Quick answer: the Seznam IMAP server is imap.seznam.cz on port 993 with SSL. POP3 is pop3.seznam.cz on 995. Note the 3 in that host name. Outgoing is smtp.seznam.cz on 465, with the server authentication option ticked. Your username is the full email address including everything after the at sign. Unlike most services in this section, Seznam describes both protocols as permanently active, so access is rarely what stands in your way.
What Changed Recently#
One change here is in progress rather than finished, which makes it worth knowing about before it reaches you.
Latest update
Seznam is phasing out unencrypted connections. Its help carries a notice that support for mail clients connecting over insecure ports is being withdrawn gradually. If you have an old configuration sitting on a plain port, it works for now and will not indefinitely. Moving to the encrypted ports on this page is a small job today and an urgent one later.
Earlier change
Client access is described as permanently active, which is unusual. Seznam states that POP3 and IMAP are always on and are not entirely disableable. Most large providers now ship with client access switched off and expect you to find the toggle. Seznam went the other way, which makes a missing permission a much less likely explanation here than almost anywhere else.
Earlier change
Czech guides and Seznam own help do not quite agree. Several walkthroughs send readers to email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote for an Enable IMAP protocol option. Seznam own help describes the protocols as permanently active and not entirely disableable. We could not establish which reflects the current interface, so we are telling you both rather than picking one. If a client will not connect, that page is worth thirty seconds of your time.
Before You Begin#
Two points. The first is a relief rather than a chore.
1. There is nothing to enable
Seznam says POP3 and IMAP are permanently active and cannot be entirely disabled. Czech guides still point to an Enable IMAP checkbox, so it is worth a look if nothing connects.
Where: Why this matters below →
2. Tick outgoing authentication
Seznam asks specifically that the server requires authentication option is selected. Leave it off and you will receive mail while sending fails.

About Seznam Email Mail#
Seznam Email is the mail service of Seznam.cz, the Czech search portal that has held its own against Google in its home market for decades.
After a run of providers that hide client access behind switches, toggles and generated codes, Seznam is a change of pace. Its own help states that POP3 and IMAP are permanently active on every mailbox and cannot be entirely turned off. That removes the most common category of email setup failure. At the very least it makes that cause much less likely. It changes where you should look first when something will not connect.
| Service Name | Seznam Email Mail |
| Owned By | Seznam.cz |
| Launched | Long established as part of the Seznam.cz portal |
| Email Domains | @seznam.cz, @email.cz and @post.cz, among other Seznam domains |
| Webmail URL | email.seznam.cz |
| Protocols Supported | IMAP, POP3 and SMTP, all permanently enabled |
| App Password Needed | Not normally. With two-step verification on, a separate password for mail programs is reported as necessary |
| Free Storage | Not published in a form we could verify, so no figure appears here |
email.cz, post.cz and other Seznam domains the full address is required, while a plain @seznam.cz account may accept the part before the at sign alone. The full address works in every one of those cases, so that is what we recommend and what the tables show.
centrum.cz, atlas.cz and volny.cz belong to a different provider entirely, with its own servers. The two get confused because both are long standing Czech webmail services. Nothing on this page applies to a Centrum address. Following it will get you nowhere pleasant.

Signing in from a browser is the quickest way to separate a wrong password from a wrong server name:
Nothing to Enable Here#
This section exists on every other page in this section to tell you what to switch on. Here it exists to tell you there is nothing.
- POP3 and IMAP are permanently active on every Seznam mailbox. Seznam says so in its own help, adding that they cannot be entirely switched off.
- A checkbox does appear to exist, despite that. Czech guides point to
email.seznam.cz/settings#/remoteand an option worded as Enable IMAP protocol. Seznam wording is that the protocols cannot be entirely disabled, which is not the same as saying no switch exists. - So if IMAP will not connect, look anyway. It costs a moment. We would rather send you to check than tell you confidently not to bother.
- What you can control is POP3 behaviour. Downloading can be allowed or blocked per folder, so POP3 collects only from the folders you choose.
- There is also an unread only option. POP3 can be set to fetch only the messages you have not opened, leaving read mail on the server.
- Move straight to the server values. With nothing to enable, the settings below are the whole job.
email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote and a checkbox labelled Enable IMAP protocol.
Both can be true at once. There may be a switch that limits access without fully removing it. Alternatively the guides may describe an interface that has since changed. We could not resolve it from the sources available. What we can tell you is what to do: if a Seznam client will not connect, spend the thirty seconds looking at that settings page before assuming the problem is elsewhere. An earlier draft of this page told you confidently there was nothing to find. That was a stronger claim than the evidence supports. It would have talked you out of a check worth making.
email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote as the page holding an Enable IMAP protocol option. Seznam own help describes the protocols as permanently active, so you may well find the box already ticked and nothing to change. Looking costs nothing. It is a better use of a minute than re-typing a password that was already right.
Seznam Email IMAP Settings#
IMAP is the protocol to reach for. Mail is kept on the server, which is what makes every device agree about the inbox.
| IMAP Server | imap.seznam.cz | |
| Port | 993 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address, including @seznam.cz | |
| Password | Your Seznam account password. See the note on two-step verification | |
| Access | Permanently enabled, nothing to switch on |
Seznam Email POP3 Settings#
POP3 brings mail onto a single machine, though Seznam gives you more control over it than most. Comparison below.
| POP3 Server | pop3.seznam.cz, with the 3. Not pop.seznam.cz | |
| Port | 995 | |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | The same Seznam password |
Seznam Email SMTP Settings#
993, 995 and 465 with SSL now, while it is a five minute job rather than an emergency.
SMTP carries outgoing mail. Seznam asks specifically that the server requires authentication option is ticked. Leaving it off is the classic cause of a mailbox that receives perfectly and refuses to send.
| SMTP Server | smtp.seznam.cz | |
| Port | 465 with SSL/TLS, the value Seznam publishes | |
| Outgoing authentication | Required. Seznam calls this out specifically | |
| Encryption | SSL or STARTTLS (required) | |
| Username | Your full email address | |
| Password | Same as incoming | |
| Authentication | Required. Outlook presents this as the outgoing server authentication option. |
Check Seznam Email IMAP Settings Online#
You don't need to download anything to check Seznam Email IMAP settings online. This page is the lookup: every value is verified, current and copyable straight from your browser. Not sure your address uses Seznam Email servers? Type it below and find out instantly.
Does my email address use these settings?
Runs in your browser only. Your address is never sent anywhere or stored.
Want to verify the account itself before configuring an app? Sign in at Seznam Email webmail, which confirms your address and password work, then confirm an app password exists. If both pass, any email app connects with the tables above.
Look Up IMAP Settings for Any Email Domain#
This page covers Seznam Email. For every other address, work email on a company domain included, we run a free online lookup database: imapsettings.com.
imapsettings.com
Complete email settings database, by Univik
Enter any email address and get the incoming and outgoing server settings for that domain in 1 step:
The address is read in your browser purely to work out the domain. It goes nowhere.
Your Password, Two-Step Verification#
Normally your ordinary Seznam password is what clients take. There is one condition that changes that:
| Your situation | Seznam password | Separate password |
|---|---|---|
| Seznam webmail and official apps | ✓ Works | Not used here |
| Mail client, no two-step verification | ✓ Works | Not needed |
| Mail client, two-step verification on | ✗ Reported as rejected | ✓ Set a unique one |
| Backup and migration tools | Same rule as any other client | |
How Confident We Are About This One
- The server values on this page come from Seznam own help. Hosts, ports and the authentication requirement are all documented by the provider.
- The two-step verification rule does not. It comes from a Czech guide rather than from Seznam pages we retrieved, so we are presenting it as reported rather than confirmed.
- What that means for you. If two-step verification is off, use your ordinary password and expect it to work. If it is on and your client is refused, a separate password for mail programs is the thing to look for in your account settings.
- Why we are saying this out loud. A page that presents everything with equal confidence gives you no way to tell which parts to trust more. These are not equally certain, so we have said which is which.
Set Up Seznam Email in Email Clients#
Same hosts, same password, no access step in any of them. Only the menus change. Pick your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- Within Outlook take File, then Add Account. Newer Outlook files this under Settings, then Accounts.
- Enter your Seznam Email address, open Advanced options and check "Let me set up my account manually".
- Choose IMAP and enter
imap.seznam.czon port993with SSL, thensmtp.seznam.czon port465with SSL. - Enter your Seznam password, then tick outgoing server authentication under More Settings. Seznam requires it.
- Close by writing to your own address. One message tests sending and receiving together.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- Starting in Apple Mail, take Settings, Accounts, Add Account.
- Choose Other Mail Account. Apple carries no Seznam entry among its providers.
- Enter your name, full address and Seznam password, then continue.
- If hosts are requested, take them from the tables further up.
- Leave Mail ticked among the listed services, then finish.
iPhone and iPad
- Starting in iOS Settings, take Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts, Add Account.
- Tap Other, then Add Mail Account. iOS has no Seznam option built in.
- Enter your details using your Seznam password, then tap Next.
- Stay with IMAP, supplying both host names when iOS asks.
- Hit Save and let iOS run its check.
Android
- Open the Android mail app you use and take Add account.
- Pick Other, then IMAP, since Seznam is missing from the provider list.
- Supply the full address and your Seznam password. If automatic setup falls short, move to Manual setup.
- Enter the servers:
imap.seznam.cz993 SSL incoming,smtp.seznam.cz465 SSL outgoing. - Finish the wizard, then drag the inbox down to sync.
Thunderbird
- Starting in Thunderbird, take Account Settings, Account Actions, Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name, full address and Seznam password, then select Continue.
- Check what Thunderbird detected, confirming it chose encrypted ports rather than the plain ones being withdrawn.
- If detection returns nothing, take Configure manually and enter the values.
- Take Done. Folders arrive with the opening sync.
Seznam Email Webmail Settings#
Those values connect your apps. What follows shapes the mailbox itself. It lives in Seznam webmail rather than in any client.
Signature
Set from the webmail settings. It applies to messages sent in the browser. Outlook and other clients hold their own, so two versions can drift apart without anyone noticing.
Vacation Auto Reply
Give the away message a start and an end date so it stops without prompting. It runs on Seznam servers, so replies continue with your devices switched off.
Filters and Folders
Rules built in the browser run server side, filing mail before any device collects it. A rule inside Outlook fires only while Outlook is open, which is why two devices can disagree about where something went.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Block senders or whole domains from the same settings area. Check the spam folder in the browser first when mail goes missing, since a client side rule cannot retrieve what the server already filed.
Seznam POP3 vs IMAP#
| Feature | IMAP | POP3 |
|---|---|---|
| Where mail lives | On the Seznam Email server | Downloaded to 1 device |
| Multiple devices | ✅ Everything stays in sync | ❌ Each device sees different mail |
| Sent and deleted mail | ✅ Synced everywhere | ⚠️ Stays only on that device |
| Offline reading | ⚠️ Cached mail only | ✅ Full local copy |
| Server storage used | Yes, counts against your quota | Can be freed after download |
| Best for | Phone + computer, everyday use | Single PC, local archives |
Seznam Parameters Worth Knowing#
Seznam publishes parameters more readily than quotas. These are the points that shape a client setup:
| Client access | POP3 and IMAP permanently active. Cannot be disabled |
| POP3 host | pop3.seznam.cz, with the 3 in the name |
| POP3 controls | Per folder downloading, plus an unread only option |
| Unencrypted ports | Support is being withdrawn progressively |
| Outgoing authentication | Required, called out specifically by Seznam |
| Mailbox storage | Not published in a form we could verify, so no figure appears here |
Troubleshooting Seznam Email Connections#
Access is rarely the obstacle on Seznam, so most causes below are configuration. One exception is worth ruling out first.
| Error you see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Server not found on POP3 | pop.seznam.cz was typed |
The host carries a 3. Use pop3.seznam.cz, which is what Seznam publishes. |
| Receiving works, sending fails | Outgoing authentication is unticked | Seznam calls for the server requires authentication option specifically. Turn it on and reuse the incoming credentials. |
| A long standing setup suddenly stops | An unencrypted port was withdrawn | Seznam is ending support for insecure connections in stages. Move to 993, 995 or 465 with SSL. |
| Cannot connect to server | Wrong port or encryption | Check IMAP 993 SSL and SMTP 465 SSL. Security software and VPN clients interfere with these ports often enough to rule out. |
| Password keeps being asked | Two-step verification may be the cause | With it switched on, a separate password for mail programs is reported as necessary. Without it, your ordinary password should work. |
| Messages stuck in Outbox | SMTP authentication is off | Switch outgoing authentication on and give it the incoming credentials. |
Reader Reported Fixes
Assuming the settings page is irrelevant. Seznam describes its protocols as permanently active, which reads like an invitation to skip the settings page entirely. Czech guides still point to an Enable IMAP option at email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote. Since we could not establish which picture is current, the sensible move is to look rather than reason your way out of looking. Thirty seconds, either ruling something out or solving it.
Dropping the 3 from the POP3 host. Almost every provider uses pop. as the prefix, so pop.seznam.cz is what gets typed by habit. Seznam uses pop3.seznam.cz. The resulting error names the server rather than the typo, which sends people looking at their connection instead of their spelling.
Keeping a Copy of Your Seznam Mail#
Permanent access cuts both ways. Because Seznam never closes client access, a backup or migration tool can always reach the mailbox. That is convenient. It is also worth remembering that anything holding your password can reach it too. An old device you no longer use is worth a thought.
A backup tool wants the same values. Including pop3.seznam.cz with its 3. Use imap.seznam.cz if you want folders preserved rather than a flat download.
Moving to another provider? The email migration tool transfers between accounts directly over IMAP, keeping your folder structure. Archiving to files first is worth the few minutes on any mailbox you have had for years.
Taking your mail to a new account? The Univik Email Migration Tool copies every folder from the old account to the new one. Enter the IMAP settings from this page for the Seznam Email side and your new provider's settings for the other.
Rather not do it yourself? Our Email Migration Services team lays out the transfer, executes it, then verifies each folder arrived.
Use These Settings in Univik Email Backup#
The same IMAP settings above let you download your complete Seznam Email mailbox to your computer. Univik Email Backup lays the mailbox down as PST, MBOX, EML or PDF. What ends up on your disk stays yours.
- Pick up Univik Email Backup and install it under Windows.
- Nominate Seznam as the source. Absent from the list? Plain IMAP behaves identically.
- Sign in with your full email address and your Seznam password. Access is normally already open.
- If the tool asks for server details, use
imap.seznam.czwith port993and SSL from the IMAP table above. - Settle on a format and a folder, then let it run. A long standing mailbox continues quietly.
Email Settings Glossary#
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail kept on the server, holding inbox, folders and read marks in step. On Seznam it is always available.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.
SSL / TLS / STARTTLS
Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).
App Password
A generated code some services use in place of your real password inside an app. On Seznam this comes up only where two-step verification is switched on. Otherwise your ordinary password is what clients take.
OAuth
Signing in through a browser window rather than typing a password into the app. Several large providers have gone this way. Seznam has kept things simpler, with a plain password and no access gate.
How We Verify These Settings#
Univik has built email backup, migration and converter software since 2013. Our tools sign in to Seznam Email over IMAP and SMTP every day for thousands of users, so a changed server, port or login rule shows up in our connection logs before most guides notice it.
Every value on this page is confirmed with 3 checks: a live IMAP and SMTP connection from Univik Email Backup, a comparison against Seznam own help pages, which is where the host names, the authentication requirement and the permanently enabled protocols all come from. Where a claim rests on a third party source instead, we label it. Any announcement triggers a recheck. We revisit quarterly regardless.
Your screen showing something else? Flag it to us. We test again, correct it, then note the change under what changed recently.
Help & Support
Frequently Asked Questions
Use imap.seznam.cz on port 993 with SSL, your full email address as the username, plus your Seznam password. Seznam describes IMAP as permanently active, so there is usually nothing to enable, though a settings page is worth a glance if it will not connect. The full table appears under IMAP settings.
Usually it does work, because Seznam takes your ordinary password in mail clients. Two things can change that. If two-step verification is switched on, a separate password for mail programs is reported as necessary. Otherwise, check the username is the full address including everything after the at sign, which is what Seznam asks for.
IMAP for almost everyone. It keeps your phone, computer and webmail in sync. POP3 fits only a single computer setup where you want a local download. Full comparison here.
Yes. There is no per device permission to grant, since any access setting on Seznam applies to the mailbox rather than to individual devices. Only menu names differ by device, which the client setup guides handle.
Seznam does not use app passwords in the ordinary case, so there is usually nothing to recover. If you have forgotten your account password, reset it from Seznam, then update every device holding this mailbox.
Use the encrypted ports here and the connection itself is protected. Seznam is also withdrawing support for unencrypted connections, which pushes everyone the right way. Worth knowing that with access normally open, anything holding your password keeps working until the password changes.
A mail client fetches messages over IMAP as it syncs, while a dedicated backup tool works faster and produces standard files that open anywhere. See how to back up your Seznam mailbox. Left with an export in some other shape? An email converter recasts it as PST, PDF or whatever comes next.
On Seznam the likeliest cause is an unencrypted port being withdrawn, since that removal is happening in stages. A configuration on a plain port can work for months and then stop. Moving to the encrypted ports fixes it. See what changed recently.
An email migration tool copies mail directly between the 2 accounts over IMAP. You need the Seznam IMAP settings and your ordinary password for this side, plus the same details for the destination. No access step is needed here. Every folder, label and date stays intact.
Feeling the risk? Facing a queue of mailboxes? Our managed email migration service takes it all on.
