About Rambler Mail#
Rambler Mail is the free mail service of Rambler, one of Russia's oldest web portals. A mailbox reads in a browser at mail.rambler.ru. It also works in Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird.
Incoming mail uses imap.rambler.ru on 993 for IMAP. For POP it is pop.rambler.ru on 995. Outgoing uses smtp.rambler.ru on 465. The username is your full address. The one step people miss is the switch that lets a client in at all. Rambler keeps that access off until you turn it on in the Programs settings. The same servers serve every Rambler domain, so lenta.ru, ro.ru, autorambler.ru and myrambler.ru addresses use them too.

Turn On Client Access First#
Rambler keeps outside programs locked out by default. Before Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird can sign in, you switch client access on in the Rambler webmail. Skip this and the client returns an authorisation error, even with every server and port correct.

- Open Settings from the top right, then the Programs section.

Username and Password#
Both come from the mailbox itself. The username is the whole email address and the password is the one you chose when you built the address in Rambler settings. A standard Rambler mailbox uses no Rambler password.
Username is the full address
Type you@rambler.ru in full, with the part after the at sign. Rambler turns down a bare mailbox name.
Put that same address on both incoming and outgoing.
Password is the mailbox one
This is the webmail password you set under your mail settings in Rambler settings, not your Rambler client area login. Reset it there if an app keeps refusing it.

Set Up Rambler in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook select Add Account, then turn on manual setup under Advanced options.
- Choose IMAP and set incoming to
imap.rambler.ruon 993 with SSL. - Set outgoing to the same server on 465 with SSL.
- Enter the full address and mailbox password when Outlook prompts you.
- Send a test message to yourself to prove both paths.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail select Add Account, then pick Other Mail Account.
- Give your name, Rambler address and password, then continue.
- Enter imap.rambler.ru with SSL on incoming and outgoing.
- Keep the SSL ports so nothing sends in plain text.
- Save and wait for the mailbox to load.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings open Mail, then tap Mail Accounts and Add Account.
- Tap Other then Add Mail Account and fill your details.
- Keep IMAP chosen and put imap.rambler.ru in both server boxes.
- Leave the secure ports iOS fills, since Rambler expects SSL.
- Tap Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open your mail app and tap Add account, then Other or IMAP.
- Put in your address and password. Switch to manual setup if it stalls.
- For incoming use imap.rambler.ru on 993 over SSL.
- For outgoing use smtp.rambler.ru on 465 over SSL.
- Save and swipe down to fetch your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird pick Account Actions, then Add Mail Account.
- Type your name, Rambler address and password, then Continue.
- Wait for detection, then make sure IMAP with SSL is picked.
- If detection fails, type imap.rambler.ru in yourself.
- Hit Done and the folders fill in on the first sync.

Copy from the Programs settings. When a manual setup will not connect, the the Programs settings page in Rambler settings prints the exact server name and ports for that mailbox. Pasting those in clears the guesswork behind most failed setups.
Test the login in webmail first. Sign in at webimap.rambler.ru with the full address and mailbox password. If webmail works, the credentials are right and the issue sits in the app settings.
When the Standard Port Is Blocked#
The standard ports work for most people. When an app, an operating system or an internet provider blocks one, Rambler lists fallback ports for every server. Rambler's own help gives the same matrix on each client page, so any of these values is safe to try.

Most fallback cases are on the sending side. Many internet providers block port 25 to cut down on spam, so a client set to 25 fails to send. Move the outgoing server to 587 or 2525 with STARTTLS. Port 465 with SSL also stays open. On the reading side, a network that blocks 993 or 995 leaves 143 for IMAP and 110 for POP, both with STARTTLS.

Rambler mail speaks plain IMAP, so a mailbox moves in or out like any Rambler account. Each folder stays on the server until the move finishes.
Take a copy first. Back up the mailbox before a move. A note that arrives mid switch can sit on either side. A copy keeps you safe.

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the Rambler server, so every device shows the same inbox. Use imap.rambler.ru on port 993 with SSL.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to one device. Use pop.rambler.ru on port 995 with SSL if you prefer POP.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail through smtp.rambler.ru on port 465 with SSL. It needs a sign-in with your address and password.
SSL
The encryption Rambler uses on 993, 995 and 465. It is on from the first byte, so the login and the mail stay private.

The incoming server for IMAP. Set it on port 993 with SSL to read mail that stays on the server.

Client Access

The old outgoing mail port. Many providers block it to slow spam, so a client set to 25 often cannot send. Move to 587 or 2525 instead.
Fallback Port
A second port Rambler accepts when the standard one is blocked. IMAP falls back to 143, POP to 110 and SMTP to 587, 2525 or 25.
