About Telenor Online Mail#
Telenor is Norway largest telecom and its former national operator. Online was its internet brand. The online.no domain is the email service it still runs.
Telenor grew out of the Norwegian state telecom and runs the Online e-post service on online.no. The point to remember is that one host, mail.online.no, answers for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP alike, but an email app first needs third-party access enabled on Mine Sider. You log in with the part before @online.no and your Online password.

Your username is the part before @online.no, up to 8 characters. Your password is the Online password you set on Telenor Mine Sider. There is no separate app password, though app access must be enabled on Mine Sider.

Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.
Password is the mailbox one
This is your Online password, set on Telenor Mine Sider. Webmail signs in with Telenor ID instead, so an email app uses the Online password.

Set Up Telenor Online in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
- Choose IMAP and set incoming to
mail.online.noon 993 with SSL. - Set outgoing to the same server on 465 with SSL.
- Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
- Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
- Give your name, online.no address and Online password, then continue.
- Enter mail.online.no with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
- Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
- Save and wait for the mailbox to load.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
- Keep IMAP chosen and put mail.online.no in both server boxes.
- Set the username to the part before @online.no, since Telenor expects that form.
- Tap Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
- Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
- For incoming use mail.online.no on 993 over SSL.
- For outgoing use mail.online.no on 465 over SSL.
- Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
- Type your name, online.no address and Online password, then Continue.
- Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
- If detection fails, type mail.online.no in yourself for both.
- Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.
Online Webmail Settings#
Server settings connect your apps. These controls decide how the mailbox behaves on the server. They live in Online webmail at online.no, where you sign in with Telenor ID.
Signature
Add one in the online.no webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from the browser. A desktop app keeps its own signature.
Vacation Auto Reply
Turn on an out of office reply in online.no webmail. The server sends it, so it goes out even when your computer is off.
Filters and Folders
Build filters in online.no webmail under settings. A server side rule sorts a message before any device downloads it. An in app rule only runs while that app is open.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Telenor screens incoming mail for spam. Adjust the spam settings in online.no webmail. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.

Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Reader Reported Fixes
Enable app access before anything else. The most common Online failure is a correct password that still will not connect. That means third-party email programs are switched off on Mine Sider. Turn the toggle on first.
Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at online.no with your Telenor ID. If webmail opens, the account is fine and the issue is app access or the app settings.
Webmail and Apps Log In Differently #
Telenor Online splits its login in two. The split changed in late 2025. When you open webmail at telenor.no/online, you sign in with your Telenor ID, the same account that opens Mine Sider. Since 11 November 2025 that is the only way into webmail. The older username and password no longer open the browser inbox.
Email programs are the exception. Outlook, Apple Mail and Gmail still use the older login. The username is the part before @online.no, up to 8 characters. The password is the email account password. You do not sign an email program in with Telenor ID.
The two passwords come from one place. You set or change the email account password on Mine Sider, where you are already signed in with Telenor ID. Webmail login carries two-factor security, while an email program does not, so Telenor recommends webmail for day to day reading.

Telenor Online speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any standard account. Each folder stays on the server until the copy finishes.
Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.
SMTP
The protocol for sending mail. On Telenor Online the outgoing host is mail.online.no on port 465 with SSL. Port 587 with SSL or TLS also works. Authentication is required.
SSL and TLS
The encryption Telenor Online uses. Incoming runs over SSL on 993 or 995. Outgoing runs over SSL on 465 or TLS on 587.
Online Password
The password for your online.no mailbox in an email app. Set or change it on Telenor Mine Sider. Webmail signs in with Telenor ID instead.
App Access Toggle
The permission on Telenor Mine Sider that lets Outlook, Apple Mail or Gmail reach your online.no mailbox. It must be on before any app connects.
