When a Marg table file is corrupt, the vendor tells users to copy the folder, set the damaged file aside and restore a backup.
That returns the books to the backup date and loses later entries. To see those entries, read a copy of the damaged folder with recovery software that labels each row by how far it can be trusted.
The balances stop adding up, or the company will not open at all. A backup exists but it is from last week, and restoring it would wipe every bill since. The question is how to see what the damaged files still hold before you decide. Once the restore runs there is no second look.
Who Needs to Get Entries Out of Corrupted Marg Data?
What state is your data in? Choose a card and read on from there.
Balances do not match or the company will not open. The vendor advice is to move the file out of the way and restore a backup.
See the vendor fix →A restore would erase everything entered since. You want a way to read those entries before you decide.
Read the gap →Every backup is bad or missing, so the table files in the damaged folder are the only source left and they have to give up whatever they still hold.
See what can be read →A power cut, a failing disk or a bad copy can damage a table file. The company then refuses to open or the balances stop adding up. The vendor has a fixed answer for this and it works when a recent backup exists. When it does not, the answer costs real work. This guide is about that case.
What Does Marg Care Tell You to Do?
The article on the Order file gives eight steps. We list them in plain order because the first one is the one most people skip, and it is the one that makes every other step reversible.
- Copy the Marg folderDo it for safety before any change.
- Find the fileOpen the Data folder and search for its name.
- Read the extensionIt identifies the damaged financial year.
- Set the file asideDelete it or rename it so the software cannot use it.
- Start and exitPress Esc at the gateway, choose save and quit, then Yes.
- Choose the backupPick the financial year or company in the backup window.
- RestorePoint to the backup you want to use.
- Open File maintenanceStart the software and run it from the gateway.
Note: the same article says the steps also apply to ledger balance mismatches. A restore failure has its own cause list, which this guide covers.
What Does a Restore Cost You?
It returns the books to the day of the backup, and every entry made after that day is gone. A business that backs up weekly can lose a week of bills and receipts. Our view is that the loss is the real cost of this fix, and it is the part nobody can see until the restore has run.
Limitations of the vendor route: it needs a backup that is itself healthy, it rolls the books back to the backup date and it gives you no way to read the entries made since.
Which route should you choose? If the backup is from today and the damage is new, restore and move on. If the backup is days old, read the damaged copy first and restore afterwards. If there is no backup at all, the damaged copy is the only route.
| Situation | Restore alone | Restore plus reading the damaged copy |
|---|---|---|
| Backup from last night | Loses about a day of entries | Rarely needed |
| Backup from last week | Loses a week of entries | Lists what can still be read from that week |
| No backup that opens | Nothing to restore | The only way to see the records |
How Does Univik Marg Data Recovery Software Read a Damaged Folder?
Univik Marg Data Recovery Software sits inside Univik Marg Data Recovery Toolkit. It walks each table file up to the point where the file stops making sense and keeps the rows before that.
We damaged copies of real Marg table files in 178 ways and measured what came back: 96.9% of records on average, with rows wrongly shown as healthy falling from 3,004 to 2 after the recovery layer, and no crash in any scenario. A file cut at 60% keeps about 60%. What's physically gone stays gone, and the labels say so.
Figures are tested against rules that all books obey: a balance equals opening plus debit minus credit, and a voucher balances. Where the rules prove a missing figure, it rebuilds it. Where they do not, it flags the row and leaves it to you.
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Healthy | Read as stored |
| Suspect | Read, but a check disagrees |
| Partial | Only part of the row survived |
| Realigned | Moved back into place after bytes were added or lost |
| Repaired | A figure rebuilt from rules and other tables |
| Inferred | Worked out from evidence and open to doubt |
A tie between two possible values is never resolved by guessing. The row is marked and the choice stays with you, which is slower than a tool that fills in a number and far safer. The recovery page lists the damage types the software handles and the ones it does not.
Univik Marg Data Recovery Software reads a duplicate only and stamps a trust label on each row.

How to Get Entries Out of Corrupted Marg Data
- Stop work and copy the folderShut Marg on every PC. Put a copy of the install folder on a second drive, which is what Marg Care asks for before any repair. Every later step uses that copy.
- Find the damaged fileSearch the Data folder for the file named in the error, such as order. Read its extension to see the company letter and the period slot.
- Restore the latest good backupIf a backup exists, restore it through the exit prompt in a clean install. This gives Marg a company it can open, up to the backup date.
- Read the damaged copy for the gapUse setup-marg-data-recovery-toolkit.exe to install on Windows 11 or 10. Open the copy of the damaged Data folder and let the software salvage what survives.
- Review the labels and re-keyGo through the rows made after the backup date. Check repaired and inferred rows against paper records. Enter the confirmed ones in Marg again.
- You worked on a duplicate and the first folder was never opened for writing
- Each repaired or inferred row was checked against a paper record
- Totals for the recovered period match a report printed earlier
- You kept a note of which rows were re-entered and from which label

Fix Common Problems After Marg Data Corruption
Do this: Take a fresh financial year backup, then delete temporary and CDX files and restore again, as Marg Care advises for the restore alert. Keep a copy first.
Do this: Open the recovered accounts and look at the labels. Rows marked suspect or inferred are the first place to check.
Do this: Rows inside a zeroed sector cannot return. Check older backups and the second drive for another copy of the same files.
