Q: What are the Seznam Email IMAP settings?

Use imap.seznam.cz on port 993 with SSL, your full email address as the username, plus your Seznam password. Quick answer: the Seznam IMAP server is imap.seznam.cz on port 993 with SSL. POP3 is pop3.seznam.cz on 995. Note the 3 in that host name. Outgoing is smtp.seznam.cz on 465, with the server authentication option ticked. Your username is the full email address including everything after the at sign. Unlike most services in this section, Seznam describes both protocols as permanently active, so access is rarely what stands in your way.

Latest update

Seznam is phasing out unencrypted connections. Its help carries a notice that support for mail clients connecting over insecure ports is being withdrawn gradually. If you have an old configuration sitting on a plain port, it works for now and will not indefinitely. Moving to the encrypted ports on this page is a small job today and an urgent one later.

Earlier change

Client access is described as permanently active, which is unusual. Seznam states that POP3 and IMAP are always on and are not entirely disableable. Most large providers now ship with client access switched off and expect you to find the toggle. Seznam went the other way, which makes a missing permission a much less likely explanation here than almost anywhere else.

Czech guides and Seznam own help do not quite agree. Several walkthroughs send readers to email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote for an Enable IMAP protocol option. Seznam own help describes the protocols as permanently active and not entirely disableable. We could not establish which reflects the current interface, so we are telling you both rather than picking one. If a client will not connect, that page is worth thirty seconds of your time.

Current status: IMAP, POP3 and SMTP all work on the encrypted ports below. Seznam describes client access as permanently active.

Before You Begin#

Two points. The first is a relief rather than a chore.

1. There is nothing to enable

Seznam says POP3 and IMAP are permanently active and cannot be entirely disabled. Czech guides still point to an Enable IMAP checkbox, so it is worth a look if nothing connects.

About Seznam Email Mail#

Seznam Email is the mail service of Seznam.cz, the Czech search portal that has held its own against Google in its home market for decades.

After a run of providers that hide client access behind switches, toggles and generated codes, Seznam is a change of pace. Its own help states that POP3 and IMAP are permanently active on every mailbox and cannot be entirely turned off. That removes the most common category of email setup failure. At the very least it makes that cause much less likely. It changes where you should look first when something will not connect.

Access is not the usual obstacle here: Seznam states that POP3 and IMAP are permanently active on all mailboxes and cannot be entirely disabled. So a failed connection is far more likely to be a mistyped value than a missing permission, which narrows the search. There is still a settings page worth glancing at, covered below.

On the username, use the whole address. Seznam own help gives that instruction for its Email Profi service specifically. Czech setup guides go further and say that for email.cz, post.cz and other Seznam domains the full address is required, while a plain @seznam.cz account may accept the part before the at sign alone. The full address works in every one of those cases, so that is what we recommend and what the tables show.

Seznam is not Centrum. The settings are unrelated. Czech addresses on centrum.cz, atlas.cz and volny.cz belong to a different provider entirely, with its own servers. The two get confused because both are long standing Czech webmail services. Nothing on this page applies to a Centrum address. Following it will get you nowhere pleasant.

The middle row is the one habit gets wrong.

Watch out for fake support pages. Several pages ranking for these settings open with a phone number and an offer of paid help. Neither Seznam nor Univik needs you to ring anybody to type in a server address. Every value here costs nothing.

Nothing to Enable Here#

This section exists on every other page in this section to tell you what to switch on. Here it exists to tell you there is nothing.

POP3 and IMAP are permanently active on every Seznam mailbox. Seznam says so in its own help, adding that they cannot be entirely switched off.
A checkbox does appear to exist, despite that. Czech guides point to email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote and an option worded as Enable IMAP protocol. Seznam wording is that the protocols cannot be entirely disabled, which is not the same as saying no switch exists.
So if IMAP will not connect, look anyway. It costs a moment. We would rather send you to check than tell you confidently not to bother.
What you can control is POP3 behaviour. Downloading can be allowed or blocked per folder, so POP3 collects only from the folders you choose.
There is also an unread only option. POP3 can be set to fetch only the messages you have not opened, leaving read mail on the server.
Move straight to the server values. With nothing to enable, the settings below are the whole job.

Where the evidence disagrees, plus what we would actually do. Seznam own help says POP3 and IMAP are permanently active and cannot be entirely switched off. That wording is careful. It is not quite the same as saying no control exists. Meanwhile Czech guides point readers at email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote and a checkbox labelled Enable IMAP protocol.

Both can be true at once. There may be a switch that limits access without fully removing it. Alternatively the guides may describe an interface that has since changed. We could not resolve it from the sources available. What we can tell you is what to do: if a Seznam client will not connect, spend the thirty seconds looking at that settings page before assuming the problem is elsewhere. An earlier draft of this page told you confidently there was nothing to find. That was a stronger claim than the evidence supports. It would have talked you out of a check worth making.

Where to look if you want to check. Czech guides give email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote as the page holding an Enable IMAP protocol option. Seznam own help describes the protocols as permanently active, so you may well find the box already ticked and nothing to change. Looking costs nothing. It is a better use of a minute than re-typing a password that was already right.

Seznam gives you more POP3 control than most. Rather than a plain off switch, Seznam offers finer settings. Downloading can be permitted or blocked folder by folder. There is also an option to fetch only unread messages. Neither appears in third party guides, yet both help if POP3 is pulling down more than you want. The usual advice still applies too: check your client is set to leave a copy on the server.

Seznam Email SMTP Settings#

Unencrypted ports are being withdrawn: Seznam help states that support for mail clients connecting over insecure ports is being ended progressively. That is a change in progress rather than one already complete, so an old plain text configuration may still be working today. It is on borrowed time. Move to 993, 995 and 465 with SSL now, while it is a five minute job rather than an emergency.

Working today is not the same as safe.

SMTP carries outgoing mail. Seznam asks specifically that the server requires authentication option is ticked. Leaving it off is the classic cause of a mailbox that receives perfectly and refuses to send.

How Confident We Are About This One

The server values on this page come from Seznam own help. Hosts, ports and the authentication requirement are all documented by the provider.
The two-step verification rule does not. It comes from a Czech guide rather than from Seznam pages we retrieved, so we are presenting it as reported rather than confirmed.
What that means for you. If two-step verification is off, use your ordinary password and expect it to work. If it is on and your client is refused, a separate password for mail programs is the thing to look for in your account settings.
Why we are saying this out loud. A page that presents everything with equal confidence gives you no way to tell which parts to trust more. These are not equally certain, so we have said which is which.

Email Profi is the paid tier: Seznam sells a business version. Its help calls out specifically that Email Profi mailboxes need the full address in the username field. Unlike some services, the paid tier is not what unlocks IMAP here. Both tiers get every protocol, permanently.

Set Up Seznam Email in Email Clients#

Same hosts, same password, no access step in any of them. Only the menus change. Pick your app:

Outlook (Windows and Mac)

Within Outlook take File, then Add Account. Newer Outlook files this under Settings, then Accounts.
Enter your Seznam Email address, open Advanced options and check "Let me set up my account manually".
Choose IMAP and enter imap.seznam.cz on port 993 with SSL, then smtp.seznam.cz on port 465 with SSL.
Enter your Seznam password, then tick outgoing server authentication under More Settings. Seznam requires it.
Close by writing to your own address. One message tests sending and receiving together.

Apple Mail (macOS)

Starting in Apple Mail, take Settings, Accounts, Add Account.
Choose Other Mail Account. Apple carries no Seznam entry among its providers.
Enter your name, full address and Seznam password, then continue.
If hosts are requested, take them from the tables further up.
Leave Mail ticked among the listed services, then finish.

iPhone and iPad

Starting in iOS Settings, take Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts, Add Account.
Tap Other, then Add Mail Account. iOS has no Seznam option built in.
Enter your details using your Seznam password, then tap Next.
Stay with IMAP, supplying both host names when iOS asks.
Hit Save and let iOS run its check.

Android

Open the Android mail app you use and take Add account.
Pick Other, then IMAP, since Seznam is missing from the provider list.
Supply the full address and your Seznam password. If automatic setup falls short, move to Manual setup.
Enter the servers: imap.seznam.cz 993 SSL incoming, smtp.seznam.cz 465 SSL outgoing.
Finish the wizard, then drag the inbox down to sync.

Thunderbird

Starting in Thunderbird, take Account Settings, Account Actions, Add Mail Account.
Enter your name, full address and Seznam password, then select Continue.
Check what Thunderbird detected, confirming it chose encrypted ports rather than the plain ones being withdrawn.
If detection returns nothing, take Configure manually and enter the values.
Take Done. Folders arrive with the opening sync.

Seznam Email Webmail Settings#

Those values connect your apps. What follows shapes the mailbox itself. It lives in Seznam webmail rather than in any client.

Signature

Set from the webmail settings. It applies to messages sent in the browser. Outlook and other clients hold their own, so two versions can drift apart without anyone noticing.

Vacation Auto Reply

Give the away message a start and an end date so it stops without prompting. It runs on Seznam servers, so replies continue with your devices switched off.

Filters and Folders

Rules built in the browser run server side, filing mail before any device collects it. A rule inside Outlook fires only while Outlook is open, which is why two devices can disagree about where something went.

Spam and Blocked Senders

Block senders or whole domains from the same settings area. Check the spam folder in the browser first when mail goes missing, since a client side rule cannot retrieve what the server already filed.

Our verdict: IMAP, as usual. Seznam does make POP3 more tolerable than most by letting you restrict it per folder and fetch only unread mail, so if you have a reason to want POP3 you have better controls here than elsewhere. For a lasting offline copy a backup tool still beats either protocol.

Seznam Parameters Worth Knowing#

Seznam publishes parameters more readily than quotas. These are the points that shape a client setup:

Troubleshooting Seznam Email Connections#

Access is rarely the obstacle on Seznam, so most causes below are configuration. One exception is worth ruling out first.

Reader Reported Fixes

Assuming the settings page is irrelevant. Seznam describes its protocols as permanently active, which reads like an invitation to skip the settings page entirely. Czech guides still point to an Enable IMAP option at email.seznam.cz/settings#/remote. Since we could not establish which picture is current, the sensible move is to look rather than reason your way out of looking. Thirty seconds, either ruling something out or solving it.

Dropping the 3 from the POP3 host. Almost every provider uses pop. as the prefix, so pop.seznam.cz is what gets typed by habit. Seznam uses pop3.seznam.cz. The resulting error names the server rather than the typo, which sends people looking at their connection instead of their spelling.

Keeping a Copy of Your Seznam Mail#

Permanent access cuts both ways. Because Seznam never closes client access, a backup or migration tool can always reach the mailbox. That is convenient. It is also worth remembering that anything holding your password can reach it too. An old device you no longer use is worth a thought.

IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail kept on the server, holding inbox, folders and read marks in step. On Seznam it is always available.

POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.

SSL / TLS / STARTTLS

Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).

App Password

A generated code some services use in place of your real password inside an app. On Seznam this comes up only where two-step verification is switched on. Otherwise your ordinary password is what clients take.

OAuth

Signing in through a browser window rather than typing a password into the app. Several large providers have gone this way. Seznam has kept things simpler, with a plain password and no access gate.
