YouSee Email Settings: Now the Home of TDC Mail

Every server value for YouSee Mail in Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or your phone. The old TDC Mail now runs on YouSee, so a mail.dk, tdc.dk or privat.dk address uses these same servers. Copy each value with 1 tap.

YouSee Quick Settings

IMAP Server imap.yousee.dk
IMAP Port 993 (SSL/TLS)
SMTP Server asmtp.yousee.dk
SMTP Port 587 (STARTTLS) / 465 (SSL)
POP3 Server pop3.yousee.dk
Username Your full email address

Quick answer: YouSee email runs on Mit YouSee. Every protocol connects to imap.yousee.dk. IMAP is on 993, POP3 on 995 and SMTP on 587, each secured with SSL. Your username is the full address and the mailbox password you set in Mit YouSee lets you in. Your exact values also sit under your YouSee mail settings in Mit YouSee. Sending from another address? Read this.

Every setting on this page is verified with live IMAP and SMTP connections from Univik email software. We build email backup and converter tools since 2013, so we test against these servers every day. See what changed →

What Changed Recently#

A host changes how you sign in more often than it changes the server names. Here is the current status for YouSee and what it means for your setup.

Worth knowing

Use the entire address to log in. YouSee turns down a bare mailbox name. Put you@yousee.dk on both incoming and outgoing.

Worth knowing

TDC Mail now lives on YouSee. A tdc.dk, mail.dk or privat.dk address uses the YouSee servers rather than the old TDC ones. The address you send from stays the same.

Worth knowing

The servers answer to two names. imap.yousee.dk and imap.mail.dk reach the same inbox. The outgoing asmtp.yousee.dk pairs with asmtp.mail.dk. Use whichever matches your address.

Current status: incoming mail uses imap.yousee.dk over SSL on 993. POP3 uses pop3.yousee.dk on 995. Outgoing uses asmtp.yousee.dk on 587 with STARTTLS. The whole address is the login and the YouSee mail password lets you in.

Before You Begin#

Handle these two basics before anything else. Skip them and your email app will reject the connection even when every server value is correct.

1. Create the mailbox

Add the address under your mail settings in Mit YouSee and set its password. That password is the one your apps use.

Where: Mit YouSee then your mail settings

2. Open your YouSee mail settings

Click Mit YouSee next to the address, then your YouSee mail settings to read the server name and secure ports.

About YouSee Mail#

YouSee is the consumer email brand of TDC, Denmark's long standing telecom. It now runs under Nuuday. When TDC retired its own TDC Mail, those addresses moved to YouSee, so a mail.dk or tdc.dk mailbox lives on the same platform as a yousee.dk one.

The servers carry the YouSee name rather than the address. Incoming mail arrives on imap.yousee.dk. POP users can read from pop3.yousee.dk instead. Outgoing mail leaves through asmtp.yousee.dk. You sign in with your full address and your YouSee mail password, which is set in Mit YouSee.

One platform, many domains: whether your address ends in yousee.dk, mail.dk, tdc.dk or privat.dk, it uses imap.yousee.dk for incoming mail and asmtp.yousee.dk for outgoing. The ports and the password stay the same.

YouSee Webmail Login#

You can always read your mail in a browser. The official sign in pages are:

Watch out for fake support pages. Many pages ranking for email settings show a phone number and ask you to call for "expert setup help". YouSee and Univik never ask you to call a number to enter server settings. Everything you need is free on this page.

Find Your Settings#

IMAP is ready the moment a mailbox exists, so nothing needs switching on. To read the exact values for one address, YouSee lists them inside Mit YouSee.

  1. Log in to Mit YouSee from your YouSee client area.
  2. Open your mail settings in the Email section.
  3. Click Mit YouSee beside your address, then your YouSee mail settings.
  4. Pick your app or read the manual settings for the server name and secure ports.
Server name or imap.yousee.dk? Both reach the same mailbox. For a clean SSL connection use the server hostname from that screen, since it matches the certificate before your own domain SSL is in place.

YouSee IMAP Settings#

IMAP is the incoming choice YouSee points most people to. Mail stays put on the server, so a laptop and a phone read one shared inbox. Pull the exact server name from your YouSee mail settings in Mit YouSee.

YouSee POP3 Settings#

POP3 downloads mail to 1 device. Pick it only if you want a local copy on a single computer. Not sure? See the comparison below.

Careful with POP3 delete settings. Some clients remove mail from the server after download. Check "leave a copy on the server" if you still want mail in webmail.

YouSee SMTP Settings#

Stay on the secure ports: YouSee lists 993 for IMAP and 995 for POP3 over SSL. The plain ports 143 and 110 exist but send your login unencrypted, so keep SSL set.

SMTP handles outgoing mail. If you can read mail but not send it, the problem is here.

SMTP Serverasmtp.yousee.dk

Port (STARTTLS)587
EncryptionSSL or STARTTLS (required)
UsernameYour full email address

AuthenticationRequired. Switch on outgoing server authentication in the client.
Nothing sending? Put sending on 587 with SSL. Many home connections block port 25. YouSee also supports 587 and 26 if 587 is blocked. Confirm outgoing authentication is on.
Name warning? Keep asmtp.yousee.dk as the outgoing server. That host matches the certificate, so the alert clears.

Check YouSee IMAP Settings Online#

You don't need to download anything to check YouSee IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup: every value is verified, current and copyable straight from your browser. Not sure your address uses YouSee servers? Type it below and find out instantly.

Does my email address use these settings?

Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.

Want to verify the account itself before configuring an app? Sign in at YouSee webmail, which confirms your address and password work, then confirm an mail password exists. If both pass, any email app connects with the tables above.

Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#

This page covers YouSee. For every other address, work email on a company domain included, we run a free online lookup database: imapsettings.com.

imapsettings.com

Complete email settings database, by Univik

Check IMAP settings online →

Enter any email address and get the incoming and outgoing server settings for that domain in 1 step:

Incoming server: hostname, port, SSL/TLS and username format
Outgoing server: SMTP hostname, port and encryption

Your address is used only to find the settings for that domain. Nothing is stored or shared.

Username and Password#

Both come from the mailbox itself. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one you chose when you built the address in Mit YouSee. A standard YouSee mailbox uses no mail password.

Username is the full address

Type you@yousee.dk in full, with the part after the at sign. YouSee turns down a bare mailbox name.

Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.

Password is the mailbox one

This is the webmail password you set under your mail settings in Mit YouSee, not your YouSee client area login. Reset it there if an app keeps refusing it.

The two factor prompt in the YouSee client area guards billing, not the mailbox connection.

Forgot the password? Head to your mail settings in Mit YouSee, locate the address, click Manage and enter a new password. Change it in each app after that.

Set Up YouSee in Email Clients#

The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:

Outlook (Windows and Mac)

  1. In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
  2. Choose IMAP and set incoming to imap.yousee.dk on 993 with SSL.
  3. Set outgoing to the same server on 587 with SSL.
  4. Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
  5. Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.

Apple Mail (macOS)

  1. In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
  2. Give your name, YouSee address and password, then continue.
  3. Enter imap.yousee.dk with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
  4. Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
  5. Save and wait for the mailbox to load.

iPhone and iPad

  1. In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
  2. Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
  3. Keep IMAP chosen and put imap.yousee.dk in both server boxes.
  4. Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since YouSee expects SSL.
  5. Tap Save and let iOS run its check.

Android

  1. Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
  2. Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
  3. For incoming use imap.yousee.dk on 993 over SSL.
  4. For outgoing use imap.yousee.dk on 587 over SSL.
  5. Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.

Thunderbird

  1. In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
  2. Type your name, YouSee address and password, then Continue.
  3. Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
  4. If detection fails, type imap.yousee.dk in yourself.
  5. Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.

YouSee Webmail Settings#

Server settings connect your apps. The controls here shape how the mailbox acts on its own. They live in YouSee Webmail, opened from yousee.dk in any browser.

Signature

Add one in the webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from webmail. A desktop app keeps a signature of its own.

Vacation Auto Reply

Set an autoresponder in Mit YouSee and give it start and end dates. The YouSee server delivers it, so it fires even when your machine is off.

Filters and Folders

Create filters from the webmail filters in Mit YouSee. A server side rule sorts a message ahead of any device fetching it. A rule set inside an app only works while that app is running.

Spam and Blocked Senders

YouSee runs SpamAssassin on incoming mail. Set the threshold and block unwanted senders in Mit YouSee. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.

POP3 vs IMAP#

FeatureIMAPPOP3
Where mail livesOn the YouSee serverDownloaded to 1 device
Multiple devices✅ Everything stays in sync❌ Each device sees different mail
Sent and deleted mail✅ Synced everywhere⚠️ Stays only on that device
Offline reading⚠️ Cached mail only✅ Full local copy
Server storage usedYes, counts against your quotaCan be freed after download
Best forPhone + computer, everyday useSingle PC, local archives
Our verdict: pick IMAP unless you have a clear reason not to. If you want a permanent offline archive of your YouSee mailbox, a backup tool does that job better than POP3.

Troubleshooting YouSee Connections#

Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Error you seeWhat it meansFix
Username or password rejected Short username or wrong password Use the full email address with the mailbox password from Mit YouSee, not the client area login.
Cannot send on port 25 ISP blocks the default SMTP port Switch outgoing to 587 with SSL. YouSee also accepts 587 and 26 if 587 is blocked.
A mail.dk server name will not connect The port or encryption is wrong imap.mail.dk and asmtp.mail.dk are the same servers as the yousee.dk names. Use 993 with SSL for incoming and 587 with STARTTLS for outgoing.
The app rejects a password that works on the website The mail password differs from the Mit YouSee login The mailbox has its own password from when the mail was created. Open Mit YouSee, change the mail password, then enter that one in the app.
Cannot connect to server Wrong port or encryption Set 993 with SSL incoming and 587 with SSL outgoing. A firewall on your own machine can block it as well.
Repeated password prompt Short username or a typo Clear the saved login, then put in the full address with the mailbox password.
Messages stuck in Outbox SMTP authentication is off Enable "outgoing server requires authentication" with the same login as incoming mail.
554 Sender address rejected when I send The From line is not an address this mailbox owns asmtp.yousee.dk only sends from the YouSee or TDC address you signed in as. Set the From line to that address. If you need your other address, forward it into the YouSee inbox and send from there.
Cannot send from my own domain through YouSee YouSee closed outside-domain sending YouSee no longer relays mail from a domain it does not host. Keep that address on the From line and switch the outgoing server to the one your domain provider gives you. YouSee support does not set up third-party servers.

Reader Reported Fixes

Copy from your YouSee mail settings. When a manual setup will not connect, the your YouSee mail settings page in Mit YouSee prints the exact server name and ports for that mailbox. Pasting those in clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.

Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webimap.yousee.dk with the full address and mailbox password. If webmail works, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.

The Sender Address YouSee Will Accept #

YouSee's outgoing server accepts mail only from an address that the mailbox owns. When you sign in to asmtp.yousee.dk, the server checks the From line against your login. If the two do not match, it turns the message away rather than sending it.

The rejection shows up as a 554 or 550 error, often reading Sender address rejected or sending non-local domain not allowed. It happens most when the From line is set to a different provider's address or to your own domain. YouSee has closed the option to send from an outside domain through its server, so those messages stop here.

You have two ways round it. The first is to send from the YouSee or TDC address that the mailbox actually is, then forward your other address into that inbox so replies still reach you. The second is to leave the From line as your outside address and switch the outgoing server to the one that address belongs to. Either way, the sending server and the From line need to match.

From address you setWhat YouSee does
A YouSee or TDC address the mailbox ownsAccepted
A YouSee address on a different mailboxRejected, sign in as that mailbox
Your own custom domainRejected, use that domain's server
A different provider's addressRejected, use their outgoing server
Error 554 5.7.1Sender address rejected
Error 550 5.1.8Sending non-local domain not allowed

Moving Mail In or Out?#

YouSee mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any Mit YouSee account. Each folder stays on the server until the move finishes.

Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

Carrying mail across? The Univik Email Migration Tool moves each folder over an IMAP link. Give it the YouSee server name and mailbox password on this side and the other account opposite.

Rather hand it off? Our Email Migration Services team runs the whole move and verifies each folder arrived.

Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#

The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete YouSee mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep forever, even if the account closes.

  1. Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
  2. Select YouSee from the source list. If it isn't listed by name, choose IMAP.
  3. Give the complete email address with your mailbox password. The login name is always the whole email address.
  4. When the backup tool wants server details, hand it imap.yousee.dk on port 993 with SSL for YouSee. Take those values straight from the IMAP table above, with port 993 over SSL.
  5. Pick a saving format and folder, then start the backup. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Why back up before switching providers: POP3 only grabs the inbox and vacation replies to a closed account bounce. A full IMAP backup keeps every folder, attachment and date stamp in files any email app can open later. Moving to a new account instead of archiving? Use the email migration tool to copy mail directly between accounts.

Email Settings Glossary#

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the YouSee server, so every device shows the same inbox. Use imap.yousee.dk on port 993.

POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to one device and can clear it from the server. Use pop3.yousee.dk on port 995 if you prefer POP.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail through asmtp.yousee.dk on port 587. The a in asmtp marks the authenticated server, which needs your login.

SSL / STARTTLS

Encryption for the connection. IMAP and POP3 use SSL on 993 and 995. Outgoing mail uses STARTTLS on 587, with SSL on 465 as an alternative.

imap.yousee.dk

The incoming server for YouSee Mail. It also answers as imap.mail.dk, so both names reach the same inbox on port 993 with SSL.

asmtp.yousee.dk

The outgoing server for YouSee Mail on port 587 with STARTTLS. It requires a login, so asmtp.mail.dk points to the same place.

mail.dk

A long running TDC webmail domain now run by YouSee. A mail.dk address uses the same servers as a yousee.dk one.

TDC Mail

The old name for what is now YouSee Mail. TDC addresses such as tdc.dk, privat.dk and tdcadsl.dk moved onto the YouSee platform.

Mit YouSee

The YouSee account area where you manage your subscription and change your mail password. Reach it at mit.yousee.dk.

YouSee Mail Password

The password for the mailbox itself, chosen when the mail was created. You change it in Mit YouSee, so it can differ from your Mit YouSee login.

YouSee Webmail

The browser view of your mail, opened from yousee.dk without any server setup. Handy for a quick check or when an app will not connect.

Full Email Address

Your username for every server is the whole address, such as navn@yousee.dk or navn@mail.dk, not just the part before the at sign.

Sender Address

The From line on a message. YouSee checks it against your login, so it needs to be an address the mailbox owns.

554 5.7.1 PF_AUTH

The error YouSee returns when the From line does not match the mailbox you signed in as. It means the sender address was rejected.

Outgoing Server Match

The rule that the sending server and the From address belong together. To send from another domain, use that domain's own outgoing server.

How We Verify These Settings#

Univik builds email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. Our tools sign in to YouSee over IMAP and SMTP every day for thousands of users, so a changed server, port or login rule shows up in our connection logs before most guides notice it.

Every value on this page is confirmed with three checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against the YouSee guides and a sign in with a real mailbox using the full address. We re verify after any provider announcement and at least once a quarter.

Found something that no longer matches what YouSee shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

 Help & Support

Frequently Asked Questions

For incoming mail use imap.yousee.dk on port 993 with SSL. The username is your full address, such as navn@yousee.dk. The password is your YouSee mail password from Mit YouSee. A mail.dk address uses imap.mail.dk, which is the same server. The IMAP section has the full walkthrough.

The YouSee mail password is set separately from your Mit YouSee login, so the two can differ. If the app refuses a password that works on the website, open Mit YouSee and change the mail password, then enter that one in the app. Also check that the username is the whole address.

IMAP suits most people. It keeps mail on the YouSee server, so every phone and computer shows the same inbox. POP3 on pop3.yousee.dk downloads mail to one device and can clear it from the server, which suits a single machine that keeps a local archive.

Yes. The server names and ports are identical everywhere. On a phone you pick IMAP or POP, then enter imap.yousee.dk for incoming and asmtp.yousee.dk for outgoing. Only the menu wording differs between apps.

The same ones. When TDC Mail moved to YouSee, addresses like mail.dk, tdc.dk, privat.dk and tdcadsl.dk kept working on the YouSee servers. Use imap.yousee.dk for incoming and asmtp.yousee.dk for outgoing, with your full address as the username.

Yes. YouSee supports IMAP, POP3 and SMTP over encrypted connections, which is what these apps use. Keep SSL on for incoming and STARTTLS on for outgoing. Never send your password over an unencrypted port.

Add the account to a desktop app over IMAP so the folders sync, then let it finish downloading. In Thunderbird or Outlook you can then export a folder to a local file. For a plain backup, POP3 with a copy left on the server pulls everything down too.

The most common cause is a password change. If you reset the YouSee mail password in Mit YouSee, every device needs the new one. Another cause is an app that quietly switched to an unencrypted port, so confirm 993 for incoming and 587 for outgoing with encryption on.

No. The old TDC Mail is now YouSee Mail, so the sign in is at yousee.dk rather than tdcmail.com. Your tdc.dk, mail.dk or privat.dk address still works there on the YouSee servers. Bookmark yousee.dk/yousee-mail to reach the right page.

YouSee's outgoing server accepts a From line only when it is an address the mailbox owns. Send from your own domain or another provider's address and it returns a 554 or 550 error. To fix it, send from your YouSee or TDC address and forward the other one into that inbox. The alternative is to keep your outside address and use the outgoing server of the provider it belongs to. YouSee does not relay mail for domains it does not host. The section above lays out the rule.
