Quick answer: Gandi Mail puts every protocol on one server, mail.gandi.net. IMAP uses 993, POP3 uses 995 and SMTP uses 465, each over SSL. Sign in with the full email address and the password you set for the mailbox in your Gandi account. Since 30 November 2023 mail needs a paid Gandi Mailbox, so a plain forward will not connect. See mailbox or forward.
What Changed Recently#
Gandi changed its email plan more than its server names. Here is where Gandi Mail stands today and what it means for your setup.
Worth knowing
Free email ended on 30 November 2023. The mailbox that used to come with a Gandi domain is now a paid Gandi Mailbox. Standard gives 10 GB and Premium gives 50 GB. The server settings did not change.
Worth knowing
Your mailbox now expires on its own date. A Gandi Mailbox renews separately from the domain, so the two dates can differ. If mail stops, check that the mailbox itself is still paid up.
Worth knowing
A forward is free but cannot send. Gandi still forwards mail for free, yet a forward has no outbox. To send through mail.gandi.net you need a paid mailbox, not a forward on its own.
Before You Begin#
Handle these two basics before anything else. Skip them and your email app will reject the connection even when every server value is correct.
1. Create the mailbox
In your Gandi account open the Mailboxes area for your domain and add a paid mailbox with a password. A forward will not work here, since only a mailbox can send.
Where: Gandi account then Mailboxes
2. Note the one host
Gandi uses mail.gandi.net for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP alike. Point every protocol at that single server.

About Gandi Mail#
Gandi is a French domain registrar founded in 1999 and based in Paris. Gandi Mail runs on its own server rather than a per domain host. Mail now needs a paid Gandi Mailbox.
Gandi has registered domains since 1999 and offers email as a paid Mailbox on top of a domain. The point to keep in mind is that one server, mail.gandi.net, answers for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP alike. You sign in with the whole address and your Gandi mailbox password. Gandi stores mail in France.

Gandi Webmail Login#
You can always read your mail in a browser. The official Gandi pages are:
Find Your Settings#
A Gandi mailbox has IMAP on from the first day, so there is nothing to switch on. To confirm the values for one address, open your Gandi account.
- Sign in to your Gandi account at admin.gandi.net.
- Open your domain then the Mailboxes area.
- Create or pick a mailbox and set its password.
- Use mail.gandi.net over SSL for incoming and outgoing in your app.
Gandi IMAP Settings#
IMAP is the incoming choice Gandi points most people to. Mail stays on the server, so SOGo, Roundcube and your phone read one shared inbox. Gandi runs IMAP on mail.gandi.net over 993.
| IMAP Server | mail.gandi.net | |
| Port | 993 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address, including @yourdomain.com | |
| Password | Your mailbox password | |
| Authentication | Required |
Gandi POP3 Settings#
POP3 downloads mail to 1 device. Pick it only if you want a local copy on a single computer. Not sure? See the comparison below.
| POP3 Server | mail.gandi.net | |
| Port | 995 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Your mailbox password |
Gandi SMTP Settings#
SMTP handles outgoing mail. If you can read mail but not send it, the problem is here.
| SMTP Server | mail.gandi.net | |
| Port (SSL) | 465 | |
| Port (STARTTLS) | 587 | |
| Encryption | SSL or STARTTLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Same as incoming mail | |
| Authentication | Required. Switch on outgoing server authentication in the client. |
465 with SSL. Many home connections block port 25. Gandi also accepts 587 with STARTTLS if 465 is blocked. Confirm outgoing authentication is on.
Check Gandi IMAP Settings Online#
You don't need to download anything to check Gandi IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup: every value is verified, current and copyable straight from your browser. Not sure your address uses Gandi servers? Enter it below to check in a moment.
Does my email address use these settings?
Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.
Want to verify the account itself before configuring an app? Sign in at Gandi webmail, which confirms your address and password work. If SOGo or Roundcube opens, any email app connects with the tables above.
Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#
This page covers Gandi. For every other address, work email on a company domain included, we run a free online lookup database: imapsettings.com.
imapsettings.com
Complete email settings database, by Univik
Enter any email address and get the incoming and outgoing server settings for that domain in 1 step:
Your address is used only to find the settings for that domain. Nothing is stored or shared.
Username and Password#
Both come from the mailbox itself. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one you set for that mailbox in your Gandi account. A Gandi mailbox uses no app password.
Username is the full address
Type you@yourdomain.com in full, with the part after the at sign. Gandi turns down a bare mailbox name.
Put the same Gandi address on both incoming and outgoing.
Password is the mailbox one
This is the mailbox password you set in your Gandi account under Mailboxes, not your Gandi account sign in. Reset it there if an app keeps refusing it.
The two factor prompt on your Gandi account guards the account. SOGo and Roundcube can each add their own webmail 2FA.
Set Up Gandi in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
- Choose IMAP and set incoming to
mail.gandi.neton 993 with SSL. - Set outgoing to the same
mail.gandi.neton 465 with SSL. - Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
- Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
- Give your name, Gandi address and password, then continue.
- Enter mail.gandi.net with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
- Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
- Save and wait for the mailbox to load.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
- Keep IMAP chosen and put mail.gandi.net in both server boxes.
- Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since Gandi expects SSL.
- Tap Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
- Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
- For incoming use mail.gandi.net on 993 over SSL.
- For outgoing use mail.gandi.net on 465 over SSL.
- Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
- Type your name, Gandi address and password, then Continue.
- Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
- If detection fails, type mail.gandi.net for incoming and outgoing.
- Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.
Gandi Webmail Settings#
Server settings connect your apps. These controls decide how the mailbox behaves on the server. They live in Gandi webmail at webmail.gandi.net, where Gandi gives two apps, SOGo and Roundcube.
Signature
Add one in SOGo or Roundcube preferences. The signature rides on messages sent from webmail. A desktop app keeps its own.
Vacation Auto Reply
Set an out of office reply in SOGo and give it start and end dates. The Gandi server sends it, so it fires even when your machine is off.
Filters and Folders
Gandi filters use Sieve rules on the server. A Sieve rule sorts a message ahead of any device fetching it. A rule set inside an app only works while that app is open.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Gandi filters incoming mail for spam. Tune rules and blocked senders in SOGo or Roundcube. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.
POP3 vs IMAP#
| Feature | IMAP | POP3 |
|---|---|---|
| Where mail lives | On the Gandi server | Downloaded to 1 device |
| Multiple devices | ✅ Everything stays in sync | ❌ Each device sees different mail |
| Sent and deleted mail | ✅ Synced everywhere | ⚠️ Stays only on that device |
| Offline reading | ⚠️ Cached mail only | ✅ Full local copy |
| Server storage used | Yes, counts against your quota | Can be freed after download |
| Best for | Phone + computer, everyday use | Single PC, local archives |
Gandi Sending and Storage Limits#
A few limits are worth knowing before you bulk forward or move a mailbox. Gandi Mail is a paid plan with set storage and a few rules:
| Mailbox storage | Standard 10 GB, Premium 50 GB |
| Username | Full email address |
| SMTP ports | 465 (SSL) or 587 (STARTTLS) |
| Deleted mail | Recoverable for 7 days |
| Mail forward | Free but cannot send |
| Mailbox renewal | Separate from the domain |
Troubleshooting Gandi Connections#
Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:
| Error you see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Username or password rejected | Short username or wrong password | Use the full email address with the mailbox password from your Gandi account, not your Gandi sign in. |
| Cannot send on port 25 | ISP blocks the default SMTP port | Switch outgoing to 465 with SSL. Gandi also accepts 587 with STARTTLS if 465 is blocked. |
| Forward will not send | A forward has no outbox | A mail forward only receives and redirects. Add a paid Gandi Mailbox to send through mail.gandi.net. |
| Mailbox suddenly suspended | Mailbox expired on its own date | A Gandi Mailbox renews apart from the domain. Renew the mailbox in your Gandi account to restore access. |
| Cannot connect to server | Wrong port or encryption | Set 993 with SSL incoming and 465 with SSL outgoing. A firewall on your own machine can block it as well. |
| Repeated password prompt | Short username or a typo | Clear the saved login, then put in the full address with the mailbox password. |
| Messages stuck in Outbox | SMTP authentication is off | Enable "outgoing server requires authentication" with the same login as incoming mail. |
| 550 5.7.1 relaying denied | No paid mailbox to send from | mail.gandi.net relays only for a paid Gandi Mailbox. Add or renew the mailbox, then turn on SMTP authentication. |
| Free email disappeared | GandiMail ended 30 November 2023 | The old free mailbox is gone. Convert to a paid Gandi Mailbox in your Gandi account to restore IMAP and SMTP. |
Reader Reported Fixes
Use the one host. When a manual setup will not connect, enter mail.gandi.net for incoming and outgoing, on 993 and 465 with SSL. That single server clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.
Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webmail.gandi.net with the full address and mailbox password. If SOGo or Roundcube opens, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.
Do You Need a Gandi Mailbox or a Forward?#
Gandi ended free email on 30 November 2023. The first choice now is whether you need a paid mailbox or a free forward. They are not the same thing.
Mailbox (paid)
- Stores mail on
mail.gandi.net - Sends and receives over IMAP, POP3 and SMTP
- Standard 10 GB or Premium 50 GB
- Renews on its own date
Forward (free)
- Redirects mail to another address
- Cannot send on its own
- No storage of its own
- Stays free after the change
Moving Mail In or Out?#
Gandi Mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any standard account. Each folder stays on the server until the copy finishes.
Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. During a Gandi move a message can land on either provider until the copy ends. A copy keeps you safe.
Carrying mail across? The Univik Email Migration Tool moves each folder over an IMAP link. Give it mail.gandi.net with the mailbox password on this side and the other account opposite.
Rather hand it off? Our Email Migration Services team runs the whole move and verifies each folder arrived.
Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#
The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete Gandi mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup saves everything as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF files you keep forever, even if the account closes.
- Download Univik Email Backup and install it on Windows.
- Select Gandi from the source list. If Gandi is not on the source list, pick a plain IMAP account.
- Give the complete email address with your mailbox password. For Gandi the login name is always the whole email address.
- When the backup tool wants server details, hand it mail.gandi.net on port 993 with SSL. Take those values straight from the IMAP table above, with port
993over SSL. - Pick a saving format and folder, then start the backup. Large mailboxes download in the background.
Email Settings Glossary#
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.
SSL / TLS / STARTTLS
Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).
Mailbox Password
The password you set for a Gandi mailbox in your Gandi account. Your email apps use this, not your Gandi sign in.
Gandi Mailbox
The paid mailbox Gandi sells on top of a domain. Standard gives 10 GB and Premium gives 50 GB.
SOGo
One of the two Gandi webmail apps at webmail.gandi.net. It adds calendar and contacts alongside mail.
Roundcube
The other Gandi webmail app at webmail.gandi.net. A lighter browser mail view than SOGo.
Sieve Filter
A server side rule that sorts Gandi mail before any device fetches it. Set it in SOGo or Roundcube.
mail.gandi.net
The single Gandi mail server. It handles IMAP on 993, POP3 on 995 and SMTP on 465, each over SSL.
Mail Forward
A free Gandi redirect that sends mail to another address. A forward cannot send on its own, so it is not a mailbox.
Gandi Account
The admin.gandi.net area where you buy mailboxes, set passwords and renew each mailbox.
SRV Record
A DNS record Gandi adds to your domain, so many mail apps find mail.gandi.net on their own without manual entry.
Second-chance Recovery
A Gandi feature that restores mail deleted from a mailbox for up to 7 days. It does not cover a mailbox you let expire.
webmail.gandi.net
The Gandi webmail address. It opens SOGo or Roundcube in the browser with the full address and mailbox password.
How We Verify These Settings#
Univik builds email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. Our tools sign in to Gandi over IMAP and SMTP every day for thousands of users, so a changed server, port or login rule shows up in our connection logs before most guides notice it.
Every value on this page is confirmed with three checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against the Gandi guides and a sign in with a real mailbox using the full address. We re verify after any provider announcement and at least once a quarter.
Found something that no longer matches what Gandi shows you? Tell us and we will retest and update the page, with the change logged in what changed recently.

Frequently Asked Questions
Point your app at mail.gandi.net on port 993 over SSL. Your login name is the full email address and the password is the mailbox password from your Gandi account. The IMAP settings section holds the full table.
Check the username first. It must be the complete address rather than the part before the at sign. A Gandi mailbox uses the mailbox password with no app password. Your Gandi account two factor does not affect the mailbox.
IMAP suits nearly everyone and Gandi points you to it. Mail stays on the server so SOGo, Roundcube and your phone match. POP3 pulls mail down to one machine and can lose it if that machine fails. Full comparison here.
Yes. The server, ports and encryption match on iPhone, Android and Windows. Only the path to the settings screen shifts by app, which the client setup guides spell out.
No. Gandi ended the free mailbox on 30 November 2023. Mail now needs a paid Gandi Mailbox, with Standard at 10 GB and Premium at 50 GB. Only mail forwarding stays free, though a forward cannot send.
Yes. Leave SSL set on each server so the sign in never travels in the open. Set a strong mailbox password in your Gandi account. Turn on two factor on the Gandi account to guard it.
An email client with IMAP downloads mail as it syncs, but a dedicated backup tool is faster and saves standard files you can open anywhere. See how to back up your Gandi mailbox. If you already exported files in another format, an email converter changes them to PST, PDF or whatever your new app opens.
With Gandi mail the culprit is normally a short username, a bad password or a blocked port. One more Gandi cause is an unpaid mailbox, since a Gandi Mailbox renews apart from the domain. Check what to know. Enter the whole address with the mailbox password, then 993 incoming and 465 outgoing over SSL.
A migration tool copies mail across the two accounts on an IMAP link. Give the Gandi IMAP settings with the mailbox password on this side and the destination details on the other. Each folder lands with its dates intact.
If setting this up feels risky or you have many accounts to move, our managed email migration service does the entire job for you.
Gandi gives two browser apps at webmail.gandi.net, SOGo and Roundcube. SOGo adds a calendar and contacts alongside mail. Roundcube is a lighter mail only view. Both sign in with the full address and your mailbox password.
