What Changed When Telia Left#
Telia handed inet.fi and online.ee to Fjordmail. The address stayed the same, so most setups keep working. Here is what to know.
The catch
The mailbox now needs a paid subscription. After the handover the mail became a paid Fjordmail service. Without an active subscription the mailbox is closed.

Your address and password carried over. You keep your inet.fi or online.ee address and any aliases. The same password signs you in.

Before You Begin#
Handle these two basics first. Miss them and your email app will reject the connection even when the ports are right.
1. Keep the subscription active
These are paid Fjordmail mailboxes now. A lapsed subscription closes the mailbox and the app cannot sign in.
2. Use the full address on mail.inet.fi
The username is your whole address on mail.inet.fi, with your Fjordmail password, SSL on.

About Fjordmail#
Fjordmail is the email service that now runs inet.fi in Finland and online.ee in Estonia, along with other former Telia mailboxes. Telia stepped out of the email business and handed these addresses to Fjordmail, a Norwegian provider that keeps old telco mail running. Your address and password did not change, so an email app connects the same way it always did.
For inet.fi mail the server is mail.inet.fi, reached over IMAP on 993 or POP3 on 995, with outgoing SMTP on 465, each on SSL. The username is your full address and the password is the one you use for the Fjordmail webmail. Online.ee mail sits on the same Fjordmail platform. There is one catch that trips people up, covered in the next section.

Your Telia Mail Now Lives at Fjordmail#
The one thing to understand about these addresses is who runs them now. Telia decided to stop offering email and passed inet.fi, online.ee and its other Telia mailboxes to Fjordmail, a Norwegian company that specialises in taking over telco email so people keep their address. You did not have to move anything. The address, the aliases and the password all carried across. The servers answer on the same mail.inet.fi name.
What did change is the billing. The mail used to be free because Telia paid for it. Fjordmail is a separate company, so it runs the mail as a paid subscription. If a subscription is active the mailbox works in any email app exactly as before. If it lapses the mailbox is closed, so the subscription is the thing to keep an eye on, not the server settings.

Username and Password#

Set Up Fjordmail in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
- Choose IMAP and set incoming to
mail.inet.fion 993 with SSL. - Set outgoing to the same server on 465 with SSL.
- Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
- Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
- Give your name, Fjordmail address and password, then continue.
- Enter mail.inet.fi with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
- Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
- Save and wait for the mailbox to load.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
- Keep IMAP chosen and put mail.inet.fi in both server boxes.
- Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since Fjordmail expects SSL.
- Tap Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
- Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
- For incoming use mail.inet.fi on 993 over SSL.
- For outgoing use mail.inet.fi on 465 over SSL.
- Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
- Type your name, Fjordmail address and password, then Continue.
- Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
- If detection fails, type mail.inet.fi in yourself.
- Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.
Fjordmail Webmail Settings#
Server settings connect your apps. The controls here shape how the mailbox acts on its own. They live in Fjordmail webmail, at webmail.inet.fi.
Signature
Add one in the webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from webmail. A desktop app keeps a signature of its own.
Vacation Auto Reply
Set an autoresponder in the Fjordmail webmail and give it start and end dates. The Fjordmail server delivers it, so it fires even when your machine is off.
Filters and Folders
Create filters in the Fjordmail webmail. A server side rule sorts a message ahead of any device fetching it. A rule set inside an app only works while that app is running.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Fjordmail filters spam on incoming mail. Adjust the settings and block unwanted senders in the Fjordmail webmail. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.

Fjordmail Sending and Storage Limits#
A few limits are worth knowing before you bulk forward or move a mailbox. On shared plans Fjordmail caps outbound mail to protect the server reputation:

Troubleshooting Fjordmail Connections#
Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Reader Reported Fixes
Copy from Set Up Mail Client. When a manual setup will not connect, the Fjordmail webmail settings show the exact server name and ports for that mailbox. Pasting those in clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.
Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webmail.inet.fi with the full address and mailbox password. If webmail works, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.
Not Every Telia Mailbox Moved to Fjordmail#
The handover to Fjordmail covered the telco addresses: inet.fi, online.ee and Telia Mail. If that is the kind of address you have, your mail moved and this page is for you. One group was left out. The difference catches people by surprise.
If you ran email on your own custom domain through Telia, that mailbox was not passed to Fjordmail. Telia stated on its own pages that own-domain email would not transfer and would end, with notice given ahead of time. So subscribing to Fjordmail does not bring a custom-domain address back. Those users had to arrange a new email host before the cut-off.

Fjordmail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any standard account. Each folder stays on the server until the move finishes.
Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on mail.inet.fi, so a phone and a computer show the same inbox. Port 993 with SSL.
POP3
Post Office Protocol. Downloads mail from mail.inet.fi to one device. Port 995 with SSL. IMAP suits most people better.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail on mail.inet.fi, port 465 with SSL and authentication.

The Fjordmail server for inet.fi addresses. It handles IMAP, POP3 and SMTP, each on its SSL port.
Fjordmail
