under the mail-on-mobile settings, so a client cannot connect before you do.

Full Walla Address
Your username is the whole address, such as you@walla.co.il. Type it in full on the incoming and the outgoing server.

The encryption Walla needs. Turn SSL on, then set 993 for IMAP and 587 for SMTP, so both connections stay private.
Server Requires Authentication
