What Changed Recently#
A host changes how you sign in more often than it changes the server names. Here is the current status for Onet and what it means for your setup.

Handle these two basics before anything else. Skip them and your email app will reject the connection even when every server value is correct.

Add the address under your mail settings in Onet settings and set its password. That password is the one your apps use.

About Onet Email#
Onet Poczta is the mail service of Onet, one of Poland's largest portals, run by Ringier Axel Springer Polska. A mailbox reads in a browser at poczta.onet.pl or in the official Onet app.
The big change landed on 31 March 2026. POP3 was switched off for every account. IMAP in an app such as Outlook or Thunderbird now needs a paid plan, Poczta Plus or Poczta Standard. Older perpetual accounts keep IMAP at no charge. A free account without a plan reads mail in the browser or the Onet app, not in a desktop program. When IMAP is on your plan, incoming uses imap.poczta.onet.pl on 993 and outgoing uses smtp.poczta.onet.pl on 465, both with SSL and a sign-in.

Since 31 March 2026 IMAP in a mail app is no longer part of a free Onet account. Three cases decide whether the settings below will connect:

Username and Password#
Both come from the mailbox itself. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one you chose when you built the address in Onet settings. A standard Onet mailbox uses no Onet password.
Username is the full address
Type you@onet.pl in full, with the part after the at sign. Onet turns down a bare mailbox name.
Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.
Password is the mailbox one
This is the webmail password you set under your mail settings in Onet settings, not your Onet client area login. Reset it there if an app keeps refusing it.
The two factor prompt in the Onet client area guards billing, not the mailbox connection.
Set Up Onet in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
- Choose IMAP and set incoming to
imap.poczta.onet.plon 993 with SSL. - Set outgoing to the same server on 465 with SSL.
- Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
- Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
- Give your name, Onet address and password, then continue.
- Enter imap.poczta.onet.pl with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
- Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
- Save and wait for the mailbox to load.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
- Keep IMAP chosen and put imap.poczta.onet.pl in both server boxes.
- Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since Onet expects SSL.
- Tap Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
- Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
- For incoming use imap.poczta.onet.pl on 993 over SSL.
- For outgoing use smtp.poczta.onet.pl on 465 over SSL.
- Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
- Type your name, Onet address and password, then Continue.
- Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
- If detection fails, type imap.poczta.onet.pl in yourself.
- Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.
Onet Webmail Settings#
Server settings connect your apps. The controls here shape how the mailbox acts on its own. They live in Onet webmail, opened at poczta.onet.pl in any browser.
Signature
Add one in the webmail preferences. It rides on mail sent from webmail. A desktop app keeps a signature of its own.
Vacation Auto Reply
Set an autoresponder in Onet settings and give it start and end dates. The Onet server delivers it, so it fires even when your machine is off.
Filters and Folders
Create filters from the Onet webmail filters in Onet settings. A server side rule sorts a message ahead of any device fetching it. A rule set inside an app only works while that app is running.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Onet runs SpamAssassin on incoming mail. Set the threshold and block unwanted senders in Onet settings. Flagged mail lands in the junk folder for a look.
IMAP and the Retired POP3#
Onet mail once offered both protocols. Only IMAP remains, on a paid or perpetual account.
IMAP (the one that stays)
Keeps mail on the Onet server so a phone and a laptop show the same inbox. Read, filed and deleted messages match across devices. This is the protocol to set, on imap.poczta.onet.pl 993 SSL.
POP3 (retired 31 March 2026)
The old download-and-delete protocol pulled mail to one device and off the server. Onet switched it off for every account, so it no longer connects. An app still set to POP3 has to move to IMAP.

Reader Reported Fixes
Copy from your Onet mail settings. When a manual setup will not connect, the your Onet mail settings page in Onet settings prints the exact server name and ports for that mailbox. Pasting those in clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.
Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webimap.poczta.onet.pl with the full address and mailbox password. If webmail works, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.
Onet Stopped Collecting Other Inboxes#
The 31 March 2026 change did more than move IMAP to a paid plan. Onet also switched off the tool that pulled mail from other inboxes into your Onet mailbox.
That tool used to sign in to a Gmail or other account for you and copy its new mail into Onet, so a single Onet inbox showed everything. It no longer runs. Mail sent to the other address now stays in the other mailbox. Two ways keep everything together:

Moving Mail In or Out?#
Onet mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any Onet account. Each folder stays on the server until the move finishes.
Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the Onet server so every device shows the same inbox. Use imap.poczta.onet.pl on 993 with SSL. It needs a paid plan or a perpetual account.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail through smtp.poczta.onet.pl on port 465 with SSL. It needs a sign-in with your address and password.
SSL and STARTTLS
Two ways to encrypt the link. SSL is on from the first byte, on 993 and 465 for Onet. STARTTLS on 587 upgrades a plain link, an alternative some apps offer for sending.

The incoming server for an Onet address. Set it on port 993 with SSL to read your Onet inbox in an app, once IMAP is on your plan.
smtp.poczta.onet.pl
The outgoing server for an Onet address. Set it on port 465 with SSL and a sign-in to send your mail.
Paid Plan
Poczta Plus or Poczta Standard. Since 31 March 2026 a free Onet account cannot use IMAP in an app, so one of these plans turns it back on.
Perpetual Account
An older Onet mailbox, a konto wieczyste. It keeps IMAP in an app at no charge, the one exception to the paid-plan rule.
POP3 (Retired)
The old download-and-delete protocol. Onet switched it off for every account on 31 March 2026, so no app can use POP3 with Onet any more.
Onet Webmail
The browser view of your mail at poczta.onet.pl. It stays free for every account and is the way in when an app is not an option.
Onet Mobile App
The official Poczta Onet app for iOS and Android. It reads a free account without IMAP, the free route alongside webmail.
Full Email Address
Your username for the server is the whole Onet address. The same value works for incoming and outgoing.
