About Wix Mail#
Wix is a website builder founded in 2006 and based in Tel Aviv. Its business email is provided through Google Workspace, so your mailbox is a Google mailbox on your own domain.
Wix sells Google Workspace as Wix business email. That means the mailbox runs on Google. The servers are Google's own. You manage users in the Google Admin Console. The Gmail web interface and Gmail app are the day to day home for your mail.

Turn On IMAP First#
Google keeps IMAP off until you switch it on. Skip this and your app signs in but shows no folders. Turn it on once in Gmail and every app can then connect.
- Open Gmail on the web at gmail.com and sign in with your Wix business address.
- Open Settings from the gear icon, then choose See all settings.
- Go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP along the top tabs.
- Select Enable IMAP in the IMAP Access row.
- Save Changes at the bottom. Your apps can connect from here.
Wix IMAP Settings#
IMAP is the incoming protocol Google recommends. Your mail stays on Google, so each device opens the same inbox. Turn IMAP on in Gmail settings before you connect.

Signing In: Google or App Password#
Because Wix email is Google Workspace, your plain password does not work in a mail app. There are two ways in. Modern apps use Sign in with Google. Older apps use an app password. Your username is always your full email address.
Sign in with Google
The method Google prefers. Outlook 2019 and later, the new Outlook, Apple Mail and the Gmail app all support it. Add the account and pick Sign in with Google, then approve the consent screen.
No password is typed into the app. Google hands it a secure token instead.
App password
For older clients that cannot do the Google sign in. Turn on 2 Step Verification, then create a 16 character app password and paste it in place of your password.
Works with terminal clients, legacy devices and older Outlook builds.
Create an App Password
- Open your Google Account at myaccount.google.com and go to Security.
- Turn on 2 Step Verification if it is not already on. App passwords need it.
- Open App passwords under the sign in section and name the app.
- Copy the 16 character code and paste it as the password in your mail app.
Why Your App Stopped Working#
If Wix email worked in Outlook or Apple Mail and then stopped, this is almost always the reason. Google ended password only sign in for Workspace accounts. Your mail did not move. The way apps sign in changed.
What Google changed
- June 2024: the old less secure apps switch left the Admin Console, so it can no longer be turned back on.
- 2025: password only sign in stopped for Google Workspace. Apps have to use Sign in with Google or an app password from that point.
- 2 Step Verification: turning it on switches off password only access by itself, which is why an app that once worked can suddenly fail.
The clean fix
Remove the account, then add it back and choose Sign in with Google or the Google option. Outlook for Windows, the new Outlook, Apple Mail and iOS Mail all support it. This re adds the account over IMAP with OAuth.
If the app cannot do it
A terminal client or an older build with no Google sign in needs an app password. Turn on 2 Step Verification, create the 16 character code, then paste it in place of the password.
Set Up Wix in Email Clients#
The servers and ports are always the same. Only the menus differ. Jump to your app:
Outlook (Windows and Mac)
- In Outlook choose File then Add Account and type your Wix business address.
- Pick Sign in with Google when Outlook 2019 or later offers it, then approve the consent screen.
- For older Outlook, set it up manually with
imap.gmail.comon 993 SSL andsmtp.gmail.comon 587 STARTTLS. - Paste an app password in the manual path, since older Outlook cannot do the Google sign in.
- Email yourself a quick test to check mail flows both ways.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- In Mail open Settings and Accounts, then Add Account.
- Pick Google from the provider list so Apple Mail runs the Google sign in.
- Enter your Wix business address and approve the consent screen.
- Tick Mail in the app list to finish. Apple Mail fills the Google servers for you.
- Check the inbox loads once syncing starts.
iPhone and iPad
- In Settings go to Apps, then Mail. Open Mail Accounts to Add Account.
- Tap Google so iOS runs the Google sign in for your Wix address.
- Approve the consent screen to grant Mail access.
- Turn Mail on for the account. iOS fills the Google servers itself.
- Open Mail and let the inbox sync.
Android
- Open the Gmail app and tap Add another account.
- Choose Google, since a Wix business address is a Google account.
- Type your address and approve the sign in. The Gmail app handles the servers.
- For a non Gmail app, pick Other, then imap.gmail.com 993 SSL and smtp.gmail.com 587 STARTTLS with an app password.
- Wrap up and pull down once to bring in your mail.
Thunderbird
- In Thunderbird open Account Settings, use Account Actions and choose Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name and Wix address, then select Continue.
- Let Thunderbird use OAuth. It opens the Google sign in for you on recent versions.
- Approve the consent screen, with IMAP chosen and SSL on both servers.
- Select Done to finish the setup.
Wix Webmail Settings#
Server settings connect your apps. These settings control how the mailbox acts by itself. Because Wix email is Gmail, they live in Gmail settings or the Google Admin Console.
Signature
Open Gmail, then Settings and General for a signature. It shows on mail sent from Gmail. Outlook and other apps keep their own signature.
Vacation Auto Reply
Open Gmail, then Settings and the Vacation responder. Give it a start and end date so it clears on its own. Google sends the reply from the server, so your computer can be off.
Filters and Folders
Open Gmail, then Settings and Filters and Blocked Addresses. Rules held by Google file your mail before Outlook or your phone opens it. App rules act only while that app runs.
Spam and Blocked Senders
Google filters spam and phishing on incoming mail. Block a sender from the message menu in Gmail. An admin can set domain wide rules in the Google Admin Console.

Wix Sending and Storage Limits#
Google Workspace caps sending so one mailbox cannot flood the network. Know the rough limits before you bulk forward or migrate a mailbox:

Troubleshooting Wix Connections#
Find the exact error your email app shows, then apply the fix:

Reader Reported Fixes
Turn IMAP on before blaming the password. Readers who saw an empty account often had IMAP switched off in Gmail. Enabling it, then removing and re adding the account, brought every folder back. This is the top cause of a blank Wix mailbox in an app.
Use an app password on older Outlook. When an older Outlook build kept rejecting the login, a 16 character app password fixed it. Turn on 2 Step Verification first, generate the code, then paste it in place of the password.
Moving to or from Wix Email?#

IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol. Reads mail that stays on the server, so all your devices see the same inbox, folders and read status.
POP3
Post Office Protocol version 3. Downloads mail to 1 device and can remove it from the server. Older method, still useful for local archives.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Sends your outgoing mail. Every account needs it next to IMAP or POP3, which only receive.
SSL / TLS / STARTTLS
Encryption for the connection. SSL/TLS encrypts from the start (ports 993, 995, 465). STARTTLS upgrades a plain connection (port 587).
App Password
A 16 character Google code for apps that cannot do the Google sign in. It needs 2 Step Verification on and replaces your password in that one app.
Sign in with Google
Google OAuth. You approve access in a Google window and the app gets a secure token instead of your password. The method Google prefers.
Google Workspace
Google's business email and apps suite. Wix resells it as Wix business email, so your mailbox is a Google mailbox on your own domain.

2 Step Verification
A second check at sign in, usually a phone prompt or code. Google requires it before you can create an app password.
Google Admin Console
The dashboard at admin.google.com where an admin adds users, resets passwords and changes addresses for Wix business email.
Enable IMAP
A Gmail setting under Forwarding and POP/IMAP. It has to be on before any mail app can load your folders.

The outgoing server for any Google mailbox. Use port 587 with STARTTLS or 465 with SSL. Wix email sends through it.
OAuth 2.0
The token based sign in behind Sign in with Google. Since 2025 it is the required way for a mail app to reach a Google Workspace mailbox.

Google's old name for password only sign in. It was switched off for Workspace in 2025, so apps now need Google sign in or an app password.
